Time was when children played –

          imitating the real, world.

Now, sadly, too many adults(?) are

          childishly concerned about

                   an unreal world of play.

Have you ever seen an angel? [1]

Well, one just tripped by.

Her hair the color of harvested straw.

Her eyes?  The color of the sky.

She’s the littlest child with a Bryan name,

She lives with me and my sweet dame.

And this morning as I saw her,

Cheeks rosy in health,

I thought of the angels God made in His wealth.

And I don’t know how many angels God has,

I suppose a billion or three,

But I’m very glad He gave one to us,

To share, this side of eternity.

For Your Information!

Very recently a child was taken to the doctor in Indiana with some flu-like symptoms.  The doctor called it H1N1 without doing any blood work.  He told the mother (we’ve met her, know the grandparents well) “We’re calling all flu N1H1 now.”  What objectivity?

How convenient for “stats.” 

How convenient for governments, big pharmaceuticals, or others who want the public to think there is an “epidemic.”  

How convenient to call all flu “swine flu” and try to scare people into unnecessary vaccinations or approving a government “health care” change, both of which may damage you for life.

Samuel S Wesley Jr. died this date, 11/6/1739.  He was named for his father, Samuel S Wesley Sr., and was a brother of the famous revivalists John and Charles Wes­ley.  

Sam­u­el received his education at West­min­ster School and later at Christ Church, Ox­ford.  Samuel Jr. was one of the pro­mot­ers of an in­firm­a­ry at West­min­ster (1719).  He took the head mastership of Ti­ver­ton Free School (1732).  He had been born 2/10/1690 at London, England.

Are profound words spoken by God,

To a man on earth – still topside of sod.

Did God (Who knows all things),

Know something theologians do not?

Have theologians been self-deceived,

Satisfied without, what they have not sought?

Does God (Who has all power),

Have power to make one perfectly whole,

Whether he’s living in Timbuktu,

Or he’s living near either cold pole?

Doubt your theology rather than God’s Word.

Perfect motive is possible with the Lord.

The “Council of Constance” on this date, 11/5/1414, brought to trial two Bohemian men vitally interested in reforming religion as it then stood.  Evidently the “Council of Constance” was not interested in reform. 

They condemned John Huss (aka Jan Hus), a former dean of philosophical faculty and the author of On Simony,  On the Church.   This council also condemned his friend Jerome of Prague.  They even went so far as to anathematized the teachings of the great English thinker/minister, John Wycliffe. 

Huss was burned at stake the next year (1415) and they killed Jerome of Prague the year after that (1416).  Their “sins”?  What was called “heresy,” in reality outspoken appeals for church reform and (at least in Huss’ case) for seeking religious rights for the common people.
