Can you image a world without “ball”?   Baseball,   basketball,   dodge ball, football,   handball,   racket ball,   softball,   volleyball (all with last name “ball”) or bowling,   bowling-on-the-green,   cricket,   croquet,   golf, lacrosse,   marbles,   ping-pong,   pool,   rugby,   soccer,   tennis (all played with a ball) – yet the Bible has “ball” only once (Isa 22.18 – a negative connotation).

Translation Trouble – Psalm 12.6-7

AV “The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth purified seven times.  7. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”  

NIV And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times.  7. O LORD, you will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever.”

Look what the NIV does to verse 7. 

The mis-translators ignored “words”

(antecedent for “them”) and substituted

their own idea.  Where did they get the

“us…people” idea?  This appears to be

a purposeful ignoring of God’s promise

to preserve His Words.  They changed

His Words – for the poor readers of the

NIV God’s Words are not preserved.

Why did the NIV change God’s promise?
