Translation Trouble – Luk 4.8

AV “And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”

ASV – And Jesus answered and said unto him, ___________ It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and him only shalt thou serve.

 

 

“Get thee behind me satan” is completely

omitted by the ASV!   Why?   Is this to

accommodate the theory that Peter was

the “1st pope” and they do not want him

called satan?
