Nasturtium

While I pastored in Canada a dear friend, the late Bert Lasher took me across the street from his house and gave me a leaf off of a Nasturtium.  It was a whole new experience for me – I enjoy radishes in season (a relatively short season 😦  ) and found the leaf tasted like a mild radish.  This spring I went on the hunt for this flower with a round, thick edible, green leaf – I had forgotten its name.

Found it (more than one place, once I had the name), planted (& re-planted a few spots) and they came up. Last week we were able to travel to TN with Phillip, Heather and kiddos and I took along some Nasturtium leaves – they went perfectly with her chicken salad (home-made bun 🙂 ) sandwiches.

If you like radishes or a little peppering taste in your salad raise Nasturtium next year. They like poor soil (as I read) and need little attention including watering.  The blossoms  are also edible (sweet at first then peppery) but I’ve not eaten many.  Because, I read that the seed can be dried and ground up as pepper.  I want to try that also.

Orion in a hand-span.

Appreciate God?

Ah, now we’re thinking.

Every mind, great and small

Can appreciate Him, unshrinking.

His ministry took him to every state in the Union and to thirty other countries.  In 1926 he founded Bob Jones College (now BJU) originally in Florida, but after two moves it settled in Greenville, South Carolina.  He died in 1968.

Jones Quotes:

The acid test of our love for God is obedience to His Word.

Trust God as if it all depends upon Him, and work as if it all depends upon you.
