ON THIS DATE

Booker T Washington died 11/14/1915.  His mother was a slave, his father an unidentified white planter; Booker was born under slavery. He became educated, built up Tuskegee Institute and became the first black man invited to the White House.  He wrote several books but is best known for his Up From Slavery.

 

NOTE: now and then I see quotes said by bad/questionable characters.  Please do know a little about the person you quote.  W.E.B. Du Bois for example opposed Booker.  Dubois used his mouth while Booker poured his LIFE into helping the Negro.

 

Booker Quote:

Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way.

No greater injury can be done to any youth than to let him feel that because he belongs to this or that race he will be advanced in life regardless of his own merits or efforts.
