John Bunyan was born 11/28/1628, Elston, England. In 1650 he married a young woman, whose inheritance from her father was just two books; Arthur Dent‘s Plain Man’s Pathway to Heaven and Lewis Bayly‘s Practice of Piety, – these strongly influenced John toward Christ. Four years later he began to preach and was later arrested for preaching without a license from the established church. Later still he was imprisoned and remained in the Bedford Jail some 12 years.
Bunyan’s Godly pen produced Pilgrim’s Progress the 2nd most popular book for many decades. He also wrote Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners, The Life and Death of Mr. Badman, The Holy War and The Heavenly Footman. Bunyan died 8/31/1688.
