Edward Perronet died 1/2/1792 at Canterbury, Kent, England.  He was a Swiss-born Englishman descended from French Huguenots who fled the religious persecution on the continent.  

Perronet was a coworker of John and Charles Wesley for some time and John was always trying to get him to preach.  Any time John Wesley was present, Perronet felt Wesley should preach but John was not one to take “no” for an answer.  One day, in the middle of a meeting (it is said) he simply announced, “Brother Perronet will now speak.” Perronet stood before the large crowd and declared, “I will now deliver the greatest sermon ever preached on earth” (you can imagine he got everyone’s attention).  He then read the Sermon on the Mount and sat down.

Perronet penned:

All hail the power of Jesus’ name! Let angels prostrate fall;

Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all.
