Once upon a time, in story-book tales
Boy meets girl and love prevails.

ON THIS DATE
Martin Luther died 2/18/1546. The great Reformer was born 11/10/1483. Once a devout (more devout than some of them saw necessary) Romanist he eventually left the system. His list of accomplishments is too long for a post but includes giving the Germans the Bible in the vernacular (based on Erasmus’ Textus Receptus like the beautiful AV a.k.a. KJV), books On the Bondage of the Will 1525, On the Papacy at Rome, Founded by the Devil 1545, & 30+ hymns including the brilliant, “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.”
“A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” is historically connected to a revival in Moravia. Jesuits opposed the awakening, meetings were prohibited. Some came anyway, were seized and imprisoned in stables and cellars by the catholics. About 150 souls were in David Nitschmann’s home when police broke in & stole songbooks. The brave congregation struck up stanzas of Luther’s “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.” Nitschmann was imprisoned, escaped, & eventually joined the Wesley.
“And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure, One little word shall fell him.”
