Be concerned, even radiant,
About cause “A” or “B” or “Q”
If the cause is of real worth,
If the cause is true.
But never let a minor cause
Partially or fully heist,
The greatest Cause of all
The “Cause” of Jesus Christ.

ON THIS DATE
Ralph Erskine Hudson died 6/14/1901 at Cleveland, OH. He was born to Henry & Sarah Hudson on 7/12/1843, in the city of Napoleon, OH (up the Maumee River, south-west of Toledo). While he was still a boy they moved to PA & while he was a youth he served as a nurse in the uncivil war. He married a young lady named Mary (date & locale of union unknown to eab) & they were blessed with 6 children.
He returned to OH & from 1872-74 was Professor of Vocal Music at Mount Union College (started out as Mount Union Seminary, with Methodist connections – now called a University). For the next ¼ of the century he made the Mt. Union-Alliance area home, where he was an early supporter of the Salvation Army. Ralph was a “lay preacher,” opposed the liquor traffic, was a member of the Mt. Union Methodist Episcopal Church, & serviced as a trustee of Taylor University, Upland, IN.
He is remember today as a writer of Gospel Songs, having written both words & music to “A Glorious Church” & “His Yoke Is Easy,” the words to “I’ll Live For Him” (& some 50 others), & the music to “Blessèd be the Name!” “The Half Has Never Yet Been Told” & “Satisfied” (All my life long I had panted).
Do you hear them coming, brother, Thronging up the steeps of light,
Clad in glorious shining garments, Blood washed, garments pure and white?
Refrain
’Tis a glorious church without spot or wrinkle, Washed in the blood of the Lamb;
’Tis a glorious church without spot or wrinkle, Washed in the blood of the Lamb.
