to be called “Pentecostal,” for the marvel and miracle of Pentecost

God, the Master of all master artists, combines the right color of hair

with the right color complexion, & the right eyes.

ON THIS DATE

Eliza E Hewitt was born 6/28/1851, at Philadelphia, PA.  She was born the second child to James Stratton Hewitt, a sea captain, & Zeruiah Edmunds Hewitt.  She was a cousin to the poet Edgar Page Stites & a personal friend with Fanny Crosby.

She was a public school teacher who developed serious spinal trouble possibly due to a undisciplined boy hitting her in the back with a slate.  This illness/disease forced her to quit teaching & in fact confined her to her bed.  But from there she wrote Sunday school material.  And she became the Sunday School superintendent for the Northern Home for Friendless Children and later at served in the same position in a Presbyterian Church.  She died on 4/24/1920.

Hewitt is remembered today as the author of “There Is Sunshine in My Soul Today” “Stepping in the Light” “Will There Be Any Stars?” “’More About Jesus I Would Know” “Give Me Thy Heart” and “When We All Get to Heaven” though she penned some seventeen hundred (that is right 1700) other songs.

I trust the ever living One, His wounds for me shall plead.

Refrain

I need no other argument, I need no other plea,

It is enough that Jesus died, And that He died for me.
