PRAYER

It’s easy to be modern

When you live in a modern day,

To let the old slip from you

To let it slide far away.

All that’s “progress” is not progress;

All was not bad in yesterday.

How we need a fresh revival

Oh, how we need again to pray.

The grand old Book has been replaced

By religious movies and plays.

Great revivals were not products

Of “seminars” nor picnic days!

Praying has a way of making

A small canoe into a barge.

And also shrinking those “big” things

Till they aren’t quite as large.

Young People – God can lead you too

* Young People – God will lead you, if you want Him to. *

Moving through my 40s & 50s I had no preconceived idea of what age for retirement. In my 6^th pastoral year at Westfield I became aware they’d never had a pastor this age (might be ready for a younger man) & seriously sought the Lord about the future. On 3/5/13 while reading Jer 4 words in verse 6 stood out, “…retire, stay not…” (When counting up later, this was at least the 22^nd time I’d read Jer 4.) As I re-read it in my devotions this AM, I was naturally reminded of God’s wonderful guidance. To God’s glory, I can say I’ve had His leadership in every move/position since college. (Yes, long-term-friends, even when you shook your heads. 🙂 ) But never was His direction (3/5/13) more clear.

* Younger reader, I’m no one special; you ALSO can have His holy leadings. *
