*Past Poems Celebrating the Birth of Christ*

Why, Pray Tell All The Assignments?

Is there no end?   Test after TEST!

(Don’t tell me “Matching” is in the Book.)

Place “Q” with “two” and “R” with nine?

Is this instruction at its best?

Or, should someone, take another look?

2

“False”- right??? (Seems an unchristian line!)

“True” at times wrong? Truthfully wrong?

If “true” answers are incorrect,

And “false” answers are thought just fine,

My next test should be an easy song.

3

Testing styles you would now collect?

God gave King David “Multiple Choice”

Take “famine” “pestilence” or “flee.”*

He didn’t take long to reflect.

The Psalmist knew he could trust God’s voice.

 4

Tests. Tests. Add “short-blanks” to these three

“Fifty or more questions?” “Come, Be real!”

“And find answers in assignments.”

Tests. Tests. What a pain tests can be.

Yet come they do, spring and fall — with zeal.

5

Papers; MLA refinements.

Notebooks are due on such-an-such date.

Reading grades; books go hand-in-glove.

Oh, what pre-Christmas confinements.

Don’t, what e’er you do, DO NOT be late.

6

A student said “all the above”?

No. A teacher struggling for best ways

To help youth recall “verse” and “phrase,”

(To acquire truth in college days.)

Doing the labor of Christian love.   *2Sa 24.12

Inspired Writing

Jer 36. 17 – 18

“And they asked Baruch, saying, ‘Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?’

“Then Baruch answered them, ‘He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.’”

“Discipleship without Jesus Christ is a way of our own choosing.

It may be the ideal way. It may even lead to martyrdom but it is devoid of all promise.

Jesus will certainly reject it.”

– Dietrich Bonhoeffer, from his COST OF DISCIPLESHIP

Dad vs FATHER

My wife and I were able to buy (cash), a fixer-upper in 2013. A number of times I’ve prayed “on the run” or stopped and prayed for wisdom. My dad was a handyman but I couldn’t ask him – he’s been gone 40 yrs this month. A few hours ago (as I again asked for God’s help) I made the connection. He is my Father and He (much wiser than dad and Who lives forever) has helped many-a-man, many-a-woman fix up their houses, i.e. He assisted them in soul repairs. I’m thankful for Dad but even more so for my Father.

Every man and woman in every altitude and clime

Is invited heavenward at some point in their life time.

God wants them to come live with Him, be with Him forever.

But His invite centers on human will – not some lever.

We must have a change of heart to thus want to be with God

He provides this also – – – conversion while on this ole sod

Thus God is happy and we’re happy as we Him obey

Yield my Friend, accept His RSVP invite today.

When you and Bro X come down on opposite sides of an issue

– what DO you do? You’re no “slouch,” you’ve done the homework, you’ve thought this through; he’s wrong. He may be. We never see an issue through another’s eyes. We can’t. God’s so arranged personalities that we each are the center of our world – we look right/left, before/behind from OUR prospective. It’ll help to remember he does the same. An older lawyer told me yrs ago, “You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.” Be holy even in disagreement. If he’s truly a Brother in Christ you may be able to discuss “said issue” on heaven’s bright shore (if it’s remembered there 🙂 ).

Love him, mistaken head and all 😦  and keep a heart warm toward him.
