*Past Poems Celebrating the Birth of Christ*

MADE IN HIS IMAGE INCLUDES ETERNITY

The vast Lord of glory in Eden’s prime story

Decided a wonderful plan.

Make sun for a light, and make stars; yearly insight,

And end with a creature named man.

2

He’s God, undefined. He has wisdom un-mined.

He’s dependent on nobody’s whim.

So, how He made Adam (and his rightful madam)

Was totally “OK’d” by Him.

3

That marvelous King, that majestic, Sole Being,

Invested a portion of God;

His image, His likeness, He opened in kindness;

Example for men made of sod.

Some weak, lowly creatures imagine God’s features

To really include hand or pate.

Far greater expressions include “love” and “truthhood”

Ability “to think,” “create.”

5

Not least in “the acre” man shares with his Maker

Is life ever-lasting for saints.

Invited is mankind, Eternal grace to find

With all of the rest the Word paints.

6

Before man’s sad failure Christ’s death bought a sure cure

Eternity’s next “half” is man’s!

This Christmas rejoice much His coming thus brought   such

Fulfillment. His “image” still stands.

“Genuine prayer is never “good works,”

an exercise, or a pious attitude, but it is

always the prayer of a child to a Father.”

– Dietrich Bonhoeffer, from his COST OF DISCIPLESHIP

You’re a new husband (or plan to be), want a Christian Home, and are uncertain how to proceed. Be honest with your new wife, let her know your desire, and the two of you decide some “W” words. What will make up Family Altar (Scripture & prayer or these plus a song, or all plus memorization, etc.) Where to have it; it amounts to a worship service. When to hold it (my wife and I have had FA at night for yrs – when the children were home, we read around the circle). Who is to lead is decided by Scripture, you. That leaves Why. FA has more than one value but try to keep worship uppermost, try to exult Christ.

RUTH

RUTH [Simplified Book, in 5 lines]

“There’s bread in Judah” it was said,

(Elimelech and sons were dead).

Naomi and Ruth made their way

Back; soon there was a wedding day;

David’s line began with Obed.

You’re an unmarried lady dreaming of a Christian Home.

With the exception (thank God for every one) of those saved after marriage, a Christian Home starts with Christian man. (Never say I’ll change him later.) Watch for signs that he’s 100% committed to Christ. You want a man who loves you, but loves God more. 1.) On a date does he offer prayer at the beginning? (If he does say a soft, sincere “Amen” as he closes.) 2.) Where does he want to go? (His idea of entertainment, where to go to church, what he thinks is “fun” is a direct window into his soul – and should please or alarm you.) 3.) What ideas about God, life, the Bible does he talk about? 4.) Don’t “tell him everything you know” (scare him away with “dream”) but be honest in what you say. Be committed to God’s will. He knows who’s right for you in the long run,

– A concerned Gramp with several unmarried granddaughters. 12/11/16
