Usury = interest

Psa 15. 1 and 5

“LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy holy hill? . . .

“He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.”

C S Lewis quote

“All these people told us not to lend money at interest: and lending money at interest – what we call investment – is the basis of our whole system…I should not have been honest if I had not told you that three great civilizations had agreed…in condemning the very thing on which we have based our whole life…There is one bit of advice given us by the ancient heathen Greeks and by the Jews in the Old Testament and by the great Christian teachers of the Middle Ages which the modern economic system has completely disobeyed.”

that old dragon

The devil is “god” of this world (2Co 4.4) and strives to keep your attention here. He’s also “…the prince of the power of the air…” so doesn’t mind if you dream of “space ships” alien sightings, martian colonies, etc. but satan doesn’t want you thinking about the real heaven from which he was expulsed. (You see, you, through faith in Christ, can go there – that old dragon can never return. Praise God.)

GOD COULD

God could have made the world and walked;

Walked with, “Have a nice day.”

He could be distant (instead of watching every instant)

Interested, but not too much “as such.”

God could be somewhere in the “air”

Without a fraction of His face

Without a glimpse of His grace;

There, but always “in His place” (and never near)

He could be the ultimate “Player” in hide-n-seek

Impossible to find unless He wanted to be found

But God, joyful contrast, wanted us to see

Wanted/wants us to sense His presence,

Ah, more than we do now,

So, in His interesting Book

He repeatedly shows us how.

Some people “live” in the future:

“wishing their life away” always hoping for a brighter tomorrow, even believing in sci-fi films. People in hell must exist in the past: constantly reviewing the sins that took them there, re-living their sad memories and huge regrets. Heaven’s happy inhabitants truly LIVE in the “present” ah, forever in their glorious present, made possible by God’s Divine Presence.
