A law-unto-herself

A pastor’s wife (if she’s not careful) can pretty well be a law-unto-herself. Her husband will likely not preach against what she does or how she dresses unless he is a strong (and hopefully Godly) man. And strong, Godly, pastors are on the endangered-men-list. 😦

SINGLE TREE

The clearing held but one lone tree

Somewhat centered it seemed to be

Its nearest neighbor was yards away

Inside the forest’s safe domestic sway.

You might think the tree lonesome

But actually more people come

And sit under that one out there alone

Than any tree in the wooded-comfort-zone.

So, don’t pine away for that lonely pine

Or any single tree of some other kind.

Their isolation makes them stand out

They’re different, of that there’s no doubt

And though tree-neighbors are not near

For it there’s no need to shed a tear

He has human visitors others would like

Were they not lined behind the forest dike.

Every Dad is a teacher

Teaching has two parts: one is giving, one is receiving.

It could be argued that one can’t teach a person who doesn’t want to be taught. But you may learn by observing the person who refused to teach you or who wouldn’t call himself a “teacher.” Neither of the last two are ideal. The best scenario is when one loves to teach (without being a show-off) and the other loves to learn. Every Dad is a teacher; every Mom is a teacher (some for good, some for no good). In like manner every pastor is a teacher; every boss is a teacher. [Said after spending 21 yrs in teaching/administrating and 32 yrs (some overlap) as pastor/assoc. pastor.]
