Serious stuff

Paul wrote interesting and spiritually profitable chapters; in Philippines (2.12c) he penned intriguing words “…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” To some determined to “do their own thing” the first words jump off the page. “WOW!” “Love it.” If we’re not careful we’ll be running off to do just that. But the third from last and last words are equally important. We only have one opportunity to prepare for heaven – there’s no purgatory, there are no second chances. If we do things right we’ll some day be ultra-delighted that we Now had “Fear” and had “Trembling.” Serious stuff, Friends, serious stuff!

JESUS FORGAVE

The greatest saint you presently know,

Is not now reaping what they did sow.

– Their Lord interrupted that yield.

They before, sowed seeds of outward sin

Mean tricks, harmful to nature and men.

– Jesus forgave; uprooted the field.

       “Praise the Lord!”

Social sports

Someone: parent, uncle, grandparent (many times prior to school age)

introduced you to the “thrill” of a social sport. You grew up with it on a radio or TV and thought little about it. Stop. Realize that there’s an artificial “excitement” there. What difference does it really make whether the ball is at this end to the other? Now while you’re stopped, look at the drinking, four-letter language, betting, immodesty, boisterous talk, flirtations.

Is this where you want your obituary to say you were when you died?  Think about it.
