Science fiction as a serious (oxymoron?)

space-expanding genre is less than 90 years old. Some would Jules Verne, Mary Shelley, Jonathan Swift in sci-fi. Perhaps the oldest sci-fi penman is Johannes Kepler. His Somniun (novel) defended and explored his concept of astronomy. (Both Carl Sagan and Isaac Asimov considered it the first science fiction work.) Can modern man separate “science fact” from “science fiction”? He seems to be having trouble due to first, “sci-fi books,” followed by a plethora of sci-fi films.

Maybe there is a purposeful overlap and maybe they are not that far apart.
