Single guys –

she may be cute. Is she kind? She may be attractive in face or form. Does she have a pleasing personality? She may come from good “roots” but has she determined that SHE will be all God’s, at any cost? Looks/bodies/hair tend toward decreased attractiveness. Hopefully kindness and a loving personality, as she walks with Christ, will increase. And if/when God grants you children, her love for Jesus and her pleasantness you may see reflected in one or more of them. [Gals, read this opposite for you, please.]

Time Well Spent

Being a dad is far more indeed,

Than the mere contribution of a small seed.

Hours, weeks, & years are needed to train a tree;

Not so, the weed.

Don’t spend your life removing dust,

It simply falls again.

Spend it – turning daughters into ladies,

And sons into stalwart men.

(“to be,” this season’s “crop,” or a groom for yrs.) – Want to make your bride happy and your marriage a success in God’s sight? Become/remain a devout follower of Jesus Christ and seek/find a holy heart. Human love can wear thin in the struggles/trials/disagreements of life. God has provided that you, groom, can have a pure heart. She’ll be a happier wife if you not only love her but if you love God MORE. [ Bride, read opposite for you, please.]

Mat 9. 13

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

“Our Father…”

As I tried to pray in the night my mind wanted to wander. I asked the Lord to forgive me for my mouth “mouthing” words but my brain seeking to run “rabbit trails.” After some struggle I started praying the Lord’s Prayer (Mat 6.9ff). “…Our Father…” was rich and comforting. And other parts, as I was able to bring my mind to His example prayer. Thank God for His help – I need His help even when I pray to Him.

Ante-Nicene Quote

“…you disbelieve everything that you may indulge your passions and that ye may believe in idols because you have a craving after their licentiousness but disbelieve God because you cannot bear a life of self-restraint.”

If you were raised to believe you must “sin everyday in thought, word, or deed” you probably have 1 of 2 reactions. 1.) You’re “sort-a-glad” that you can sin Or  2.) Deep-in-side you’re “kind-a-sad” that you have to sin. Friend, I can’t urge you too strongly; search the Scriptures and BE OPEN to what they teach. Christ didn’t leave heaven to “suffer” being a Man, then suffer the cruelty of His mock trial, and suffer His horrible death on the cross that we be “better” sinners. He died to make us saints, yet-in-this-life.

The water below me is “coffee, with cream.”

But the water out there is blue, it would seem.

Maybe beauty is not always in the eye;

Sometimes its a reflection of God’s perfect sky.

As a non-theater-goer I was unaware until recently of the HUGE, impact hollywood is having. A list showed the amount of money a few films grossed; some over $300,000,000. Millions paid cash to sit under purposefully planned wording and corrupt images of ungodly directors/writers. Goers thought they were being entertained (there’s little-to-no Biblical basis for “entertainment”) in reality, they left the movie with messages/images implanted in their minds. The fall of society is due more to “programming” than many shallow “christians” want to admit. Believers, do all you can to subtract hollywood out of your life.

“ ‘Purity of heart’ said the Puritans, ‘is to have all the wheels of the soul turning the same direction’.”

– Richard Taylor, Exploring Christian Holiness

2Ti 2. 22

“Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace,

with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”

A casual observer (not a saint) may not be able to tell the differences between being filled with the Spirit and being full of bottled “spirits” (Act 2). There evidently are similarities and Praise the Lord there are huge differences.

Ante-Nicene Quote

“…God made man a free [agent] from the beginning, possessing his own power, even as he does his own soul, to obey the behests of God voluntarily, and not by compulsion of God…And in man as well as angels, He placed the power of choice…”

The greatest thing possible in life is to connect with your Maker, to hunger to be like Him. By contrast, one of the most dangerous things in life is to convince yourself you’ve “achieved” that goal, are “locked in,” and can coast on into heaven.

Come, leave your night of toiling

On the boisterous “boiling”,

Of an open-faced sea.

Come, leave the laborious net,

And the fish you DID get

By simply obeying Me.

Come and dine; be ye filled

‘Tis your Master who has willed,

A meal for weary men.

Come now, and be refreshed,

Far more than you had guessed

Possible while in sin.

You’ve taken a new leadership position (pastor, missions, collegiate, etc). “Congratulations” – – – if you’re going to lead the group on the narrow way. (But if you’re more interested in “growth” than holiness, allow me to sadly withdraw the congratulations.) You have a small window of time in which to show if your tenure is moving toward more prayer and more separation from hollywood or, heaven forbid, merely copying a “business model” and being affiliated with the broad way. Allow me to urge you (as an man who’s spent 46 yrs pastoring/teaching & more yrs in observation) take the narrow way!

“You can no more grow sin out of the heart

than you can grow rotten out of an apple.”

– Howard Sweeten, from his book More Excellent Way

Act 15. 8 – 9

“…God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

“And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.”

Several weeks ago I planted 40-some Scarlet Runner Beans, my first time to try them. Put up a “trellis” of white pvc right next to the south end of our white bungalow. Every bean came up and most if not all (with some help J) found their way to and upward on one of the pipes or attending strings. Today as I started looking them over for insects I saw something red – it was not a “bug” but a bud. What a pleasant mid-July surprise. They are not called Scarlet Runners for nothing.

Words vs images

God made words. He made words possible for man to both hear and speak. (His “Let there be light” introduced the awesome concept of articulate speech.) He spoke words to man, had man write words for other men, and was/is The Word. Man, by serious contrast, is the maker of pictures. Paintings, drawings, photography, and movies are all man-made, therefore should be scrutinized very, v-e-r-y carefully.
