Luther Quote

“The law with its righteousness

is like a cloud without rain…”

Table Talk, p.136

Divorce #1 Mar 10.11-12 “And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife & marry another committeth adultery against her.” “And if a woman shall put away her husband & be married to another she committeth adultery.” Some think adultery is “A” having sex with “C” while still married to “B.” Christ links a 2nd “marriage” WITH adultery.* Please Friend, never believe some state/country’s divorce court can overrule what the Son of God said. * 1Co 6.9a –10 “…neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate…shall inherit the kingdom of God.” (emphasis-eab)

-eab, 9/9/17

Divorce #2 Are you considering marring a divorced man/woman? Have you bought their “story” of how awful their 1st mate was? Few if any divorces are TOTALLY one-sided. Even if the New Testament did not condemn re-marriage (when a mate is still living) why take a “used” man/woman? Wait on God’s choice – His choice is never, NEVER a divorced mate – He, in His will, can give you an untarnished lover/friend/life companion. And – – – if it’s not His will, “It is better to be an ‘old maid’ than to wish you were one.” – from my favorite high school teacher, Miss Reiss

PREACHERS

Some of the most varied creatures

Are those fellows we call preachers

They’re medium, up/down in size

Some are smart, others not so wise

Some younger, other men are old

Many are quiet, others are bold

Some have experiences they “must” share

Others are not inclined to “go there.”

All of them, if they’re worth their salt

Should preach against sin “to a fault”

Pray? Yes, pray as much as they preach

And live daily just what they teach!

– eab, 9/9/17

Divorce #3 Some allow a weakening of “marriage-is-for-life” from 1Co 7.15a, “But if the unbelieving depart let him depart a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases…” acting as though such could re-marry. Please, eternity-bound friend, read earlier in the same chapter, v11 “But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.” And later in that chapter, v39 “The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.”

– eab, 9/9/17

Divorce #4 “Well, I’m still not convinced – is there another Scripture?” Please read Rom 7.2-3 “For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.” “So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.” These are posted because some pulpits ignore this topic and others appear to sanction divorce/remarriage.

“. . .Whom shall I wed? A daughter of the King

or a child of the world? . . . choose well!

Your choice is brief yet endless.”

– Andrew W Blackwood, Preaching From the Bible

Heb 13. 4

“Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled:

but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”

Christian education &/or home schooling can be wonderful. But they can be dangerous if we depend on them & forget the all-important-family-altar & the necessity for parents being consistent.
