Luther Quote

“War is one of the greatest plagues that can afflict humanity; it destroys religion, it destroys states, it destroys families. Any scourge, in fact, is preferable to it.”

Table Talk, p.332

“It’s not a perfect world…” or “In a perfect world…” are 2 expressions showing men actually DO believe in, and WANT to believe in perfection. Some churches and theologians don’t want you to believe man can be perfect, but Christ said, “Be ye therefore perfect…” (Mat 5.48).

Men have gone into wild regions,

Gone where it is mainly cold,

Worked their claim day by dull day,

Seeking elusive, yellow gold.

Christian, daily search the Bible,

Seeking nuggets in your youth,

Work “your claim” in middle age,

In old age, seek still, holy truth.

Not all can preach. Not all can teach. Not all can sing. Not all can give. Not all have other “talents” used in/around God’s houses of worship. But ALL CAN PRAY! Being a pray-er is open to young and old, the popular and those not, the well-known and the unknown. ALL CAN PRAY!

“In the sense of uneasiness a holy man may chafe when a preacher is attempting to make a display of his own wisdom instead of the cross of Christ.”

– H A Baldwin, from his HOLINESS & the HUMAN ELEMENT

Sinners seem to love “news”: the sad, bad news about wars, sins done, crimes committed, adultery, and death. Saints love the Good News of Christ and of His now and forever Kingdom. Which news rivets your attention?

Mar 10. 11

“And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.”

Someone asked, “Do you live to eat – or eat to live?” Most of us are probably somewhere in the middle. (In all honesty I enjoy a good potato salad, well-seasoned soupy soup on a winter day, a charcoaled hamburger.) Do you live to pray – or pray to live? O, God would help us to enjoy our prayer times as much as our meal times. Amen? Ouch?
