In August of nineteen seventy-two

A new school started for you, and you.

In northern Ohio (fairest of states)

With textbooks, paper, and pencils, brand new,

(Erasers soon showed a trillion mistakes.)

That building remade with paint and a brush,

At eight-thirty (What?) stilled to a meek hush.

Green, young students (the intelligent sort)

Closed the gap from May with such a mad rush,

They couldn’t receive an interim report.

Grammar and algebra, history and shop,

Quizzes and tests, there was no place to stop;

Bible and other classes taught the rule

To study, to read, to not be a flop,

Attending Wyandot Christian School.

Then came the fall outing (Remember that?)

A basketball game, the slim ‘gainst the fat.

Hot dogs were served (Yours were cold did you say?)

Three deep made some run. while others fell flat.

Cider, coco, and donuts (?) closed the day.

Tonight we are met in this banquet hall,

Behind lies the past, behind the quick fall,

Ahead lies the birthday of our Great Lord;

Vacation time, snow time, gift time and all,

May you be blest with all heaven’s accord.

May you be – Oh, I forget to mention,

Miss Knaul, in the hall and noon’s detention,

A trio girl who visits the jury,

Jogging, Perkins, a raccoon’s dissection.

Good-bye. We’ll see you in seventy three. – eab, Dec. 1972

LIFE #1 Do I detect increased acceptance of suicide? In evangelical circles? Even holiness circles? If so, why? We all know God will place in heaven whom He will. If a deranged person killed himself God will handle it correctly but it’s not for us to insist he went up. If a person is considering suicide & sees/hears that a man they respect believes suicides may go to heaven, he may kill himself & “wake up” in hell. Let’s leave where a suicide IS up to God, & correctly oppose it, so fewer are damned. Suicide is a curse.

God gave and gave and still He gives

(I’d guess you’ve wondered why!).

He gave Himself in Eden’s glen,

He gave His Son Who died for men,

(His death sin’s debt did satisfy.)

His Holy Guest came to us then.

LIFE #2 Am I witnessing increased agreement with (approaching “worship”) of the military? Among evangelicals? Holiness churches? Why? Do we not know the military kills people? Do we not agree that the majority of soldiers, on either side, are sinners? Do we acknowledge dead men either go to heaven or hell? It be pro-military is be pro-war. War populates hell. Stop supporting those who prematurely send a man to hell. War deaths are worse than abortion deaths, if you believe the unborn all go to heaven.

“That’s what sin is all about, taking God’s place.”

– Phillip Dickson, sermon, WCH, OH, 11/13/09

LIFE #3 A society that accepts suicide & military killings as “normal,” may well soon accept euthanasia. You may respond, “I’m not worried about euthanasia; I’m not old.” You’re getting there e-v-e-r-y-d-a-y. Sooner than you imagine you’ll be the age of dad & then, quickly, the age of gramp. Killing in aggressive war, in abortion on demand, & in “ridding society” of no-longer-useful adults, are more related than you perhaps acknowledge. All are wrong. God gives life – ONLY HE HAS THE RIGHT TO TAKE IT.

Mat 1. 18

“…When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.”

LIFE #4 Many readers won’t agree with #1, 2, or 3 – my “Crying in the Wildernet.” Here’s hoping you’ll THINK. Don’t blindly follow culture – follow the NT. No apostle in the NT, after Pentecost, has a sword in his hand. (Earlier Peter welds one & Jesus, about to be killed by this very crowd, replaces Malchus’ right ear.) To be a follower of Christ is to be different from man’s sinful culture. Are you willing?
