Which ? + + + +

Dad, do you like to work? (Work can vary from mental labor to manual labor but it is Your work.) If you really enjoy working, have your son work with you. Let him hear you “whistle” while you work, Let him see the pleasure you feel at a job done & done well. Do not just show him how to handle a tool, where to/how to stand/sit as he learns the task, teach him to enjoy working. Besides being a Christian, nothing better can be said about your son than “He’s a good worker.” That, Dad, is up to you. Amen?

– eab, 1/19/18

WHICH?

The great God above,

Where all beings have love,

May welcome you home with a smile.

Or the god of doom,

Where flowers ne’er bloom,

May “welcome” you below, after-while.

– eab, 1/31/06

Your greatest possession is not your house, though the biggest in the area. Your greatest possession is not a car in the driveway, though it’s a late model. Your greatest “possession” is not the wonderful wife/husband at your house, though I hope you love them above all humans. Your greatest possession is your soul. House, vehicle, even mate stay on earth when your soul sours J (or plunges L) to eternity. Are you ready?

– eab, 1/24/18

“Man’s highest freedom is in being a servant of God.”

– George Shaw, /Spirit in Redemption/

Advertisers, salesmen, greedy men/companies who want you to be materialistic, do /not/ want you to be content. But, you see, they do not control the “Content Button” in your life. You do. J

– eab, 1/31/18

Mat 25.23

“Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things,

I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

What would it take to make you content? (It could be a maturing moment to truthfully answer this question.) Does your answer have a dollar sign attached? None of us can adequately do this, but try – TRY to project yourself ¼ to ½ a century into the future – What will it take to make you content *then*?

Trainer + + + +

Your walk to heaven has enemies. Your fight to win spiritual battles has enemies. I hope you understand that. Even better, I hope you have identified one (or more) of these foes of your soul. Do not help satan by being spiritually lazy. Help God to help you, by being spiritually vigilant. Today, tomorrow, till the day you die. Don’t go to perdition.

– eab, 1/19/18

TRAINER

The man who with voice, pen & ink

Tries to teach you how to think

Is not an entertainer.

Better; he’s a trainer,

Training your mind & hopefully soul.

Thinking can led to being pure & whole.

1/25/18

*Chore* What chore does your son have to do every day? What chore do you daily require of your daughter?  Chores are great training points. If your children doesn’t have chores, it is to their good to give them 1, 2, or 3. Teach them (patiently J) how to do it & do it right. Find the best time of day for them and the chore that needs completed & insist that it be done. They will feel good about doing their duty, helping Momsy & Popsy, & will be learning a valuable lesson for living & life.

“A sermon is no sermon in which I can not hear the heart beat.”

– Longfellow, quoted by George Shaw, /Spirit in Redemption/

We are in the world – there’s no choice about that. We do not /have to be/ OF the world. We can be separate.  Some say (by actions, if not words) that we have to be of the world. Millions have “died out” the world & its opinions & then, dying in the faith, went higher. If we “go with the flow” of the world we won’t go higher but sadly much lower on death day. Leave the false glitter of the world now, Friend, now!  – eab, 1/29/18

1Th 4.14

“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again,

even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.”

The devil is male. His diabolical helpers (fallen angels) are male. (Whoever worships “gods” or idols is really worshipping devils, Deu 32.17 & 1Co 10.19-20). Those who think they worship a goddess (female) are actually adoring a devil (male). It is surprised that the first “male” (devil) to appear as a “female” (goddess) is a devil.

Blind + + + +

*Life, death* We live in a world of life & death. We embrace the one – abhor the other. Abhor it or not, we live facing death, everyday walking towards its final door. Death is the end of life – or – is it? Beyond death is Life for the saint, life everlasting, life which has no death, at the end. But beyond death for the sinner is a second death (Rev 2.11ff), a death, if you’ll allow the idea, without life, ever. *Now*, we have a glimpse of each – do we want Life or do we want death?

1/20/18

BLIND?

‘Twould be sad to awaken blind

And suddenly to realize,

You had no use of any kind

For your two, now sightless eyes.

The dilemma would be more sad,

If looking back in your new “night,”

You remembered, you never had

Thanked God for His gift of sight.

– eab, 1/28/18

Want to become a Prayer? A.) The job is open to male or female. B.) It has no minimum age or maximum. C.) Being a Prayer requires no degree – nor schooling period. D.) “Application blank” doesn’t ask that you “have a year’s experience.”

“I’m not suggesting it’s always easy to forgive –

it’s always necessary to forgive.”

– Noel Scott, sermon 3/6/08

Parents – you have no better advisor than God, the Father. A.) He is the original Father. B.) He is the oldest Father. C.) Is the most loving Father. D.) Is the Father Who is always right. Looking another way, God the Son, A.) Understands Son-ship like no other. B.) Has a co-equal, yet in subjection relationship with the Father. C.) Always gets along perfectly with His Father. And God the Spirit is ever present to give both you & your child leadership.

– eab, 1/28/18

Mat 6.15

“But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

*Carnal or Not?* When buying fine china hold the base with fingertips of one hand & slightly flip the upper edge with a finger nail of the other. You should hear a high-pitched “ping.” If the cup/bowl/pitcher is cracked you’ll hear a dull, less interesting sound – set it down & walk away. When the world taps (or even slaps) a holy person there’s a true “ring.” But if carnality’s present there’s a difference /they-can-hear/. (I bought/sold a few antiques yrs ago – 1st business card was “Heritage Antiques & Accents” on what Cincy folks later knew as “Hamburger Alley.”

Collect Truth + + + +

Parents be careful; do not to say something you don’t mean. Some of Johnny/Jane’s actions are “no brainers;” Stand firm. If the situation is new, think before taking a stand (neither you nor a child needs a “knee-jerk” reaction.) but once settled: Stand firm. If you, Dad/Mom give in & your child wins, he may think he can do that with God. You may be helping him head toward hell.

– eab, 1/21/18

Collect Truth

Some collect things that are free,

They fell from the sky,

They fell from a tree,

They were found by the sea.

Others invest in what they collect

Truth. Buy it. Collect it. Never it neglect.

– eab, January 2015

PLEASE “PLEASE”

Going to heaven may seem hard for

The one struggling to “cross all the tees;”

But it’s easier for those who

Simply want Christ to please.

– eab, 1/27/15

Prayer does not require certain body positions. Prayer does not need any money. Prayer does not have to be at specified hours. Prayer does not require a chapel or church. Prayer doesn’t even need words or syntax. And, you couldn’t ask for Anyone easier to talk to, when you’re sincere.

– eab, 1/27/18

“…Let me say most emphatically, every soul that enters this experience [heart purity] will have its wilderness…”

– C W Ruth, fr. his /Bible Readings/

One Book /One alone/ should control your life! As a Baptist, you may respect Bro Charles (Spurgeon), as a Lutheran, you may respect Bro Martin, as a Wesleyan, you may respect Bro John, but none of their writings, however good you judge them, are inspired. Let every book be a d-i-s-t-a-n-t second to The Book!

Gen 1.6

“And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and

let it divide the waters from the waters.”

It’s not gossiping to tell God anything you want – if you told me some things it’d be gossip – but not God. Tell Him everything on your mind, provided no humans are listening. It doesn’t have to sound profound. It doesn’t have to make sense – He can read your intent. After you’ve talked, stop & listen. He may want to speak words to you. He did you the courtesy of listening – you owe Him more than equal courtesy. Listen – – – & say, “Yes, Sir.”

*Entertainment* Let me be frank, I don’t understand the “need” for so much entertainment. Relaxation? I understand resting/change of pace. I don’t understand paying “big buck$,” traveling a bunch of miles, fighting for a parking spot, sitting (rain or comfort) to watch some guys do this-or-that, stumbling back to a car, creeping from crammed parking lot, driving a jammed 4-lane & getting less sleep. What good did it do? “It’s family-time.” Is this what you want your family to cherish? Life is more than entertainment!

– eab, 1/20/18

WAY, TRUTH,  LIFE

Jesus is the Way

This applies to our everyday

Up hill and down

Mid smiles, the occasional frown.

Always take His Way.

Jesus is the Truth

Applies to you and Moabitish Ruth

Across millennia and tired miles

In spite of lying “bits” and files

Let Him be your Truth.

Jesus is Life

Applies beyond present struggles and strife

Be brave

There IS life beyond the grave

True for Adam, true for you

Live His Life.

* DD or DD* Discipline, Denial, Devotion, Delight: do the 1st two or 2nd two, describe your relationship with God? A born-again soul, maturing in the faith, experiences discipline & denial. (A legalist can have both & “glory” in them.) They can attract the attention/admiration, of those seeking to “work their way” to heaven. (Working your way to heaven never, repeat /never/ works.) But the soul given to Devotion, to simply adoring the Lover of his soul, & who Delights in His presence, is the happier, more holy soul.

“Holiness seed never rots. Plant it and it will grow.”

How open are you to Truth? Honestly? Or (somewhat reverse) How open are you to the idea that you’ve been lied to? “Who would want to lie to me?” That group/org that wants to make $ off of your ignorance. That group/org that wants to hide God from you.  Or that group/org that wants you to follow them into false worship.

God Himself is Light (1Jo 1.5b), He made the organs of Light: sun, moon, stars, & He said, “Ye are the Light of the world” (Mat 5.14). Have the impression that Light is important to the Father? You’re Old + + +

Sinners are born blind. Being redeemed gives wonderful sight. To backslide is comparable to you placing a blindfold over your eyes. To apostatize is to gouge out your own eyes. God may, repeat /may/ allow a backslider mercy & he be able to remove his blindfold. The one who gouges out his eyes never sees again.

– eab, 1/21/18

You’re Old?

You’re old? “It’s in your head,”

Methuselah might have said,

Who lived nine centuries, sixty-nine.

Your age is a fraction of that line.

His age, though quite large to us,

Was neither a minus nor a plus

To God, our illustrious Ancient of Days,

Who’s lived forever, yet is young – always.

– eab, Jan. 2013

Now & then I see on social media a quote by Tozer (wish I’ heard him), Ravenhill (got to hear & meet him) or Wiersbe (got to meet & hear him) & I appreciate these. I see only a few quotes by holiness preachers: older Methodists, Nazarenes, Pilgrims, Salvationists, Wesleyan Methodists, etc. of early 1900’s. Is this because few men are reading Holiness Classics? Brothers, if you must read modern stuff, I beg, make every-other-book a meaty holiness one or about a holiness man. Read/underline. Read/pray. Read/quote.

Mat 20.27

*God or “science”* True science & its honest laborers glorify God & His word. False “science” & its collaborators seek to discredit God & His Word. Thinking parents are responsible to sort out which (science or “science”) is being presented to your child in text & film. This task is greatly enhanced when you daily study the Bible. Conversely, it is unmercifully muddled when your prime source is the state school, TV, & other liberal media.

*Doer, not a spectator* #1 Stop! Stop being a watcher of: TV, hollywood movies, “christian movies,” videos, church drama, funny home movies, etc. Become a Christian doer: a reader, a writer of prose, a poet, a gardener, a woodworker, a baker, a hunter, a builder, an artist, a musician, do animal husbandry – be a doer. Each could be blessings to relative, neighbor, stranger as you share product & “how-to” advice free.

– eab, 1/20/18

Lead to Worship

Men who feel quite adequate

To tell you which “i” to dot,

To tell you what you are to do – not;

Ought also to be able

To tell you how humbly to praise,

How in quietude and true gratitude

You should voice and hands raise.

We lack not for “liners up,”

And men who love that line,

We need men who will lead to worship

Men who live and love in the divine.

Oh, may the incense of my heart

Toward heaven daily depart!

– eab, Jan. 2007

*Doer not a spectator* #2 Stop seeking being satisfied with merely watching, even “clean” stuff. If the above (Doer… #1) is “so not you” become a different doer for Jesus. Go down-town & cook one day a week for a rescue mission. If cooking is not your thing, help serve meals to people as they come by. Maybe run their laundry 1 day a week. Or tell your pastor he can forget about the lawn – it’s now your “baby.”

– eab, 1/20/18

“[The] Holy Ghost will only honor testimony where He is extolled higher than the testifier.”

– Ken Rice, sermon 8/26/91

*Doer, not a spectator* #3 Stop having to be entertained by sights & sounds. Start being useful. Visit the nursing home. (Talk to head person, explain you’re a Christian & desire to help, so they know “who” you are.) Ask for a list of those no one visits. (Warning – do this slowly so you will come back next week, do not “bite off more than you can chew.”) Nursing homes are prohibitively expensive. Your simple act of volunteering could help their budget – – – And – – – give someone else the idea to do as you are doing.

– eab. 1/20/18

Gen 6.9

“…Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations and Noah walked with God.”

*Doer, not a spectator* #4 Stop spending so much time on yourself (not “bawling-out,” stating facts. J) Pray about becoming a “friend of sinners” at a jail. Do they have someone who offers a Bible study? See about teaching a Sunday School class, & no, it doesn’t have to be on a Lord’s Day. J Be prepared to pray with this one & that. Watch, though & don’t let the inmates “snow you.” This is one of the toughest places to volunteer but John Wesley would be happy you were there if he knew – – – & he might for all I know. J

Dad/Mom, do you collect children’s cell phones & leave them locked in car when you enter God’s house? “But their Bibles are on their phones.” Allow an older man to give advice – give them a hard copy of God’s Word & require them to carry the same to worship. Few youth will hear from The Almighty if they’re scrolling their phones. God deserves their undivided attention & you, Dad/mom, can help that happen. – eab, 1/18/18

LOVE YOUR DAYS

Thank you Lord for the Night:

To slow down and sleep,

To the home-fires keep

With Ewe and “little sheep.”

Thank you Lord for the Morn:

To throw-back, make the sheet

For breakfast to eat,

For shoes for the feet.

Thank you Lord for the Noon:

For strength to work till then

For work of hammer or pen,

For corn gathered in the bin.

Thank you Lord for the “Tardes:”

For warmth in winter’s sun,

For “game” from rod and gun,

For labor almost run.

Thank you Lord for the Even:

For the ceasing to roam,

For the walk toward home,

For the evening’s gloam.

And, if there is a time I’ve forgotten,

Please don’t think me “rotten,”

‘Cause I love life, and love all Your days

Broken up in hourly ways – all Praise!

How to memorize Scripture: You can read & re-read a verse/verse until engrained in your brain. You can read verses aloud on a tape & play back as you drive, work, mow, etc. You can write the verse out long-hand on line 1, again on line 2, etc until It is cemented in mind. You can cut index cards in ½ , place the verse on the lined side & its reference on the blank side & keep together with a rubber band. A stack of these is by my Bible now; worked on some this AM. “Thy Word have I hid…”

“The man whose little sermon is ‘repent’…will…be battered by the age whose moral tone he challenges. There is but one end for such a man—‘off with his head!’”

I hope you believe in being Redeemed from sins. I do. I hope you believe in have having the Holy Spirit purify your heart. I do. I hope that you understand that these 2 works of grace are the beginning of a life dedicated to God (& therefore one He controls, not you). Now allow the Spirit to lead you to higher heights, deeper depths of Biblical insight. Press on to a Rich prayer life which moves into a Richer one, until you maturity ushers you into God’s presence some day. Move on, Move up etc.

Blogging for Eternity: When started separateholy.wordpress.com (2008) I asked God that at least 6 souls be in heaven that wouldn’t have been there but for the blog: 1 from each inhabited continent. A Prayer + + + +

Music is powerful in many lives – in fact, there’ll be souls in hell who wouldn’t give up “Wally-wally-Bing-bang” (“musi-noise”). With some it was jazz. With others ‘twas show tunes. With some country/bluegrass, with still others it was dance/mood music. Believe it or not, some were so wrapped-up in “christian music” that God was not first place. Do you control your music or does your music control you?

– eab, 1/17/18

A PRAYER

Grant Lord that the lines I write

Alone, up, in the middle of the night

May find their way in your fine hour

To a needy soul snared in sin’s power

Let them see what satan tries to block

That Christ is the way, their defense, their rock

And hope is not gone, help is not lost

Redemption is free; Christ paid the huge cost.

– eab, Jan. 2016

If ever the holiness church needed discernment it’s now. If you have a degree of discernment, thank God. If you think you have none, ask God to give enough to protect you & those of church (if you’re a pastor), of family (if you’re a parent). Having suspicions about everybody isn’t discernment; taking everybody at face value isn’t either. When you have a “gut feeling” X isn’t “true blue” listen to that feeling. “But everybody thinks X is the greatest.” Do not broadcast the reservation you feel, be kind to them, but keep a distance.

“…get rid of the idea that faith is a matter of spiritual heroism…There are heroes of faith but faith is not for heroes. It is a matter of spiritual manhood. It is a matter of maturity.”

– P T Forsyth, quoted by Leonard Ravenhill

Parents, when you attend a convention, revival, camp, tell your children Who is scheduled to speak, give a brief bio & if possible have them shake hands with him before service. I probably heard T M Anderson, one of the greats of 20th century holiness speak – but, sadly, I can’t prove it. My parents drove to Circleville Camp, year after year. I found later that Bro. Anderson was a “fixture” there, summer after summer; I may have heard him – wish I knew. Parents, let your child know this is someone they’ll want to remember.

Luk 18. 8

“…When the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”

Ordinary collectors (antiques, books, cars, etc.) leave their collections this side the grave. You can do better – Collect Truth. Admittedly some earthly “truths” may remain here, but the Prime Truths will go with you to heaven, where He who is Truth (Joh 14.6), welcomes Truth, & where all lies are forever excluded.

Going + + + +

The wicked sinner has a bit of God-likeness in him i.e. A.) he’s an individual, B.) he’s creative, C.) he has a will. The redeemed soul is instantly more like God – so much so that he’s now a “child of God.” When God calls him on into holiness, God is inviting him to be even more like Him “Be ye holy” (1Pe 1.16). Thomas Chisholm penned, “Oh, to be like Thee, Oh, to be like Thee…”

– eab, 1/15/18

GOING

Given a few months, or a year or two,

(Hope you can handle a strong jar)

Strangers may wear your suits, not you;

Someone else may drive your car.

A new guy take your place on the job,

Someone else inhabit your fine house,

A neighbor eat your corn-on-the-cob,

And an old friend be married to your spouse.

“Stop! I can’t handle the stuff you say.

“Am I going, uh – – – uh, going far away?”

Didn’t you know, younger/older Friend?

Life for every woman & man comes to an end.

Repent and prepare now to leave earth’s abode.

“How?” Let Jesus have your heavy sin-load.

– eab, 1/17/18

“The antichrist is not going to say he’s the antichrist” – Steve Herron, c.‘67. Allow a related eab thought. A false prophet is not going to tell you he’s a false prophet. In fact, he’ll talk in part like a holy man, dress enough like one we’ll not be alarmed, & preach some shallow stuff (a cultist could’ve said it) that “sounds” good. Listen for details, Look carefully, Stop assuming. Christ prophesied they’d come. They have.

– eab, 1/16/18

“A sinning man will stop praying and a praying man will stop sinning.”

– Leonard Ravenhill, fr. his /Why Revival Tarries/

We receive impressions from our world via Hearing, Sight, Smell, Taste, & Touch. These important “gates” (I’m grateful for each) allow senses in. They’re one-way – entry only. There’s one more important “gate.” It also is one-way – it’s an exit “gate.” You guessed it – the mouth. What comes out of the Mouth-Gate is more important (eternally) than anything that goes in. “O, be careful little mouth what you say…”

– eab, 1/17/18

Mat 7.21

“Not every one that saith unto me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;

but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”

Does God have the key to your kitchen: what your body consumes? Does He have the key to your library/den/family room: what your mind consumes?   Does God have the key to your music room (or car radio): another area of mind consumption?  Does God have the key to your attic – what no one sees -where you’ve stored memories of what you do not /now/ do, but wish you could?
