PRIDEFUL + + +

The trick to staying warm is to keep the outside, OUTSIDE. (And the inside, INSIDE.)

Same applies spiritually – keep the world outside your soul.

– eab, 9/7/13

PRIDEFUL

Prideful man wants you to think he knows a lot.

(Whether he knows half that much – or not.)

It gets worse with more letters behind his name;

His self-importance becomes his shame.

God wants to remove arrogance; it’s a blot.

– eab, 1/16/18

Leftwing preachers/pastors have discovered an easy life: preach a little truth (not the whole), rake in offerings which allow them to build greater, more impressive buildings, which in turn attract more wealthy givers and all the time make these followers feel good about themselves (instead of being under conviction for sin). They may think it a “great scheme,” but it will end as earth ends. Preacher and many of his followers (unsaved though “reformed”) will, sadly, be lost.

– eab, 7/9/14

“Spirituality is not how far we are from the world but how close we are to God.”

– James Plank, sermon, 2/3/2000

It takes no equipment, can be done equally well in daylight or dark, and does not require electricity. What is it? Prayer.

– eab, 8/17/14

Mat 6.19

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:”

Both the immodest and the modest can falsely “glory” in their appearance.

Alive + + + +

Some have a love for the world as evidenced by pics, posts, & positions, but they want to claim a love for God too. Turn this around; a true lover of God never try’s to convince you that he loves the world. No, he is fleeing the wrath to come (Mat 3.7& Luk 3.7). Godliness & worldliness mix no more than oil & water.

– eab, 1/13/18

ALIVE

“Your peer, So-n-So, is dead”

Is now, much too often said,

‘Bout the pals & gals of yesteryear.

But were we to see his present mode

In his new happy, high-up abode

He’s more alive than he ever was down here.

Happy are they who die in the Lord,

Whether rich, or slim of “room & board.”

They’ve gone to be with God for aye!

Oh, may you & may I, dear Friend

Land safe in heaven’s port, at our end,

When “he’s dead,” they mistakenly say.

– eab, 1/15/18

God has allowed into heaven a huge variety of personalities, of peculiarities, of persons of preference, all cleansed from sins & purified from Adam’s sin. The Lord is more tolerant of eccentricities than most of us are, but He’s not the least tolerant of carnality. It’s seems too easy for us to be lenient on inbred sin.

– eab, 1/13/18

“Partial obedience is really no obedience.”

– Paul Pierpoint, sermon, 6/24/01

If you were satan, wouldn’t you consider putting out a “false Bible”? Wouldn’t you think it “wicked fun” to gain the assistance of some “christian” scholars to give your “bad book” credence? Wouldn’t you find “delight” in bringing out a 2nd, 10th, 100th new version so people are so confused they give up on the true Bible. Eh? Can you see this?

1/15/18

1Sa 15.22b & 23

“…to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.”

Do not stumble over the concept or word Trinity. It is impossible to understand “Trinity” but God has placed hints & micro-examples around us. Matter of fact, He made man a little trinity himself. The Body is you but, wait, the Soul is you, and, hold-on, life (the spirit from God) is also you. You are all three & if/when one is missing you will no longer be you.

Sky Way + + + +

Convinced that you can speak/write the language Christ spoke on earth? Good, if you truly do — Shame on you if it’s a bragging point. It is *far* better to know Christ & hold communion with Him daily, than to merely know a language He supposedly spoke. BTW, Christ speaks/understands /your/ native tongue & that, Friend is beyond an ancient tongue. It is Wonderful!

– eab, 1/6/18

Sky Way

We’d be totally lost, entirely undone

Had not God had a Son (an only One)

Who was willing, yet not wanting, to die.

His costly death, now centuries gone by

Provides man’s sole route beyond the sky.

This Christ, my soul hath fully won.

– eab, 1/14/16

You are going to die. Where will you be when your funeral is in progress? “I’ll go into oblivion; I’m just an animal as evolution teaches.” What if evolution’s wrong? [It definitely is!] What if 15 seconds after death you’re in hell? “I don’t believe in hell.” Friend, your failure to believe in hell won’t make it 1 degree cooler. Since you know death is coming the only smart thing to do is to prepare. Today. Jesus saves!

– eab, 1/6/18

“Holiness means pure thoughts, pure intentions, pure motives, pure words, pure actions.

It is the purity of heaven brought down to earth…exhibited in a pure life…”

– J M Pike, from his /The Double Cure/

My parents raised me to not call anybody a liar. Such training may’ve saved me from someone re-arranging my face. I’d encourage you to avoid calling any man a liar. But I’d equally encourage you to recognize & call satan a liar for that is exactly what he is. Every lie on the face of the earth has its roots in his wicked nature.

– eab, 1/12/18

Mat 5. 8

“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”

“My country right or wrong” is blindly, sadly wrong. When applied to your school it is incorrect. When said about your denomination it’s still incorrect. Truth seekers – not in name only but true Truth seekers – are not “married to” country, college, or church. We can lose our souls & our kid’s souls by blind “loyalty” to anything o-t-h-e-r t-h-a-n C-h-r-i-s-t.

Fireplace + + + +

If your soul is pulling to the right or pulling (as a car may) to the left, take it to God’s soul-alignment shop right away – before it causes an accident. If you submit your soul to Him (give/re-give Him the “key”) & pay the price (obedience), He can fix your soul’s alignment & have you back on the highway of holiness in a jiffy.

– eab, 1/13/18

FIREPLACE

The damp dark bark down below

And the wind whipping through above,

Make me glad for a fireplace glow

About a hearth with ones I love.

– eab, 1/13/76

Fatherly Balance

It’s a wonderful thing to know

That God who reigns above.

Has a Fatherly balance

Between discipline and love.

– eab, 1/12/09

My grammar is still not impeccable but has improved. In my first year to teach (Hobe ’67) I was talking with Bro. Herron & said, “I seen….” He said, “I saw.” It was not long after that I again said, “I seen….” He again said, “I saw.” He was not unkind, scowling, or preachy, but I got the point. That was possibly the last time I misused that but as I remember it *was* the last time I used it in his presence. He was a great man!

“…The church will succeed in proportion that she corrects the spirit of the age.”

– G. Campbell Morgan

You, lady, met this guy & like a lot about him – maybe 95%. What do you do about “that trying” 5%?

1st Recognize no living human is 100% perfect, including you. 2nd Accept the *fact* you can’t change him (please, for his sake & yours, don’t take this as a challenge & you both suffer for yrs). You decide if you can overlook the negative & love the rest. If you honestly can’t – stop & “shop” 😉 for another.

– eab, 1/13/18

Act 12.5

“Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him”

God, unlike cultish-minded men, doesn’t want to change your personality. He has absolutely no desire to make you a robot. (He could have made such if he’d wanted to.) You’re human, He made you such & enjoys seeing you enjoy humanity. It’s carnality He has made provision to free you from while leaving your humanity intact. Humanity in heaven? Yes. Carnality in heaven? Never!

Glitz + + +

Think about gardening. (Planning, as elsewhere, is part of the “fun.”) Think about what you/your family like. (No point in raising eggplant – beautiful, shiny, purple, huge if nobody likes them.) Think about how much you can use fresh. Think about how you’ll preserve what you can’t eat: Canning (practical old method) Freezing (takes $ to keep frozen, what if electric goes off?) Drying (I’d like to learn more about it), Root cellaring. Now’s a time to dream.

– eab, 1/11/18

Glitz

Off with the glory,

And on with the glitz;

That’s what happens,

When God’s not in our midst.

– eab, 1/10/09

You can believe in “God” but your god not be the God of the Bible. You can believe there’s a satan but fail to see the satan the Bible describes. Read the Good Book looking for descriptions of good people & bad and descriptions of angels & devils. Particularly see the true God in His majesty & adore Him. And I urge you to see the terrible wickedness of satan & steer entirely away from him & his ilk.

“The whole futuristic idea of locating the antichrist in some militarist is unscriptural…”

– L L Pickett, from his /The Antichrist/

If you’re interested in Revelation (& I surely hope you are J) here’s a *key* to remembering the “Seals” “Trumpets” & “Vials.” They’re in alphabetical order – that always helps; an “S,” “T,” no U (You “U” don’t want to be there when it’s transpiring) – & “V.” Hope this helps.

Rev 1.19

“Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter”

Facebook is like attending a convention at which you know everybody, make that e-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y. There’s a wave to the right, a nod straight ahead, a smile to the left = likes. With a few you stop long enough to shake a hand, give a non-flirtation hug, exchange words of greeting & move on. It’s better than a convention: you didn’t have to fight for a parking spot, pay an entrance fee, or walk miles doing it. And you can be instantly home when you want to be. J

YOUR LIFE

You cannot live another’s life,

Strive ever so hard, live ever so long,

You can never feel their pain, or sing their song.

You have your own terrific life to live,

Your own personal niche to fulfill.

Give it, Friend, all your ability

Give your life all your force, your free will.

He who gave you your life, loves you still!

– eab, 1/3/07

He had a unique appearance – horse kicked him yrs earlier, putting a permanent “wrinkle” in his upper lip. He had, what was to me, a unique name Blaine – first of only 3-5 Blaines I’ve known. As a car lover, I noticed his unique 48 black, Ford business coup. The best thing I remember about Bro Haley was a unique (1st I heard) testimony at our Pilgrim Holiness Ch. Spoke of “Agreeing to disagree, agreeably.” I agree!

“…We should feel only pity to the sinner. If we are angry at the person as well as the fault, we sin.”

– John Wesley, quoted by – Warren McIntire, /Righteous Indignation/

Do you save “left-overs”? You should. What is left from the Lord’s Day meal can be served for supper on Tuesday or Wednesday. The same can be true for other periods which are 2-3 days apart. Or freeze servings for a week or month down the road. Tupperware (or the like) will keep these fine in frig or freezer without bad tastes. Wasted food (throwing leftovers out) is wasted money. “A dollar saved is a dollar earned” is still true.

– eab, 1/11/18

Rev 1.7

“Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.”

If you’re a young man called of God to preach let me to give you advice about eye contact. Look a congregation in the eye. Look to the right, look to the left, look at those in the back, look at the people up front. Yes, some are easier to preach to than others but allow your gaze to encompass them all. I’ve been present when church corners (above eye level) got “preached at” & the center aisle was “hit something ferocious.” J Preach looking people in the eye.

DON’T FORGET TO SING

Take your stand with words stout and strong

Against perceived and actual wrong

Blast the watch-trumpet loud and long

But don’t forget to sing.

Write your booklet or your tract

Marshall every “fact-let” and fact

Be both punctual and exact

But don’t forget to sing.

Sing of God’s salvation full and free,

Sing of Pentecost without gold or fee,

Sing “once though blind, now I see.”

Saints ought oft to sing!

Sing of grace to meet each trial,

Sing of love in the hardest mile,

Sing of Heaven’s up-coming smile.

Sing! God’s holy people sing!

– eab, Jan. 2006  (2 of 4 verses + chorus)

Pray. “Me pray? Pray tell me, for what I would pray?” Be perfectly honest with God (one of the great advantages of the secret “prayer closet” – no one hears your prayer) & be perfectly honest with yourself & you may find more about which to pray than you can imagine.

We, Christian churches, have been robbed at “pen-point.” Too often shallow “music” scribblers have written UNrhymed ditties and equally shallow “worship leaders” have foisted such tripe onto UNwilling congregations.

“I’m too young to have gray hair!” Oh. Really? God didn’t think so. 1/8/18

This morning I was able again to enjoy one of life’s simple pleasures. After I had done my variety of stretches & drunk two glasses of water (making observations out our kitchen window as I did), I was able to sit down in my favorite chair (with a glass of OJ beside me), put my favorite Book in my lap & look out our front room twin windows before I started to read. Across from us is a stretch of fenceless field & a stand of mainly deciduous woods upon which I never tire of feasting my eyes. Thank You, Jesus.

Virgin Born

It was by a woman, sin entered the earth

(“Humanly speaking” – for what that is worth)

And it was by a woman our Redeemer came

A lowly, single, peasant dame.

Man can be saved, because a virgin gave birth.

– eab, Jan. 2016

Literature is my BA major. Lit’s main divisions are Poetry & Prose. Prose is separated into Fiction & Non-fiction. The last was once “cut-&-dried.” The entertainment industry (it’s a multi-billion $ industry, spewing out pollution) has blurred the line between Fact & Fiction. I could wish this blurring were only in the world & “formal churches” – it’s not. Awake, Friend, the best of us have too many “innocent” (Not!) images floating in our heads. Flee hollywood. Seek Truth in the Greatest Non-fiction Book.

Heb 6.1

“Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection…”

There are various scenes in the Bible which would’ve been great to witness: you possibly have a list (long list J) of them. Was just thinking about Christ’s calling Matthew to follow Him. When He invited the two sets of fishing brothers they left, post hast, & there appears to be someone still to help dad. But Matthew, did he have an assistant to take his stool while it’s still warm? To whom did he leave his business? That’s one of the scenes I’d like to see.

Eternity + + +

Be content. Make it a game to use what you have, now & all of life. There’s pleasure in “making do” “stretching the dollar” “re-purposing” items others would’ve discarded. I’m not a “tree-hugger” or an “eco-wacko” but a man whom God has endowed with a degree of common sense & has enabled to see a new “use” for this or that, across years. Be content. It-is-a-choice!

Eternity

I love that Name

God is the ever-present Present.

He guarantees the certainty

Of His habitation: eternity.

In teaching how Bible I’ve used my hand to help people remember 5 questions as they study.

Thumb – short – ask a short (3 letter) question “Who.”

Index finger – longer – ask a longer (4 letter) question “What.”

Middle finger – longest – ask the longest (5 letter) question “Where.”

Third finger – back down – ask a long (4 letter) question “When.”

Little finger – short – ask second short (3 letter) question “Why.” (Apply to all subjects) – eab, 1/7/18

“When I got serious with God, God got serious with me.”

– B J Walker, sermon, 8/4/2009

Some people do not want to be bothered with thinking. They want to eat, sleep, work (little or lot depending on personality), marry, follow sports teams, & go to church without having to think. One reason ritualistic churches have popularity is attendees can be put-asleep-by-rites, not be forced examine anything.

2Co 6.2

“…Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

*Longer post – share for a friend.*

You used to attend a careful school/college/church. You _saw_ God move in services & knew it was His presence you felt in prayer-meetings. But you married, transferred to a bigger school or opted to go to a more fashionable church, & took on worldly ways. Decades have passed. Recently an even, death, tragedy grabbed your attention. You have a distinct impression God is trying to get your attention. I beg you, *listen.* You’re especially blessed that after yrs of wandering, that He’s returned & invites you to come back to Biblical living. It’ll be hard for you to pull out of the ruts you’ve been in – in fact it will take all the manhood/womanhood you can possibly muster. The devil will try to convince you that you can’t return to right, religious roots. “What will folks say?” Worse, “What will my children say?” The devil will appeal to your pride, he’ll remind you of your position in the church. _Stop_ putting off God. It is /your/ never dying soul which is at stake. “I can’t straighten out all these decades.” _Start_ doing this hour what you know you ought to do. Man-up. Repeat, “It will take all the manhood/ womanhood” you possess but 15 sec after you’re dead you’ll be glad you did. This very post maybe *your wakeup call*.
