Act 3.19 +

Act 3.19

“…When the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord”

If you’re a farm lad or lass (or were blessed to have been one) you may recall a hot, haying-day in the “south forty” or being down in the pasture cutting iron weed & thistles when “out of nowhere” came the most delicious, cooling breeze. You absolutely loved it. As I was brushing boiled linseed oil on our rustic fence recently such a breeze moved through – It. Was. Wonderful. Saints, how much like these, are the unmerited “breezes” of the Holy Spirit in our sin-heated world. Oh, we need His presence!

– eab, 7/27/18

“He will only come to a heart that is aflame

with ardent desire for His presence.”

– J M Pike, /The Double Cure/

I met folks yrs ago who wouldn’t have a radio. That “tribe” is almost extinct. Now I see people walking, mowing lawns, you-name-it, with tiny speakers in ears & therefore voices invading their brains. The no-radio-people may’ve not been right, but neither am I convinced that always having words/“music” piped into your head is good. Don’t be afraid to be alone with your mind & God.

– eab, 7/30/18

Moon

Hi, odd shaped moon on high,

Luminary ship in a night-like sky,

What doest Thou in your reign

Looking down on us with such disdain?

By grace, saints will pass you by.

– eab, 7/31/10

Mat 5.4

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”

When did the church start laughing more than she weeps? (Yes, there is a genuine holy laughter but it is very rare.)  Possibly when the preacher started seeing himself as an “encourager,” rather than a “…preacher of righteousness…”(2Pe 2.5).  NOTE: When warning of laughter in church, I’m speaking of excess. And particularly of the “leader” who is purposely being funny. I’m not referring to accidental humor (totally unplanned) at which I also laugh at times.

– eab, 7/31/18

“The only protection against compromise

is a continual growth in grace.”

– Unknown, Allegheny W. M. paper

If the devil is going to prepare people to enter his ecumenical church – the antichrist will be religious, he wants you to think he’s Christ – he (satan) has to have a substitute for the Holy Spirit. If satan is going to get foolish souls to follow him, he’s going to make them feel good about themselves – feel like all is well, when sadly it is the opposite. Today, saint, is the time to BEG God for discernment. Now is the time to “try the spirits” (1Jo 4.1). And then – – – have the backbone to leave an apostate church.

Jonah 4.5

“…Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.”

*Praise for Place* #1

Tomorrow, in 2013, I picked up my wife & carried her across the threshold into our humble (& then much in need of TLC) bungalow. NOTE: if you’re not happy where you live allow 3 statements: 1st – I’m truly sorry. I hate to “feel caught” & if that’s where you are, I regret that for you. 2nd – God may be going to work a miracle & give you a new spot. 3rd – I beg you take an honest look around – maybe you’re missing a window view you should be enjoying. Maybe that back yard needs your (you read that right) YOUR creative touch. Maybe you’re not seeing your apartment or house as you ought. AND, this last is not a maybe, Without doubt, pray God will help you to learn contentment. – eab, 7/29/18

“Jesus was holiness personified.”

– J M Pike, /The Double Cure/

*Praise for Place* #2

Five years ago this spring I received direction for the next stage of life (had never gotten clearer direction from God). I was to retire. We began seeking a little house to buy & as I was retiring, it didn’t need to have an exact location. We looked at or “drove by” (1 or 2 that was enough J) houses in 7 counties in IN & even 1 in OH. I wanted 1 story, no basement, & a 2-3 other details. As I’ve remembered “this house” or “that” at which we looked, I’ve thanked God over & over that we didn’t buy it. (We’d been here yrs before I realized God gave me something I’d not even asked for – my favorite type of road across the way – 2 tire tracks with grass in the middle.) – eab 7/20/18

SILVER SPOON

Some men were born, “with

A silver spoon in their mouth.”

Least that’s how the expression goes.

Others came with the right last name –

That always effects /how/ life flows.

Others (if they have a name)

Somewhat make their own

Oats? They got what was sown.

But silver or not, name or no

These only count here below.

For at the White Bar of the High Lord

We’re judged by OUR action, OUR word.

– eab, 7/29/17

*Praise for Place* #3

For yrs my wife & I assumed we’d retire to TN. East TN has beautiful mountains, we’d lived there 11 married yrs, & she has family there. But as I’ve gotten older I perspire more readily. TN heat & humidity seemed a drawback. I also considered they tax food (many states do not). License, car tags, & insurance were more simple by staying in the same state. At that time our sons lived in different locations; our daughters lived in the same state. Love East TN but it wasn’t the spot God had for us to retire. We’re both happy here. – eab, 7/20/18

“I mean that every man in my kingdom

shall have the right to be saved in his own way.”

– Frederick The Great

*Praise for Place* #4

“There are 3 things about starting a Christian School: 1st is location, 2nd is location, 3rd is location.” (A saying from my yrs in that field.) God gave us a bungalow with location, location, location: 1.) We’re near to 2-3 towns for stores & places to eat (try to take Martha out more since her stroke). 2.) We’re near a variety of holiness churches. 3.) We’re across from a “park” which I don’t have to pay tax on, or mow, but get to enjoy grassy field, a stand of woods (I see beauty of all FOUR seasons) & with a little walk, see a peaceful lake. Praise the Lord. – eab 7/20/18

Exo 20.4 +

Exo 20.4

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:”

If it is TRUE (to you) because you “saw the picture” you’re obsessed by images. If it is TRUE (to you) because you read it in the Bible, you’re depending on God’s Word. There’s a huge difference between believing a picture, drawing, cartoon, photograph, CGI made by man – accurate or sleight of hand – and believing the Everlasting Bible. I stand with the Book!

– eab, 7/27/17

“Die to live, Lose to save, Give to have.”

*NEW SERIES* Earth & world are not the same. 33 verses have BOTH words. Think – food for thought.

1Sa 2.8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the EARTH are the LORD’S, and he hath set the WORLD upon them. Earth&World – think. #1

Who is your god?

Who is your god?

What has he done,

Before your life begun?

Who is your god?

What does he do,

Now that you are you?

Who is your god?

Where will he be,

When the true God “opens” eternity?

– eab, 7/28/06

LiFe or deaTH?

When the twig has life, there’s limberness.

When it dies, it degrades to stiffness.

So the soul, when spiritually alert,

Can give a little, back-up   – rather than hurt.

Unbending knee/mind is a sign of deadness.

– eab, 7/28/11

2Pe 1.11

“For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly

into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Do you want to barely make it into heaven? Are you like a lazy student who wants to just barely pass a course – he has no desire to “learn this stuff,” he just doesn’t want to fail. “I don’t want to go to hell but I don’t want to go ‘overboard’ about God either.” There’s a better way to live, Friend, & a much, Much, MUCH better way to die!

– eab, 7/28/18

“The Refiner is never far

from the mouth of the furnace when His gold is in the fire.”

– Charles Spurgeon

How important is what you believe about human origins? Do you think Adam was the very first man? 2nd Q. – How important is what you believe about earth/heaven origins? Do you accept Gen 1 literally? If man could’ve evolved (he didn’t; impossible) you might also dream a Big Bang happened. No. God did use a Big Bang. He needs no such in His creation. Big Bang is of the devil. How important are origins?

Luk 11.23 +

Luk 11.23

“He that is not with me is against me: and

he that gathereth not with me scattereth.”

As a septuagenarian with a life-time in Christian schools, holiness churches, mission visits I have seen a lot. Thank God, I’ve seen real saints: men/women who sincerely tried to match their life to the Bible, on a daily basis. And I’ve seen people who once stood with Holy Scripture move to the left both on the inside & out. Sadly, I’ve seen more of the latter, than the former. Allow a probe – you are closer to God or further away? Eh?

– eab, 7/26/18

“Every sanctified experience has a reverse gear in it.”

– Earl Newton, sermon, 2/7/94, Oelrichs, SD

Now & then I see a child’s face that’s been painted. Maybe a flower is placed here, a bug painted there. (I assume these are easily removed). Is this telling the boy/girl it’s OK to paint yourself? Will this make her (even him, heaven forbid) think it’s alright to wear lipstick/eye coloring/fingernail paint? If the Sunday School class, the VBS, the holiness children’s camp thought it was OK, why can’t I put it on other times? Will these supposed “innocent” acts make it easier to accept tattooing?

– eab, 7/26/18

BIBLE READING

Did you read God’s Word today,

While morn was fresh & still “new”?

Did you ponder It before noon passed away

As you knew you ought to do?

Or did some paper take Its place

Words of men, pictures of disgrace?

– eab, 7/25/17

Rom 13.8

“Owe no man any thing, but to love one another:

for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.”

Debt has driven some men to consider suicide (never think about such a horrible sin). If for no other reason, Get out of debt, & Stay out of debt. “But I want…” Or you’ve convinced yourself you “need…” or you that you “deserve…” Stop this childish thinking. Control your wants. Learn to be content!

– eab, 7/22/18

“TV doesn’t go with holiness.

TV started with the devil and its still of the devil.”

– Lester Roloff [he was not a holiness preacher]

Does a tightness or skimpiness of shirt/blouse bring people’s eyes to your biceps/bosom? If that’s what you want, check your level of carnal pride. If you’re purposely wearing your hair (or lack of hair) to draw attention, if you are purposely wearing shoes/boots, short skirt/tight pants to get the attention of others, ask God to show you. He can give a new heart centered on Him; you won’t seek man’s looks or compliments.

“…Pilate saith unto them, ‘Shall I crucify your King?’

The chief priests [Jews] answered, ‘We have no king but Caesar.’”

#1. Jesus was born of a Jewish mother therefore the Jews where His “people.” One of the saddest facts of history is His “people” disregarded Him, “He came unto his own and his own received him not” was stated by His apostle John (1.11) & his Gospel proves this rejection over & over.

Joh 5.16…therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus and sought to slay him because…done…on the sabbath…

Joh 5.18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him…He…said also that God was his Father…

Joh 7.1…Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.

Joh 10.31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

Joh 18.12 …the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,

GOD TO EARTH

God came to earth chronologically,

In His pre-incarnate Son, an angel, voices.

It’s His divine prerogative to have such choices.

He came to earth once historically,

In the Person Mary carried, Mary’s born Son.

Never had this land known a Prophet as this One.

He still comes to spots occasionally,

At an altar as a soul asked to be forgiven,

At a bedside when a child’s simple prayer is given

And He’ll come at earth’s end – epically.

Then He’ll be fully King – His Kingdom fully come,

His saints ready to call Christ-prepared mansions home.

– eab, 7/25/18

Gal 4.8

“Howbeit then, when ye knew not God,

ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.”

It would be nearly unbelievable if we knew the # of people who’ve “played” in this movie or that. The media tries to make these actors appear as heroes, writes quotes from movies (as if they were real) & follows the details of their sordid lives. In short, they’ve made them into gods & goddess to millions.

– eab, 1/7/18

“Truth has never lost ground by inquiry.”

– William Penn, /Maxims/

Sinister “forces” in schools/colleges have wanted to divide students from their parents, from their “tribe/clam/group” & from God. Be very leery of new courses, or new approaches to supposed older courses which alienate younger generations from the older one. Especially when many times the older generation (trusting the institution) is purposefully left in the dark to these shifts.

“And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and

Religions are of great “use” to satan. They make men think they’re OK because they do a rosary, or fast, or take a pilgrimage, or eat special foods, etc. God has no need for religion. He offers religion’s counterpart – full & free Salvation. Religions end at the grave. Salvation is eternal.

– Bob Lands, 6/23/98

When you buy a pass for a ball game you’re supporting the huge paychecks these men-still-doing-boyish-play are getting. (Don’t complain then about their exorbitant “salaries.”) When you purchase a ticket to see an opera or play you are supporting the pay & life style of such actors. When you pay to view a “picture-show” or rent a movie you are supporting the addictions & sexual promiscuity these people.

Are you trying (don’t kid me), really trying, to memorize verses & references? “I can’t.” You can. “I said I can’t, I’ve tried.” Do you have a phone # memorized? “But that’s different.” Yes, it surely is & satan knows that. It’s very doubtful that any remembered phone # will ever save your soul. But the right verse, meditated on, prayed about, & believed with all your heart, could make the difference between heaven & hell. Please stop excusing your lack of memorizing the Word.

Some people with an addiction don’t like to be reminded that they /have to have/ “x” & they may try to compare it with a normal need to eat or drink water. God made us to require (& to enjoy) food & H2O.   But when you or I  HAVE. To. Over the face of earth Paul (St. Paul, if you must) is admired. Allow me to encourage you via his life. He grew. He grew up in Christ, “…When I became a man I put away childish things” (1Co 13.11). Friend, if something childish remains in your daily routine, there’s hope. You can rid it out of your life, out of your desires. He also said, “…I have learned…to be content (Php 4.11). “Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued,

not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;”

Some men are chosen to serve on boards (church/college/conference) because they’re “yes men.” A pastor wants to push through his (may not be God’s) agenda. A college president or conference leader has changes he really wants. The last member some leaders want is a Thinker. They don’t want to answer pesky “little” questions about Who, Where, Why. “Bro. Z is respected, known to be easy to persuade (he may be more interested in fishing or golf) let’s put him on the board.” Some board members have shirked the job saying “yes” too often, too easily!

– Martin Wells Knapp, /Christ Crowned Within/

I hope your parents (or someone in your formative yrs) taught you to say, “Yes sir,” “No sir,” “Yes Ma’am,” “No Ma’am,” “Please,” “Excuse me,” “Thank you.” If they did not, it’s not too late – repeat, It’s Not Too Late – teach yourself these words of respect & courtesy. True, there are a few people who don’t know how to re-act when called “Sir” or “Ma’am” but a lot of us appreciate cordial words.

Col 3.15

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body;

and be ye thankful.”

“How, pray tell, does one *learn* to be happy?” Possibility the prescription is slightly different for each of us but allow a suggested place to start. Start by being thankful. Have eyes to see? Thank God – some are blind. Have hearing? “Well, it’s not as good as it used to be.” (I understand that.) Be glad you hear as well as you do – some are deaf. Have a sense of smell? – some don’t. Do you still have feelings in fingers & toes? – another point for gratitude. Does food taste good? – some have to eat “baby food.” Be thankful!

You’ve heard of God & heaven: no pain, tears, or death. Heard of it – but have allowed satan to convince you, YOU can’t go. (No, not in yourself. In ourselves no one makes heaven.) We “…must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Heb 11.6). Jude 20-21…praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for…mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.  >> last in this series <<

THERE’S NOTHING ODD ABOUT GOD

It should not be thought odd,

There’s an almighty loving God,

Who has made all that mankind ever beholds,

While beyond human sight,

Limitless stars have their own light;

Plus entire “worlds” that a microscope unfolds.

It would be strange,

To imagine that magnificent range

Of palms (to say nothing of pear trees or pines),

Just chanced, just happened to be,

A great, royal, lofty tree.

Chromosomes “had accidents” at the right lines.

Could anyone with solemn brow,

Pronounce “Some way, some how,”

The monkey which has caused such zoo-land laughter,

Is from millions of years,

Steaming jungle’s “blood, sweat and tears”?

Gene met gene, “lived happily ever after.”

There’s a God Who’s over all–

Without Him no “finches” fall.

Creation demands a personal Creator.

No clock has yet made itself,

Nor book on library shelf,

Nor stairway evolved to an elevator.

There’s but one reason,

For this acceptance “for a season,”

Of the theories that some Ph.D.s expound.

To believe granite and jade,

Where by the Trinity made,

To believe Noah’s Flood covered all the ground,

Would require, if consistent,

Belief in Adam’s instant.

(Disobeying was sin at the tragic tree.)

And then, what would follow,

Is the Awesome Man of Sorrow,

With His soul-compelling “Come & follow Me.”

Darwin neglected the Book.

THEN created ways that took

Him far, far from his seminary studies.

Science is gladly known.

Anti-creation has not shown

The missing link, nor any of its “buddies.”

There’s a creating God.

NOT believing – that’s what is odd!

Rejecting earth’s most valid Book is not smart.

Observe, Record, and Act;

God still cleanses, that is a fact.

Unbelievers and God’s fossils will soon part!

– eab, July, 1998

The heavenly mansions are not for rent. It will be eternally yours, once you take occupancy. It will never need painted (IMO), remodeled, or up-dated. I believe your mansion will suit your tastes “to a T” & mine will be just the way I like it. Sometimes we hardly know what we want in a color or style – God knows us better than we know our selves so (IMO) He will have it Personally Perfect! – Sounds good to me.

Allow me (as a minister & friend) to ask how sensitive are you (I am) to the daily leadership of the Holy Spirit? We don’t believe the Bible teaches, “Once saved, always saved.” Or, “Once sanctified always sanctified.” We should not expect (or desire) that the Holy Spirit lead us once-&-for-all. God wants to lead us in day-by-day decisions, the small (as we call them) as well as the great. Are we open His nod, His nudge, His continued nearness?

What happened? Why are people in holiness circles going to dramas? An outdoor banquet without a dish,

And the lad went home no thinner. Joh 6.9

Rev 21.8

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire…”

How many lies does one have to tell to be a liar? (How many men does one have to murder to be a murderer?) The answers are the same – – – one! “But I was kidding.” What if one of us die between the time you started “kidding” until I found out you were “kidding”? At least twice I’ve had a “christian” indicate something was true which was not. Later they made it clear but in the meantime they had a straight face. “O be careful little mouth what you say…” God doesn’t have a light view of liars.

“In each expanded edition of his /Institutes/

Calvin quotes and relies upon Augustine more than ever.”

– Dave Hunt, “Berean Call”

Christian drama is trying to do the impossible. A man with hollywood experience recently saved, would try his best to be honest with Scripture. But with high intentions he can’t do the parable of the sower without adding to or taking away from the Book. The backdrop is “his” not God’s. The sower’s clothing is “his” not God’s. The 4 soils pictured are “his” not God’s. So, if it can’t be Biblical why make a movie? God didn’t need film in the past nor does He now. (There’s little doubt the antichrist will use drama or movie props.)
