Exo 20.4 +

Exo 20.4

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath or that is in the water under the earth:”

“Carnal anger springs from an unholy principle…

Righteous indignation does not & maybe & often is the result of holiness itself.”

– H A Baldwin, /Holiness…Human Element/

Warning – post may seem extreme to some – Please think about influence before dropping into waste can.

Many children (& adults) wear clothing/caps with logos & names from hollywood (& its twin) disney films. Younger people have grown up seeing comic strip characters, Saturday AM cartoon creatures, other make-believe “beings” emblazoned on shirts & take it as a part of culture. Ah. What culture? We know “talking” animals, “flying” men/women, “magical” beasts do Not exist. We know hollywood nor disney have shown any love for God. Why are we, as Christians, helping spread their falseness? Please cease & desist.

“The more holy a saint of God becomes

 the more he hates sin.”

– H A Baldwin

I was once your age,

On the ladder of life,

Climbing rung by happy rung,

Glimpsed what was “the rage,”

Sidestepped the strife,

Sang what was then sung.

Life has turned a page,

For me and my dear wife,

We are no longer “young,”

But we’re enjoying this stage

With its blessing so rife.

Blessing o’er head are hung.

Enjoy living, youth or sage.

Love each stage of your life!

Love the years you’re among.

Php 2.3

“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but

in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.”

The devil wants to divide us: Republican/Democrat, Chevy/Ford, “gold”/“green” (teams), for police/not for police, “X” university/“Y” university, support military/not support, etc. Such divisions (& hype about them) are distractions from “death, sod, & God” – things about which we should be thinking. Give God your soul & love people regardless of “party.”

– eab, 1/31/19

“I have not chosen to please my worldly-minded relatives,

not to please the sophisticated members of the church but I please God.”

– H Robb French, “Eight Rm House”

E ~ T ~ E ~ R ~ N ~ I ~ T ~ Y just an 8 letter word? No! For family/friends who passed into it, it’s far more than a word. If they were obeying Jesus 100% (“All for Jesus, all for Jesus…”(Asa Hull), Eternity stretches ahead with endless beauty, harmony, freshness in the presence of the Lord.  If they rejected God’s redeeming Son, Eternity stretches ahead with pain, fire, memories, & no water forever & forever. – eab, 1/31/19

“…For what is your life? It is even a vapor,

that appeareth for a little time & then vanisheth away.”

“Beware of contentions in religion…whatsoever does not lead you

to love God & man more is most assuredly from beneath.”

– Adam Clarke, /Christian Theology/

Act 17.26 And hath MADE of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the Earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

– God made Heaven, Earth, World # 37

“Meekness – That man walks most safely who has the least confidence in himself…

Pride ever sinks where humility swims…’”

– Adam Clarke, /Christian Theology/

What is the past – a memory,

Encased in picture and word?

What is the future – a hope

A wish it can afford?

The present is all we have

This moment is all we live.

Use it wisely then to praise,

To love, give, & forgive.

2Ti 4.10

“For Demas hath forsaken me,

having loved this present world…”

There’s a struggle going for the soul of holiness churches. Several “went out from us…”(1Jo 2.19) in lifestyle yet think they’re keeping “somewhat” of the doctrine. (Pure holiness & pure lifestyle are strongly connected.). A percentage of these stayed in leadership. Other men, Praise God, are seeking to retain true holiness doctrine & live separate from the world. Please, reader, become aware of this struggle & determine to back heart purity where you worship, where you go to school & most of all in prayer. Real Holiness wins.

– eab, 1/30/19

“That little no-harm devil has done more injury to the holiness movement

than any other devil in the world.”

– C B Fugett, “I Have Played the Fool”

The 1st “Beware” in NT is “Beware of false prophets…”(Mat 7.15). Wish I could say there’s not a wolf around; one may move in our midst as “Brother x.” He may be a “good preacher” “good teacher” or “good” other but he’s not true to the Bible. Christ told us 1.) he’ll try to look like a sheep i.e. his outward show similar to what we expect. 2.) he’s entirely different on the inside. Wolves devour sheep – false prophets reduce the number of true sheep – – – on purpose, saying things like, “You don’t have to live so strict.”

– eab, 1/30/19

“Old time religion will keep you out of the grave longer

& get you out sooner.”

“There is not a more original lot of people on the face of the earth

than those who are entirely sanctified.”

– H A Baldwin, /Holiness…Human Element/

Don’t be the least fooled when you read “So-n-so (some supposed ‘great scientist’) believes there’s a God.” Duh. This finely tuned heaven, earth, sea (& contents) could only have come from the hand of God. The important question is does this guy believe that God sent His Son to the world to redeem fallen men from sin? If he doesn’t, he’s as lost as the most uneducated heathen.

– eab, 1/29/19

“Do not be discouraged [that] average men are all…finding fault…

keep your special peculiarity sanctified & go ahead…”

1Pe 4.7

“But the end of all things is at hand:

be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.”

Do you pray for your pastor? Remember, he’s as human as you are. He faces temptations which are similar to yours. He has a bill or two to pay. His wife/children get sick or have needs in like manner as yours. He has to keep up his private devotions, just as you do & he needs to seek God’s will for messages from the Lord for you, your family & your fellow church attendees. Please put him high on your prayer list. You may not see a change because of your prayers, but continue & you may see a difference soon.

– eab, 1/29/19

“This spirit of forgiveness must work easily readily & without effort

no matter what the offense may be nor how often it has been committed.”

– T M Anderson, /After Sanctification/

Do you pray for your pastor’s sermons? You expect him to speak; if you have spiritual depth, you want him to not just talk. (Some pastors like to talk, perhaps too much.) You want your pastor to have a message from God – right? You’d like his sermons to challenge your soul, stimulate your family & give minds something to “chew on.” As a retired pastor, allow me to encourage you to pray for him, not just from form but with tears & groans as the Spirit leads.

‘assurance is the discriminating line of Christianity from heathenism.’”

– quoted by Able Stevens

Above Sin

Wonderful to live above sin,

That used to dwell and rule within.

Gone are anger, jealousy, and pride;

Gone since the day carnality died.

Guard, God, that these don’t live again.

– eab, Jan 2016

Psa 119.11

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart,

that I might not sin against thee.”

We’re probably living in the generation of least Bible memorization for centuries. Many a previous saint made it a practice to commit a verse (or verses) of God’s book to memory every-so-often. It was a comfort to them. They leaned upon Its promises. They had Scripture verses on the house walls & on their “heart walls.” How about you, Brother? How about you, Sister? Are you memorizing Scripture?

– eab, 1/28/19

“The separation can be so complete that the Lord can pass His hand entirely around you & never strike a bond as big as a cobweb to anybody or anything.”

– T M Anderson

Let me encourage you to read from both the OT & the NT. The late Bill McChesney (missionary killed in the Congo, 11/25/1964) made it his practice to read the OT through once a year & the NT once a month. That may not be your balance but find a system that the Spirit underscores to your heart & follow it – Religiously! – eab, 1/28/19

# 1.) Let’s pretend. A youngish billionaire (who thinks you’ll live the next 40 yrs.) contacts you. He promises to give you 20 yrs. use of his credit card: fly where you want, vacation oft & long, dine “on his nickel” at choice eateries, spend weeks on a foreign beach or in a high country cabin, own the latest super car, buy the nicest clothes. Live it up. THEN, you have to work for him the next 20 yrs: anything he wants (as long as it’s “not illegal, immoral or fattening” to quote EAB II). You’ll work 14 hr days, 6 days per week. There will be no vacations, no holidays; you’ll only get to eat what little he decides, your liquids will be limited to water & not a lot of that. You’ll walk to work, walk home to sleep on a hard floor only to walk back to work, for 20 yrs. (Remember this is imagination.) Would you live high for 20 & slave for 20?

– eab, 1/23/19

“He had a lip problem [Isaiah]

because he had a heart problem.”

– Jeremy Fuller, sermon, 1/25/19

A few more bends of the blue river,

A few more curves in the sandy road,

A few more items to deliver,

A few more miles to carry the load.

And God will call us to be with Him,

Upward without feather, wing, or plane,

Where days aren’t even slightly dim,

And actions are always blessed and sane.

So be faithful to today’s tough task.

Work in the growing, gathering gloom.

Do diligently what Christ does ask.

Heaven will be a glorious home! – eab,  1/26/09

Joh 8.44

“…the devil…was a murderer from the beginning & abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

# 2.) The devil is saying “live it up” “you owe it to yourself”. If you follow his lies you WILL have no choice but have your “best” yrs first. You have no guarantee of 20 yrs of pleasure & no promise of unlimited cash to do as you please. AND, if hell were 6 days of only 14 hrs with limited food & water it would sound wonderful to its inhabitants. Stop believing satan. Don’t go to hell. Jesus died for you.

– eab, 1/23/19

“You can’t bring all that junk with you that you have been cluttered up with…

You can’t hold on to your renegade relatives.”

– T M Anderson, “Great Invitation”

The most important date in our lives is not our D.O.B. (date of birth) but our D.O.D. (date of death). That is the day we step into the presence of God Almighty.  Friend, we either step in very grateful that His Son redeemed us by His precious Blood, or we step in knowing that we rejected the awesome gift of His sacrificial Blood.

“Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not;

charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,”

Whether a decision be judged right or wrong (by my peers) my motive for it *Must* be right in God’s sight. My decision may be considered brilliant or dumb by peers but my attitude is what counts in the Lord’s view. If it were judged brilliant (rare, if ever) I dare not be proud – God helped, early, late or both. If fellow christians access it dumb I need grace to be humble. Decisions can be less important than attitudes.

“…listen with rapt attention to whatever God has to say – like a child would listen to a story. God reveals wonderful things to His children.”

– T M Anderson

Accolades from one who doesn’t know you, are nearly worthless. An exaggerated tribute is of little value. And compliments from one who’s not sincere are not appreciated. Some of us have received a little of one or more of the above. Frankly, I do not need or deserve much if any, praise on earth. There are however a few words which I crave to hear from One who never exaggerates, Who is always sincere, & who knows me like no Other. Those words? “Well done, thou good and faithful servant…(Mat 25.21)

– James Plank, sermon, 1/21/19

Why would anyone (you, your mate, your child, anyone) want to be more attached to the World? Sinners who want to wear its signature jewelry, want to identify with it via tattoos, who insist on puncturing their bodies like heathen do, are surely not thinking about how soon such actions may be called into question. The world is a sinking ship – the farther you are from it when it plunges to the bottom, the better.

Followers of Christ are not adherents to *teachings* of the Roman Catholics [RC]. (Note: There’ve been men who attended RC services who were better than its theories – as there’ve been men who attended Christian groups who were worse than its doctrines.) Go back to evangelical & holiness preaching of 50-60 yrs ago & you’ll hear a number of anti-RC statements. Modernity is too ecumenical – few preachers warn. We should avoid pics of RC priests, monks, nuns. We shouldn’t knowingly quote a modern RC writer, or use pics of RC steeples or “crosses”.

Many are worried about the Big “C” Cancer. It is bad & has taken too many the lives in recent years. But too few are worried about the Big “C” Carnality. It is much worse. It has taken the spiritual lives of most of earth’s population. Carnality is not recent. There may be a cure for cancer but not for death. There IS a cure for carnality & with a holy heart one does not have to fear death.

Advice to a lady looking for a husband who’ll provide for her (& hopefully children to come), watch his spending habits. Is he always putting money into his truck? Retired? Good; happy for you. You have extra time to spend with God. No, I’m not speaking of extra time *for* God (pastors appreciate volunteers, I’m sure) I speak of quality time /With/ your Heavenly Father. Get to know Him better before you die. Expand your knowledge of Him by extending reading of His Letter but even that can keep you for reveling in His presence, from adoring Him, one – on – One. You know how you like your child to spend time with you? I believe He’d love for us to do likewise with Him.

Advice to men looking for a wife who’ll be slim J) 20 years after marriage. If she’s running now to keep her weight down she may gain a good bit later. Later she may not be able to run: while pregnant, while watching children & cooking meals for you. “If the bars are open, churches should be” (said, regarding icy/snowy weather). Statement may sound good (at first) – think about it. 1.) Bars do not provide family, Churches are family to some (perhaps the most meaningful they have on earth), 2.) Bar owners are not concerned that you making it home safely (how many accidents are after visiting a bar), Churches are. 3.) Bars are interested in one thing – money, if that is the main interest of a Church it should close forever. 4.) Bars are open 6-7 nights a week, will the average Christian attend Church if it was open as often? 5.) I doubt the rightness of making a decision based on what the devil’s crowd is doing.
