Tit 2.12 +

Tit 2.12

“Teaching us that, denying ungodliness & worldly lusts,

we should live soberly, righteously, & godly, in this present world;”

“All the restlessness around us is but a manifestation of the fact

that man is seeking for rest in the places where it cannot be found.”

– George B Kulp /VoiceFr.Eternity/

Hab 3.9 Thy bow was MADE quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the Earth with rivers. – God made Heaven, Earth, World # 32

“All that the world knows of practical godliness

it has to learn from the lives of Christians.”

– George B Kulp /VoiceFr.Eternity/

NO MATTER

It matters not the color of your skin

Nor the language that you speak.

You’re an earthling, therefore,

One whom Christ came to seek.

– eab, 1/18/13

2Ti 4.3

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine;

but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears”

You’ve continued to pastor/evangelize/do missions/teach in groups associated with The Interchurch Holiness Convention but your attitude & some action(s) suggests your heart is not with us. Why have you stayed? Suggestions: 1.)You attended a careful school so old friends are among the right ranks. 2.)Your child married someone from a narrow group. 3.)You’ve attained a leadership position which you relish. 4.)You haven’t had the nerve to follow your left-leaning heart. Truthfully sir, it could be more “honorable” to go over to the left rather than oppose our stands. However, going is not best for you/your family. Please repent & stay. – eab, 1/10/17

“The church that is adopted by the world is never the true Church

– for the world never ceases to persecute the True Church.”

– V O Agan, ’55 Conf. Sermon

Some “christian” women are (sadly) walking “sandwich boards” for worldliness. “See, I can attend a ‘holiness’ church/school, my husband or I can have a position there, & I can trim my hair” (one of the first marks of backsliding IMO). This is a signal to worldly, female friends, “I’ve admired your cut hair & I’m following you.” More sadly, a “holiness” mother who trims/cuts (when I trim my grass, I cut my grass) her hair is saying to her daughter “uncut hair is not important.” When a son starts dating a cut-haired girl what can be said?

– eab, 1/23/17

& want to know what science says about it.”

Jon 2.9 +

Jon 2.9

“…I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving;

I will pay that that I have vowed…”

“If a man is not a Christian in his business

he is not a Christian anywhere.”

– George B Kulp /VoiceFr.Eternity/

Jon 1.9 And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of Heaven, which hath MADE the Sea and the Dry Land.  – God made Heaven, Earth, World # 31

“The sinner’s conscience is the best reflector of the Judgment seat,

in life & in death.”

– George B Kulp /VoiceFr.Eternity/

VICTORY WORTH THE CROSS

A lone walnut chanced to drop upon the sod alone,

Where it seemed to lie and simply rot, quietly, forlorn.

Its form was changed, its symmetry gone.

Its kernel worthless to eat,

What an untimely end thus to met.

Deep inside its little heart new life was beginning,

Oh, for a fresh start (another game – not a new inning).

A root from it ranged, a shoot saw the dawn,

A tree, from apparent loss,

Victory is always worth the cross.

– eab, 1/16/78

Eph 5.25

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church,

and gave himself for it;”

Many of us stood at altars, thrilled to be getting married. We heard, “Till death do us part” & honestly meant it. But in all honesty, it sounds more serious now than then. We’re closing in on: one of you two, one of us, unless in a crash, etc, will die first. If your mate is a saint (no one knows that like you do!) we “sorrow not even as others which have no hope” (1Th 4.13). It could be selfish to want-to-die-first but to be the mate remaining must be lonely. In spite of coming loneliness, I happily believe the song, God gave me for Phillip/Heather, “Marriage is a wonderful thing” [repeat], “Its foundation stones were Divinely laid…”

– eab, 12/14/17

“There will not be any holiness in hell;

there will not be any sin in heaven.”

– V O Agan, sermon 5/31/99

There are 1000s of post-Biblical words. Multitudes of these have flowed in from other languages, from technology, & other sources; many are legit & useful. It may be good to remember their newness. On the other side, there are no pre-Biblical expressions, “In the beginning was the WORD…” Joh 1.1.

– eab, 12/18/17

“We need to see & feel the torments of hell & the glory of heaven;

then we could help our people.”

– – V O Agan, ’55 Conf. Sermon

1Ch 16.9

“…The eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth,

to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.”

“O beloved, you are wondering why God left you? Why there is no power? No unction?

God never left a soul yet that wanted Him to stay.

– George B Kulp /VoiceFr.Eternity/

Eze 31.16 I MADE the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: & all the trees of Eden, the choice & best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the Earth.  – God made Heaven, Earth, World # 30

READ HEAD

If I said

He has a read head,

You may think me “termly”

Mistaken,

Not seeing the stacks

Of books and old facts,

His mind has firmly

Undertaken.

– eab, Jan. 2012

Awesome Agreement

God the Father and God the Son by mutual consent,

Were agreed, before God the Spirit earthward went,

And Mary also, humanly agreed

To be the vessel They would “need.”

(Some background behind the Incarnation “event.”)

– eab, 1/14/16

Heb 11.23

“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents,

because they saw he was a proper child;”

No one can honestly say “my son” “my daughter” if they’re purposely excluding the other parent. God in His perfect plan made the producing of a child a two-parent activity. And – a two parent responsibility. Some couples want no children – they run from the responsibility & sharing. Such a childless couple may have “his dog” & “her dog” but children belong to BOTH parents. God’s plan cannot be improved upon!

– eab, Jan 2019

“Who is it that loves God &

does not wish to love Him with all the heart.”

– V O Agan, sermon 11/28/84, Friendsville, TN

Do you have to be African to pray for Africa? Of course not. But I cannot think of a more effectual prayer for Africa than a redeemed African. Same is true for every other continent. Are you praying “…The Lord of the harvest that He would send forth laborers into…” your land mass? – eab, 1/14/19

“Self loves self. We are so easy on self, & hard on others,

unless we are desperate for the victory.”

“Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.”

“Fool for thinking a soul could be fed on the contents of a barn. Fool for degrading his soul to the level of a beast. Fool for neglecting the provision God had made to satisfy him.”

Jer 51.15 He hath MADE the Earth by his power, he hath established the World by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the Heaven by his understanding. – God made Heaven, Earth, World # 29

FIRE

Elijah went up in a “chariot of fire.”

He left his country of sickness and mire,

Going where no priest or prophet is for hire,

Going where white robes are the saint’s attire.

God, give us more of Elijah’s blessed fire!

– eab, Jan. 2007

Luk 18.1b

“…Men ought always to pray, and not to faint;”

If all you’ve know is flat-land, bland “christianity” it may never have occurred to you that spiritual mountians exist. On the other hand maybe you’ve sensed a relative, class-mate, parishioner (if you pastor), student (if you teach school), has a spiritual height far above where you’re trudging. Thousands of men & millions of dollars have been spent climbing earth’s mountains. Every man who didn’t die in his climb, came back down. Through Christ’s second birth spiritual climbers can ascend & would you believe (it is only possible by believing J) go up & up & never ever descend; climbing all the way to heaven.

– eab, 6/9/17

“If there be no Providence there will be no future judgment.”

– Isaac Watts /Logic/

May I encourage you to be a middle-of-the-night prayer? Roll out of bed, without looking at the clock, find that chair in which to be seated or at which to kneel or go to where you can pace-back-&-forth & pray. Return to bed when you feel clear, without looking at the clock. (Trust God to make up your body rest for the time you were receiving soul rest.) God is timeless, let your time with Him be as timeless as we humans can manage.

– eab, 6/17/17

“I have been young & now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken,

nor his seed begging bread.”

“Hypocrites prove that godliness is profitable.

Men always counterfeit that which is valuable.”
– George B Kulp /Voice fr. Eternity/

If your work or ministry puts you in contact with older people (strangers to you), allow a suggestion. The first time you need to use their name ask, “What would you like me to call you: ‘Mr. Jones’ ‘Mr. George’ (southern respectful title), ‘George’ or something else?” The source of automatically calling older people by their first name is skewed – they may well prefer a title they’ve been called for decades, not this modern fad. And, let them tell you rather than you asking, “Is it OK if I call you George?” They may not like it, but hesitate to give you their preference & simply nod guessing that’s what you want. A warmer relationship is possible when they feel you respect them.

LIVE THIS HOUR

I cannot live tomorrow,

Nor should I even try.

I cannot live yesterday,

It’s gone for aye, bye-bye.

I cannot live the morning,

If it’s already past the noon.

I cannot live the evening,

(unless it comes “real soon.“)

I must live this hour!

Enjoying it, in the Lord,

Must live it in His power,

Through His presence, and His Word.

– eab, Jan. 2006

Psa 32.11

“Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous:

& shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.”

“Joy” & “fun” each have 3 letters. That is about where comparisons end. Joy (fruit of the Holy Spirit) can be quite or exuberant but is always uplifting. You’re definitely better inside & out after a joyful experience. Fun is a cheap substitute but many times is crude, cruel (think unpractical “practical” jokes) & often leaves one disappointed & emotional down.

– eab, 1/10/19

“Men often take their imagination for their heart &

they believe they are converted as soon as they think of being converted.”

TANGLED DREAM

Will we look from the other shore,

Of death’s cold, rushing stream,

And see all our “reality,”

Was but a tangled dream?

– eab, Jan. ’05

Joh 15.19

“If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.”

The devil is not scared of a “form of godliness,” in fact he uses such to slyly damn souls. It’s when a man, when a woman, reaches for & with holy determination reaches through into the richness of God’s Power that satan is disturbed. Expect a fight from him, but after the fight expect his flight. You & God make a wonderful majority.

– eab, 1/9/19

“St. Paul, himself a widower, enjoins bishops to marry…”

– Martin Luther /Table Talk/

Do you expect heaven to have ball parks & arenas with highly-paid players & scantily-clad cheerleaders? Be honest. I hope you readily see carnal actions & appetites will not be there. So, why are you going? “Well, many professed christians are going.” Sadly, I understand that, but that doesn’t answer the question – Why are YOU going? An appetite for worldly fun reveals a worldly heart (except in very new christians). Reach for the higher pleasures Christ has for you.

“…The false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image…These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.”

“If you do not want to be even thought a card player,

do not have cards in your house.”
– George B Kulp /Voice fr. Eternity/

Please, for your soul’s sake don’t become obsessed with “miracles.” As the age closes, you may see more supposed “miracles.” The devil was unable to bring fire to the sacrifice on Mt. Carmel but will bring down fire in the future “…Maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth…”(Rev 13.13). Let your emphasis be on salvation & holiness not on “miracles.”

-eab, 1/6/19

I LOVE YOU LORD

I love you Lord Jesus, I love you fine Lord,

Who can wondrously, carelessly, joyfully afford,

To wind up your wind machine and run it all night,

To help humble Jews escape Egypt, in flight.

It plowed through the Sea called red burrowing, pushing

Water to north of it, water to south creating an isthmus

Creating the opposite of a stream mouth

The wind came from the east, plowing a groove

Of dry sandy marching ground in the sea’s belly,

Pilling water north of it, stacked up like jelly,

And water to south of it equally stood,

(Waves folded their hands, as all good waves should.)

And when you were done proving You could

Do what those gods were falsely proclaimed,

(Showing how they were all illfully named)

You closed up your wind machine, closed it so tightly,

Egyptians were caught in it, sadly but mightily.

– eab, Jan 2003 (first 17 lines of 83 line poem.)

1Co 6.1

“Dare any of you, having a matter against another,

go to law before the unjust & not before the saints?”

My wife told our children many years ago to be friends with their siblings. Other friends come & go but you’ll be related to your sister/brother all of life. She/he may not be perfect (like you are 😉 but overlook a quirk or two & embrace the rest. Be such good friends that your children see that & can freely fellowship with their first cousins. Family unity should not be taken for granted but it can happen & should. And – – – YOU are a Key to your family loving each other across generations.

– eab, 1/7/19

“There are only three kinds of persons; those who serve God having found Him; others who are occupied in seeking Him, not having found Him; while the remainder live without seeking Him and without having found Him. The first are reasonable and happy the last are foolish and unhappy; those between are unhappy and reasonable.”

 – Blaise Pascal /Pensees/

Do not make converts to “your position.” In stead, through private & corporate Bible study, through thorough searching of Scriptures, & openness in holy prayer, bring your friends & you to a fuller view of God’s & His timeless word. It, not our position, is what will count as we, via death, change worlds.

– eab, 1/9/19

“Other religions as the pagan are more popular for they consist in externals…The Christian religion alone is adapted to all being composed of externals & internals. It raises the common people to the internal & humbles the proud to the external; it is not perfect without the two for the people must understand the spirit of the letter & the learned must submit their spirit to the letter.

– Blaise Pascal /Pensees/

“…Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind…shall inherit the kingdom of God.”

Dad’s dad (C. “Edgar”) passed away before I was born. Mom’s mom died when I was 5. Mom’s dad (from whom, happily, I got my middle “Andrew”) died when I was in h.s., & Dad’s mom also. Why tell you this? If you have 4 grandparents go see all 4 this year. If you have 3 grandparents write them of your appreciation that they’re in your life. If you have 2 grandparents send them birthday cards. If you have but 1 let him/her know you love them & show it with a call. Once they’re gone it’s too late to listen to stories of their childhood, their early married life, or some detail about your dad/mom. Love them.

“…Paul very well says ‘They deny the power of godliness.’ He does not say they deny godliness but they deny the power, strength, & virtue…by false & superstitious doctrine.”

– Martin Luther

The man who wants to talk, stand like, smell like, wear his hair, dress like a women is rebelling against God’s most basic category: male & female. The woman who wants to walk, swear, cut off her hair or dress like a man is in rebellion. Christians are not naturalists, per se, but we do have Paul’s words, “Doth not even nature itself teach you…”(1Co 11.14). God while you live, allows you to rebel, but at death an awful payment starts for revolting against Him.

“…Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just,

whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things…of good report…”

Are you a reader 1 ? Are you allowing God to guide what you read? If you’re love fiction allow me to wave a flag. (My BA is in Literature, MA in Biblical Literature). I’d encourage you to totally avoid sci-fi: some is satanic, some borders on darkness/mythology, all is limited only by a writer’s imagination. There are “once-upon-a time” tales that un-realistically end “lived happily ever after” – no one lives “ever after” – we die. There’re novels which could’ve happened “in a village faraway” but didn’t. Fiction is easy to read & easy to write (IMO). It’s a lower (if not lowest) form of writing. Limit it for soul health.

– eab, 1/7/19

“God cannot be for & against the same thing at the same time.”
– Abraham Lincoln, quoted by George B Kulp

Are you a reader 2 ? If stories appeal I strongly encourage reading biography & autobiography. These (unless fictionalized) are real & may have areas you can/should emulate them. Biographies are often penned by admirers who have “X” on a pedestal. They may omit the subject’s “sins” or at least give them little room. Occasionally a hater will pen a biography. Both the super positive & the super negative biography should be read with a “grain of salt” & a dash of pepper.

– eab, 1/7/19

“Pentecostal power is to be had today at Pentecostal prices;

no more, no less.”

– George B Kulp /Voice fr. Eternity/

Are you a reader 3 ? The second category is autobiography. It’s a man/woman giving their life narrative. If you knew them (or knew of them) you may find little facts & bits of their history interesting. As a biographer may be less then honest, the autobiographer is not above temptation, especially if he is writing with “publication” in mind. Holy souls may include too much details. And proud hearts too many accolades, boring readers. But considering the drawbacks, no one knows their life-story better than they do. – eab,1/7/19

Lev 20.7

“Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy:

for I am the LORD your God.”

Are you a reader 4 ? Regarding autobiography & biography, as a man headed, into eternity, allow me to suggest carefulness in selection. Hollywood characters, sports heroes, politicians, criminal bios (& auto-bios.) abound. Do not permit too much “tripe” into your mind. Instead seek stories of great christians. Some lived centuries ago, some recently. Some were evangelicals, some holiness people. Some served as ministers/missionaries, some were farmers, entrepreneurs, Bible ladies, & you-name-it. – eab, 1/7/19

“Cannons & firearms are cruel & damnable machines,

I believe them to have been the direct suggestion of the devil.”

– Martin Luther/Table Talk/

Are you a reader 5 ? Some of us are “born finishers” i.e. we carry a project to its completion (or have plans to finish it “someday” J) Please, fellow readers get the backbone to NOT finish a book when you see it going the wrong direction. “But it’s a part of her/his series.” That’s next to nothing if the book is polluting your mind. If you’re a child of God, the Holy Spirit may nudge you to stop reading a book, an article, stop watching a you tube & what do you do? You obey.

– eab, 1/7/19

“The predictions of the apocalypse are accomplished already

as far as the white horse.”

– Martin Luther >> food for thought <<

Are you a reader 6 ? Year ago – probably in the 60-70’s – I took a stand to not read a fictional book with four-letter words. (I’ve made 1 or 2 exceptions, one being a book Lincoln recommended that was being used at Hobe.) There are millions of fictional books – I do not need to waste my precious time reading a writer who made his make-believe characters say bad words. (This is not my rule for non-fiction.)

Joh 3.7

“Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”

Don’t get the idea that if you die for the “right cause” you go to heaven. The leaders of causes (religious, military, “social justice”) may – knowingly/unknowingly – give you that impression. It is absolutely false. Many a “martyr” is in perdition. The devil doesn’t care for what cause you die, as long as you don’t believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Team? The word “team” isn’t in the Bible. (Its use in church circles is an indication of how much the world has infiltrated the church.) God the Father, God the Son, & God the Holy Spirit call & use Individuals. We’re not saved as a “team,” we won’t be judged as a “team,” nor go Up or down (for eternity) as a “team.” “…The dead…were judged EVERY MAN according to their works”(Rev 20.13). [emphasis eab]
