Rev 22.1 +

Rev 22.1

“And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal,

proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.”

“…Doubtfulness of God’s providences…murmuring…proud & evil imaginations… anger…

all desires for…sinful pleasures…draw the heart from God.”

– H A Baldwin, /Holiness…Human Element/

“I just love So-n-So’s novels.” Is he/she a Christian?  “Well, they talk a lot about God, have no curse words (nor sex scenes) & speak of moral values.”  Those are good, as far as they go. A writer who is truly Christian will have a scene(s) where he turns his reader’s attention to the Prime Person of Christianity – Christ. We’re can be too gullible about “christian authors.”

– eab, 1/28/19

“You can never judge a man’s experience either by the position he holds

or the esteem in which he is held by others.”

– H A Baldwin /Holiness…Human Element

I REMEMBER

Wandering Ohio’s woodlands

All alone and unafraid.

Getting my first check for working,

Such a “grown-up” way to get paid. [1]

Staring at the dorm-room ceiling

City-lit — where I was used to dark.

Seeing Cincy from the Tower,

Playing tennis in the park. [2]

Eating cookies, drinking hot drink,

After door bells, looking for a “winner.”

Smelling turkey strong in Tuesday’s air;

Preparing for Hilltop’s big day dinner.

– eab, Feb. 1993

Col 3.17

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,

giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

LONG POST. Perhaps you’ve heard that schools have “dumbed down” our children but lacked proof. There’s a little. I have McGuffey’s Readers, Revised Edition (last date, 1920), First – Sixth. I opened the Third at random this PM. At the end of Lesson XLI “Ray and his kite” are Definitions.– Dāy’drēams, /vain fancies/. Com păn’ions, /playmates, friends/. At těmpts’, /trials, efforts/. Groups, /several together, small assemblages/. Sweeps, /rapid movements in the line of a curve/. Cŏm’et, /a brilliant heavenly body with a long, fiery tail. De tẽr’mined, /concluded, resolved/. Hŏb’ḡŏb lin, /an ugly, fairy or imp/. [this is missing a line _ under the “s” on daydreams & companions (“z” sound) & a double dot  ̤  under the “o” in groups. Could not find these in symbol list.] The Third reader was used by 4th-5th graders. The title for Lesson XLII? “BEWARE OF THE FIRST DRINK.” If you home school, consider these Readers.

“Success is the progesssive fulfilment of the will of God for your life.’”

– G. R. French, sermon, 10/17/00

Cos·met·ic [käz-ˈme-tik]. It may interest that my thesaurus shows “makeup” as its synonym. It lists “superficial” as an alternative meaning for cosmetic. Superficial has the following synonyms: surface, shallow, phony, external. And it lists “insincere” as an alternative meaning for “superficial.” How wonderful that holy women (younger, older or in the middle) do not need “cosmetics” with these definitions (nor with their high price tag.) – eab, 1/31/19

“satan is not expecting to win against God.”

– G. R. French, sermon, 5/17/00

[1] Somerset’s band director hired Keith; I worked also.

[2] Reading Rd. & Wm.H.Taft, used, wooden rackets but nice.
