Gen 46.7 +

Gen 46.7

“His sons & his sons’ sons with him, his daughters & his sons’ daughters

& all his seed brought he with him into Egypt.”

“Oh, I don’t want to go to Hell & live with the cowards of the centuries.

The fearful will be there.”

– J Wesley Adcock, sermon “If I Make My Bed in Hell”

# 1 Between 9:30 & 10 the Hausman’s arrived at our bungalow with crock-pots to plug in & other food.. We all left for church at 10 something. When we arrived the Dickinsons were already there. It was pure pleasure to see 2 Hausman girls & 2 Dickinson girls playing their violins for the congregational hymn & offertory. The Hausmans provided a special & the Dickinson Family sang. I told one of the church ladies I was rich – rich in grandchildren. Nice to worship with 13 (daughters, son-n-laws, & grands).

# 2 Martha & I had set up our oak table (bought used in Cincy c.1964 & brought home in Dwight Luther’s Chevy-my VW was too small) with its 6 leaves & an overflow table. Our girl’s families fixed & brought all the food. It was a crowded but enjoyable time. Garlic chicken, Potato casserole, Tossed salad, Green beans, Rolls, Berry pies, & “the necessary” J Chocolate cake. Good food, better fellowship. Thank you, dear family for all the bother to prepare & pack the food, all the way up here.

# 3 The occasion? Our oldest s-n-l got a year older on Feb. 11, as did yours truly; same date but one in ’69, other ’43. Last couple of years (if I remember correctly) we went their direction but it was nice they brought the family (but Natasha) to visit, howbeit briefly, with us. Both families left to go back to church in Pleasant Plain & Phillip to speak there that night. Moma/Gram & I were happy to see you ALL. A bunch of cows? (A herd.) A bunch of lions? (A pride.) A bunch of grandkids? (A WEALTH of grandchildren.)

“God created man & woman to have an affinity between the two in the fear of God,

in the light of holiness, until He could smile upon them in holy wedlock.”

– J Wesley Adcock, sermon “If I Make My Bed in Hell”

It’s easy to be modern

When you live in a modern day,

To let the old slip from you

To let it slide far away.

All that’s “progress” is not progress;

All was not bad in yesterday.

How we need a fresh revival

Oh, how we need again to pray.

The grand old Book has been replaced

By religious movies and plays.

Great revivals were not products

Of “seminars,” or picnic days!

Praying has a way of making

A small canoe into a barge.

And also shrinking those “big” things

Till they aren’t quite as large.

“A mentally insane person will treat fact as fiction & ficiton as fact;

morally insane people do the same.”

– R G Flexon, sermon “After This”

Deu 4.9

“Only take heed to thyself & keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen & lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons & thy sons’ sons”

“If your children have never heard you pray,

seek God, set up a family altar, & go to praying.”

– R G Flexon, sermon “After This”

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful & just to forgive us our sins,

& to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

“We are aware that mercy endures a long time; but we also know that mercy ceases

& that one can cross the dead line, if he continues to resist the Spirit’s pleading.”

– J B McBride /Knowing God/

Some very confused people want to call right, wrong. Probably more people see (or think they see) wrong as right. Many of this latter class once knew wrong, as wrong, but after seeing peers having such “fun” doing this wrong or that, they changed their minds, started practicing wrong, & in order to salve their conscious began to call this indulged wrong “right.” Please Friend, stopping lying to yourself before you are totally lost – eternally lost.

– eab, 2/9/19

“…We who are Christians are expected by & by to be like Jesus,

not only in one particular but in every particular…”

– J B McBride /Knowing God/

I LOVE

“I love my house, I love my car,

I love my sport, I do.

I love my wife, I love my kids,

But I don’t care about you.

“I love my job, I love my club,

I love “me country grand.”

But I care little about the lost

The lost of heathen’s dark land.”

– eab, 2/16/86

Jam 5.20

“…He which converteth the sinner from the error of his way

shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.”

A change is coming. This change will be phenomenal & final. It’s coming to/for you, to your family members, to your every friend, in fact, to each human on the face of the earth. It’s. Called. Death. Perhaps a grandparent’s funeral was your first memory of Death. A few years/decades & Death took a sibling or a parent. We were very much on the “outside” of these. Soon Death will be personal for us, for you for me. Allow yourself to think about Death – yes, *make* yourself think about it. If heaven’s saints have a memory of earth I do not know. Hell’s sinners do. “…Prepare to meet thy God…”(Amo 4.12)

“When you get close enough to God, He’ll show you things.”

– Ken Thompson, IHC, 4/17/18

Let me remind youth – your parents had access to a wonderful, earthly information source – an unabridged dictionary. It was more reliable perhaps than many online sources. They also had access to a wonderful, heavenly information Source – The unabridged Holy Bible. This is in every way more reliable than any human ideas about eternity. And – good news – these two sources are also available to you. Use them!

“I exhort therefore that, first of all, supplications, prayers,

intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;”

“Joseph couldn’t fit the pieces together.

But I’ll tell you what he did do – He trusted God.”

– S D Herron /From the…Herron/

On a practical $ide – the habit of men renting tuxedos & shoes for weddings (IMO) needs to be updated. They’re so expensive, have only a one-time use, & there’s the bother of having to return them in x hrs. Instead let all the men buy quality matching black or charcoal-gray suits. These can be used for yrs. Good black shoes are needed in his wardrobe. What is paid in rental fees will make a good start on a suit & shoes.

P.S. This could be applied at junior/senior banquet times & lessen that expense.

– eab, 2/15/19

“God could trust Job in His silence.

He wanted to know why, but he still believed God when he didn’t know why.”

– S D Herron /From the…Herron/

  1. E. E.

For centuries paper and ink,

Have been a blessing or have caused a “stink.”

We’ve not failed to use those two,

Because the devil used them too.

Now the blog, email – the “eword”

Are new ways to share God’s Sword

Media has caused a change,

Evangelism has a greater range.

– eab, 2/14/13

Christians have a right to vote (unless the Holy Spirit checks you) but we can’t rely on politics. We have a right to opinions on societal issues: phone calls, letters, signing petitions but we can not make these our hope. We have a right to own unregistered arms but have no right to kill a fellowman. Christians have a right to meet with those of like precious faith but assemblies are to worship the King of kings, not to unseat a present “king” (1Ti 2.1-2, 1Pe 2.13). This world is not our home!

– eab, 2/15/19

1Jo 1.7

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another

& the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”

“If you shut up the damper of confession,

you will smother the fire of sanctification”

– Orlow Webb, sermon 10/30/85

It is entirely up to God what Light He sheds on your pathway & mine. And, in a sense, it’s entirely up to us if we walk in our God-given Light. Your Light may not necessarily be mine nor my Light your. But our individual Light, Friend, is SUPER serious – walking in Light is the only way to have perfect spiritual freedom now & His precious blessings forever. O Brother, O Sister, I urge us all to WALK in His Light! – eab, 2/14/19

“Piety…is more concerned about deeds than words.”

“Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not:

whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.”

“The glory of God brings a burden for souls.”

– Glenn Griffith “The Presence of the Glory”

A section of what’s commonly called “Christianity” insists that you can’t live without sinning. They have 100’s of churches, many colleges, a presence on the media. They’re wrong. Our Lord’s disciple wrote, “Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil”(1Jo 3.7-8a). Friend, please believe Bro. John. Do NOT believe preachers / teachers (ancient or 21st century) who spout that Christians sin.

– eab, 2/13/19

“If you are troubled about the commandments, if you are troubled about standards,

& troubled about convictions you can have the remedy. The Glory of God is the remedy.”

– Glenn Griffith “The Presence of the Glory”

A man wishes to be organized

When he sees how time flies,

And wished that he, could three men be,

And stretch the day to a week;

Till he begins to realize,

(What he already knows)

He’s only strong, when he is weak;

As he tarries, he goes.

– eab, Feb. ’72

No man can be too masculine. He can be cruel in actions, harsh in words, hateful in attitude – these are not characteristics of masculinity. They come from the carnal heart – which heart can be male or female. Society needs men who are all “man.” No, not all alike, but who talk like, walk like, & pray like men.

– eab, 2/10/19

Mar 10.6

“…From the beginning of the creation God made them male & female.”

“What parents use in moderation the children will take to excess.” – Donald Winter, sermon 7/01/00

Nor can a woman be too feminine. She can become silly in sensitivity, super hard to please, overly demanding in preferences (as she imagines a feminine lady would be) but these suggest selfishness not femininity. Our churches & homes need women who are all “woman” in behavior, conversation, prayer.

– eab, 2/10/19

“A false concept of grace

will be used by the antichrist.”

Joh 9.4 +

Joh 9.4

“I must Work the Works of him that sent me, while it is day:

the night cometh, when no man can Work.” (capitals added)

“Prayer is not prayer until the soul enters into it.”

– Glenn Griffith /I Sought for a Man/

Too many men carried their boyish love of ball over into manhood. Then they installed (yes, similar to a computer) their passion for sports into their son. Brother, you did not do your son a favor – in fact you may have handicapped him. He may have a harder time giving up sports than you did & may fail to be “All for Jesus, All for Jesus”(Asa Hull) because of the trap, the lure of organized sports.

– eab, 2/6/19

“It seems that the thing that people are most afraid of over the country is

that supernatural, unearthly, indefinable, indescribable presence of the Living God.”

– Glenn Griffith “The Presence of the Glory”

If men can make bridge halves start

From opposite river banks

And with blueprint, I-beamed steel

Labor, rivets and welding tanks

Meet them over raging streams

God can bring marriage halves

From divorcement’s cold shore

And with Heavenly blueprint, Love

And will power join them once more

Renewing the home’s lost dreams.

– eab, Feb. 2012

The forces trying to make men less manful are the same menacing manipulators who want women to be masculine. Thank God these creeps haven’t made as much headway in mid-America as they seem (going by pics) to have on the coastal fringes. Sadly such forces appear to have convinced more persons born to be women to more toward mannishness. Train your sons to be all Male. Teach your daughters to be all Female! Their future is at stake.

– eab, 2/10/19

Gen 5.2

“Male and female created he them; and blessed them,

and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.”

“The fact that a man is tempted is not proof that he is sinful…

unfelt trial is no trial, & pain on mind…is no more sin than pain of body.”

– J A Wood /Perfect Love/

“…Men ought always to pray & not to faint”(Luk 18.1) If you admire the mayor of your “burg,” the founder of your company or another leader & were able to meet him for 15 you may have considered yourself blessed. If he invited you to meet him next week for a luncheon you may have “walked on air.” These sentences begin with “if.” God, the Governor of Heaven, earth & sea, invites us to meet with Him everyday – huge contrast: 1- many meetings, huge contrast: mere mortal – Most Holy King of Eternity. – eab, 2/11/19

“Christians are to reform the world

not be deformed by it.”

Rev 10.6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created Heaven, and the things that therein are, and the Earth, and the things that therein are, and the Sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: – God made Heaven, Earth, World # 42

Tis no ordinary night

Tomorrow a birthday looms,

Another year of life and light

And I’m this side the tombs.

What has one year wrought?

Who is better because I lived it?

Where have I the lost, sought?

To what good has live “sieved” it?

Tomorrow, three score plus two *

Of the Biblical three score and ten

Years as cattle, not a few,

Over yonder hill now wend.

Php 2.12c

“…Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”

[ Please, Friend, do not love the 1st part & ignore the last part.]

God has a holy standard. We will meet His standard for /us/ individually, or we’ll answer to Him at judgment. The devil will try to convince you that God is asking too much (“you’re only human”) – satan doesn’t know if it’s too much or not – he’s never been human. Christ has been one of us, Praise the Lord, & He asks no more of us than He knows we can bear (1Co 10.13). – eab, 2/8/19

“Many people have lost the witness of the Spirit

by not pressing after a greater fullness.”

– J A Wood, /Perfect Love/

Marriage Math:

A wife either adds to OR subtracts from her husband.

She either multiples his efforts OR she divides them.

“…I will make him an help meet for him”(Gen 2.18) are serious words –

perhaps much more serious than modernity will admit. – eab, 2/10/19

“Men cannot be public sinners

and then become private saints.”

Act 8.1 +

Act 8.1

“And Saul was consenting unto his death…”

[But soon the murderer was Brother Saul, Act 9.17 ]

“It [sin] pays wages in 3 installments: 1) It kills the conscience, 2) Drys up the fountain of emotion, 3) Breaks the power of resistance.”

– Glenn Griffith /I Sought for a Man/

Have You Killed Someone? God, if you seek His mercy, is able to forgive murder – whether that someone was in the womb, in the war, in domestic violence. Murder is sin but it’s not the unforgivable sin. It’ll keep you from fellowshipping with God & keep you from heaven. See it as it is, & beg Him to forgive. Your forgiveness won’t restore that baby, enemy, or family member but will allow you be a Child of God.

– eab, 2/4/19

“If men are not stirred to love God,

they will trifle until they love something else.”

– Glenn Griffith /I Sought for a Man/

Now and then I see where prankster

Has turned a corner post;

And “Main” becomes “Franklin,”

And “Franklin” “Main” – almost.

Locals know that “Main” is “Main,”

Not turning where miss-signed,

And the turned-street labels

Make them to humor inclined.

But to the traveler on his journey

From his home to city far,

Doesn’t know the sign is wrong

And his day can fully mar

By the miss-labeled street.

He may turn and travel long,

Only to sadly learn

His miles and hours were wrong.

If the devil can spin the signs,

Call that “Narrow” which is “Broad,”

And call the “Broadway,” “Narrow”

Leading folks away from God.

Then satan may see them die,

Die despairing of Calvary’s cost,

Because they turned the wrong corner

And were forever lost.

Preacher, don’t be a prankster,

Turning the sign on the corner post,

“Winning” people by your humor,

Not preaching with the Holy Ghost.

And Traveler, oft check the map,

It the narrow and broad has told.

Remember, the adage is still true,

“All that glitters is not gold.”

– eab, 2/9/06

1Co 5.11

“…If any man that is called a brother be a fornicator or covetous or an idolater or a railer or a drunkard or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.”

“Birds of a feather flock together” (1st appeared in a 1599 dictionary) is a phrase I’ve known most of life. It’s true for bad boys or good boys. It’s true for men & women. And it’s true for ministers & teachers in the embattled holiness movement. See who a man supports, chums with, calls for a meeting or is called by for a meeting or who he quotes & you’ve another example “birds of a feather flock together.”

– eab, 2/9/19

“Let God have your life;

He can do more with it than you can.”

– D. L. Moody

Truth has always existed. It never had a beginning – Christ is truth (Joh 14.6) – He has always existed).

Myths, lies or falsehoods were invented & invented for a reason. Look for that reason & avoid them at all costs.

– eab, 2/9/19
