Luk 21.8 +

Luk 21.8

“…Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ;

& the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.”

When reproached they [the meek] hold their peace…

they will not go to law to defend their rights…”

– Dietrich Bonoeffer, /Cost…Discipleship/

In basketball there’s a fake to the right, then a drive to the left & lay up. In boxing there’s the “playful” jab with the left, left, left, & then a knockout with the right. In war there’s leaking of mis-information meant to look legit, meant to get in the hands of the enemy, so they’ll think the left but the real plan is to capture on the right. If these are “everyday” happenings, what makes you think politicians aren’t doing similarly? Stop swallowing “news” (even that which you want to be true). Christians need discernment.

…They show by every word & gesture that they do not belong to this earth…Those who now possess it [earth] by violence & injustice shall lose it…”

– Dietrich Bonoeffer, /Cost…Discipleship/

Winter’s grip

If you have a gripe with winter’s grip,

Wish to have less snow and frosty dip,

Wish winter to end, end with in a hurry,

Want to have seen the last snow flurry,

Be encouraged. Winter’s begun to slip.

“God did not raise up the Holiness Movement for folks to get B.D.’s, etc.”

– V O Agan, ’55 Conf. Serm.

The very easiest thing upon which you can make a mark if your body. Children & others who do not know better, make ink markings on their skin. Others puncture their ears or nose or lip. It’s harder by far to study (books & otherwise) hour upon hour & “make a mark” on your brain. To impress it with knowledge & better yet wisdom takes manhood/womanhood. Both body & mind go to the grave. It is far, far more important to fellowship after the New Birth with Christ & let Him mark you as His own, let His impressions of Love, Joy, Peace et al, fill your soul forever.

Mat 26.41

“Watch & pray, that ye enter not into temptation:

the spirit indeed is willing but the flesh is weak.”

What are you doing with it? You’re retired. Time you used to spend working & traveling to/from is now “a gift” each week. Has your prayer life increased? Seriously? Time can be compared to money “The more you have the more you spend” – The more time you have, the more you can slather on a hobby, fishing, gardening etc. until you may actually spend less time in prayer. Amen? Ouch? Your church, neighbor, family need you to “pull on heaven” (intercessory prayer) for a movement of God in our day.

“Brethren…we have an enormous task & how foolish for us to foster church programs & picnics rather than to wait on the Lord & be endued with power from on high.”

– V O Agan, ’55 Conf. Serm.
