“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom:

& with all thy getting get understanding.”

“I recognize that no true interpretation

violates the grammar of the text.”

– S D Herron, sermon (uncertain date)

What happened to our schools? #10

Third McGuffey Reader (4th – 5th grade, Rev.,1920) had these Christian words:

Lord, 2 times (pp. 67, 91) Maker (p. 45)     Our Father, 2 times (pp. 90, 127)    Example:

“This birdie is content to sit, Unnoticed on the way,

And sweetly sing his Maker’s praise From dawn to close of day.”

(Lesson XIV, “The Little Bird’s Song” – no author sited)

“Christ was staking everything,

literally everything, on the coming of the Holy Spirit.”

– S D Herron, sermon (uncertain date)

NO WISER

Today is the first day of the rest of your life!

“So what,” the drunk said eyes all black, nose all red,

“Drink and be merry, you’ll soon be dead.”

“Let me worry about that,”

Smirked the youth as he sat

“World owes me a living” He laid on a mat.

“Another day to make money,”

Scrooge replied, not being funny.

“Dollar’s the thing, make piles while it’s sunny.”

So the drunk, the youth, the miser

Go on no sharper, no wiser;

Claiming the day which belongs to the Master.

Act 5.3a

“But Peter said, ‘Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart

to lie to the Holy Ghost…’”

When you see a man being an hindrance to an institution, pray for him. Pray for him to be sanctified (assuming he’s born again) or be removed from it. He’ll have to yield & believe to be filled with the Spirit. He won’t have to do these to be removed; God can disable him, expose his lying life, or allow him to die, rather than further hurt His work. It’s a serious thing to hinder God’s work.

– eab, 3/22/19

“…If he should voluntarily kill himself by refusing to eat & drink

everyone would own that such a one was a rebel against God…”

– Wm Law /Serious Call…/

Young lady – how does the chap, who’s paying attention to you, treat his little sister, brother, or cousin? What does he say about his boss? (Oh, he doesn’t have a job? Drop him today.) His actions toward family & attitude toward authority are indicators of a clean or a carnal heart. – eab, 3/21/19

Young man – how does the gal you think is so sweet, treat her sis, dad or mom? What does she say to you about other girls (those who may be competing for your attention?) Don’t let love (or infatuation) blind you to her heart of selfishness or holy self-less-ness.

– eab, 3/21/19

“Let a clergyman but be thus pious &…he will no more think & talk of noble preferment than of noble eating or a glorious chariot.”

– Wm Law /Serious Call…/
