Gal 5.22-23a +

Gal 5.22-23a

“…The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Meekness, temperance…”

“Before we can get sinners scared of hell,

we will have to get scared as Christians.”

– V O Agan, ’55 Conf. Sermon

An individual told my wife (first-hand info) that they attended “x” church for about 1.5 yrs before realizing it was a “holiness” church. How utterly sad! Apparently in a year & a half, no songs (congregational or special) carried the message of heart purity. It seems no saints testified that once they were proud or struggled with anger, or were jealous but the Holy Spirit removed these & they are so happy that He did. And, most sadly perhaps, the minister(s) did not preach one clear sermon exposing the horrid traits of carnality or extolling Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, etc. – 5/26/19

“What greater enemy could exist than carnality?

How can we serve Him in holiness unless the interior enemy is destroyed?”

– V O Agan, ’55 Conf. Sermon

If you are hungering, you can be fed.

If you’re wandering, you can be led.

If weary, Christ has rest, therefore “a bed.”

Leery of the world? Good! Do as Jesus said. – eab, 5/30/19

God is all powerful – the gov. is pushing to become more powerful.

God sees all – gov. camera’s are seeing more & more of our lives.

God wants us to depend on Him – the gov. wants us to depend on it.

Make sure to obey God. “…We ought to obey God rather than men”(Act 5.29). – 5/26/19

Act 5.29

“Then Peter & the [other] apostles answered & said,

‘We ought to obey God rather than men.’”

Some are convinced that “So-n-So” is a Christian based on their kindness & ignore their life-style, or appearance. Have you not met a guy/gal who is not easily riled? (There are people who were raised or have trained themselves to under-react.) It’s nice to work with “cool” people but such levelness, such consideration doesn’t make them Christian. Every man/woman must be born again, i.e. made a New Creature by the Power of the blood of Jesus Christ. – 5/24/19

“…Is it not reasonable to suppose that a Christian education should have no other end but to teach youth how to think & judge & act & live according to the strictest laws of Christianity?”

– Wm Law /Serious Call…Life/

There is a marked silence in pulpits (church/college/camps) about the Roman catholic system. Once, we heard of their errors. Now, I fear, many youth almost see them as another denomination: Baptist, Methodist, or Presbyterian; they’re far from it. A book that led to this is /Kingdom of the Cults/, Walter Martin & Ravi Zacharias, which doesn’t list the R.C. as a cult. The Roman system calls a man “holy father” – – – what Jesus called God, (Joh 17.11), it believes one must be R.C. to go to heaven, & has many rituals. These point toward cultishness. This is not aimed at any person, but at a false system. – 5/19/19

“…The world by professing Christianity is so far from being a less dangerous enemy than it was before that it has by its favors destroyed more Christians than ever it did by the most violent persecution…”

Heb 4.15 +

Heb 4.15

“…We have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

“…When he [sanctified man] consents to submerge his own personality in the generalities of social religious or denominational conduct, he has consented to his own elimination as a factor in God’s hand for bringing things to pass.”

– H A Baldwin, /Holiness…Human Element/

The strongest Old Testament man, Sampson, was weak with women.

The wisest Old Testament man, Solomon, was dumb about women.

Jesus, strongest & wisest Man/God in the Bible, was tempted “in all points” (Heb 4.15) yet never sinned.

– 5/24/19

“Do not be discouraged [that] average men are…finding fault…keep your special peculiarity sanctified & go ahead…”

– H A Baldwin, /Holiness…Human Element/

THE GLORY OF LIGHT (2 verses of a song)

You know my heart, O Lord, You always know

The source from which all thoughts and wishes flow.

You know my life, naught from Thee would I withhold,

O, let me come, O, let me Lord be bold.

O, let me come and to Thy Father heart

Speak as a child for assurance in the dark.

And when the tests and trials would affright,

Remind me, You, were a pillar of fire by night.

– eab, May 1971

“They have shut themselves out from God & they are doomed eternally to a loneliness that is unspeakable, to a loneliness that is absolutely inexpressible, to a never-ending hopelessness.”

– S D Herron, sermon

You pastor, or teach in a christian school or sing church specials & would be unhappy to be called a rebel against Christ. Yet, the Spirit of God spoke to you about leaving “x” out of your life, He reminded you (more than once?) not to use that word and/or He’s condemned what you watch (in person or on a device) & you’ve not obeying. What is that but rebellion? The devil was kicked out of heaven, Eve & Adam were banished from Eden for disobedience. Please, Friend, stop rebelling. – 5/25/19

Rev 21.8

“…The fearful & unbelieving & the abominable &murderers & whoremongers & sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire & brimstone…”

“Some things God doesn’t want you to share with other people.

They are between you & Him alone.”

– S D Herron, sermon

God *could* make Himself visible to every person on earth. At. The. Same. Time. He has chosen not to. One reason for this is (IMO) so that we will BELIEVE. We can “connect” with Him by faith. Not only can we, we must “…Without faith it is impossible to please” (Heb 11.6a) God.

It matters not the long valley

From which your family hailed,

Nor the salty ship, on ocean lip

In which that family sailed.

It matters not about their grub

Rhubarb or roastin’ ears,

Nor if their shack, was by an old track

In Greek-Roman suburb.

It matters not if long they stood

By slowly sifting sands,

Nor if their soul, was close to a “pole”

In frozen, far, white lands.

Were they “bad” warriors (I hope not)

Who have shed angry blood?

Were they worshipper (not much better)

Whose sword raised a small flood?

Were they farmers who knew the smell

Of soil newly turned?

Or bakers whose bread, the hungry fed,

Light brown, but never burned.

Did they know an ancient wisdom:

Parables and proverb?

Or did they just spurn, such light to learn,

Adjective, noun or verb.

Did your family – ah, there’s no lack.

None mattering, not a single thing,

If they missed salvation.

Brag not of where your family’s been:

Valley, plain or high slope,

If they fled or felt, the angry welt

Of gen’ral or of pope.

~ Ÿ ~Ÿ ~ Ÿ ~ Ÿ ~

Did family know here below

The Lord in His glory?

OH, if they knew, the One the Jews slew,

Tell, tell ALL their story.

You may have influenced someone this AM: your attitude in traffic, a “Good Morning” to a co-worker, a “thought” shared at break. Did this point heaven-ward? Were they what Jesus would have done/said? If you had them to do over would you repeat the same, eliminate it, or double it? “For none of us liveth to himself…” (Rom 14.7a). One day we’ll have our last traffic, our last greeting, share our last thought – how will we be remembered? “…And no man dieth to himself” (Rom 14.7b). – 5/24/19

1Jo 2.28

“And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear,

we may have confidence & not be ashamed before him at his coming.”

Looking for the perfect leader? You’ve found Him in Jesus Christ. Born in poverty, trained to be a carpenter, became the most greatest teacher of His day, healed multitudes of people & fed them too. Yet His Jewish people turned on Him, a disciple committed treason, all His disciples denied or fled & He was nailed to a cross. But even there He redeemed a thief beside Him, assigned John to care for His mother, & forgave those who were killing Him. It gets better. He arose from that tomb, eat fish & honeycomb in His glorified body & ascended to heaven in plain view of His re-grouped disciples. He is coming back to earth & will be King Forever. The Perfect Leader. – 5/24/19

“…It is as reasonable to suppose it is the desire of all Christians to arrive at Christian Perfection

as to suppose that all sick men desire to be restored to perfect health.”

– Wm Law /Serious Call…Life/

So, you are getting married. Sir, will your bride increase her possibility of going to heaven because she marries you? Ma’am, will your man be more likely to die a saint because you will be his wife? Or, will the wear & tear (yes, marriages have such) make you hard to live with? Will “Sue” or “Bill,” if they go to heaven, do it in spite of you, or because of your prayers & encouragement? Amen? Ouch? – 5/24/19

TOPOGRAPHY (2nd song, written,Townsend,TN, driving black 68VW)

I passed a field the other day,

That in summers past

Had always been in hay.

And there I saw it laid open wide

With some gashes that

A plow put in its side.

Brown, yes, reddish brown,

Was the ground,

That the implement of man

Had turned down.

Row after row of little hills,

With valleys and daises,

Thrown in for frills.

Now – the farmer hadn’t planned

To leave those flowers.

As witnesses of nature, brittle towers,

But nature’s not as weak

As may suppose.

And the strongest things

She has she always grows.

The only place I ever saw her was at the bank – she was a teller. I’d guess her sixty-ish, with “black” hair but near her part it was gray. A few days/weeks later I saw the gray strip was wider. After consideration I decided I’d compliment her on going natural. She was doing the right thing but it had to be hard – letting people know that she’d been faking it all this time. It would’ve been easier to have slowly allowed the gray to come in, it would’ve saved present humiliation, would’ve saved who-knows-how much time in dying, & how much money.

I could wish all who dye, would stop before they die. – 5/19/19

In case you don’t know – you’re under no obligation to call a catholic priest “father.” Even if there were no verse against it (there is “And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven” Mat 23.9) he is not *Your* father. He went into the temple

Where you’d think one could look up

But his attitude was humble;

He saw dregs in his cup.

He asked God for mercy;

He beat upon his chest,

Called himself a sinner

(Not better than the rest).

He cast his eyes downward,

They sought the lowly ground,

But God who measures all things,

The simple, the profound,

Liked his honest spirit,

Heard his call and cry

Knew he meant his temple-talk,

Knew it more than “humble pie,”

And justified his soul;

He went back to his own place

With a calm in his heart

And heaven’s smile upon his face.

Friend, the next time you go to meeting,

The next time you’re in church

Avoid petty piousness,

Avoid the highest perch,

Look at God, worship Him

And see yourself contrasted,

As this man of old, did.

His grace has ever- lasted.

June comes. Weddings come. May God bless every young man who is marrying & every young woman who is his bride. I heard of a Bible college instructor, prof. (whatever) who warned his class about married couples having too much sex. Sounded strange to my ears & I think it did to God’s also. Sure. Marriage is more than the marriage bed (bills, adjustments, a continued maturity) but it includes the wonderful God-made act of love. Enjoy each other. Enjoy this new stage in life. Enjoy God more as you two pray & grow closer to Him. God made married sex. (The Bible college guy is not who you think, & he was wrong.)

Seen in life, or seen in death

A mansion of stone or brick, did you say,

Ov’rlooking the point where river meets bay,

With four-storied garrets, room for four cars,

And a high domed-room to study the stars,

A half-mile lane and personal tennis court,

Kentucky-fenced knoll were horses cavort,

An indoor pool with a European tub,

All this close, to the golf-course, country club?

The finest mansion you have ever seen,

With yard upon yard – green trimmed in lush green,

The highest castle on a curved mountain spine,

With stair cases, great room, stones to entwine

Or glorious condo above pure beach,

With “condiments” in commodious reach,

All appear huts, caves, shelters poorly made,

When death reveals truth, and life starts to fade.

Books in Prayer Closet # 1. The most important Book to have in your Secret Closet is the Good Book. Have a straight-edge & pens. Red for one line of truth, blue for another. Or use a highlighter to mark special passages [check highlighter on last page; see if it “bleeds-through” – depends on paper or highlighter or both]. If praying becomes a bit hard you may want to read the Bible & then take heed to what the Spirit shows you in such times.

Col 3.16

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching & admonishing one another

in psalms & hymns & spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

Books in Prayer Closet # 2. The 2nd most important Book for is a hymnal. Be willing to mark it also. You could read a hymn to start or one to finish – you might go on for a time from the “fuel” of it. If you are struggling to pray, start reading some hymns. (I’d encourage you to read them in order & leave a marker to use next time.) BTW you don’t have to be able to read music to read the words (really a poem) nor do you need to “know it” to read it. Many hymns were written when pressure was on & that comes through.

Books in Prayer Closet # 3. Why not take a notebook to the closet? It could hold a prayer list. God “Paints” with Light

God made solid forms – they appear left and right

Hill, mountain, stone, rocks, shrub and tree

Then he splashes them with varied light

Till same-ish-ness is lost in variety.

He made more mobile forms – apparent to sight

Waves which roam the sea, clouds the sky

Different they look today than last night

Light glances on low tide or up on high.

On his firm forms He “paints” – with brushes slight

They are light or dark at His supreme will

And sea or sky look dull or quit bright

By the light, His light He allows to “spill.”

Reasons some consider suicide:

1.) they’ve committed a bad sin. – Don’t forget Jesus Christ saves sinners. (Only ones he saves!)

2.) they want people to feel sorry for them. – “I’ll   show ‘em.” A very stupid decision

3.) they have horrible pain. – Live one day at a time.

There are no GOOD reasons to consider suicide. None. They are all selfish.
