“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.

If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

“We get in trouble when we do not take the Bible [for] what it says.”

– G R French, sermon, 6/3/01

29 of 46 “…Pride & arrogancy…do I hate”(Pro 8.13).

Jer 49.16 Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the PRIDE of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.

“There is no fully life than the life given fully to God.”

– G R French, sermon, 2/19/97

Someday, life as for years we’ve known it,

Will all be gone in the twinkling of an eye.

The seed will grow just where we’ve sown it,

(For as a tree falleth so shall it lie)

And as a man liveth, be it good or evil,

As a man liveth, so shall he die. – eab, July ’74

Can a man, a mere man, a lowly mortal, please God? Oh, hallelujah, yes. By His grace He will help us to please Him. God made us human & fully understands man’s limitations. He did not make carnality – it has roots in satan, therefore God wants to eradicate it. Humanity He can excuse, carnality He can remove.

– 1/8/19

2Ti 3.13

“But evil men & seducers shall wax worse & worse,

deceiving & being deceived.”

Not married yet? That’s good – – – if you’re still addicted to sin. Living above sin is the best state to be in before dating or becoming engaged. It will allow the Spirit to lead you who to ask to be your wife; or to whom to say yes or no to being a wife. And – – – settling it to be all God’s will make you a better Mate for all of married life.

– 7/15/19

“Carnality…appears as envy…jealousy…pride…selfishness…stubbornness…all traits of carnality are in every heart in germinal form.”

– Warren McIntire

Those who rule hollywood (disney & ilk) have made a highly artificial “world.” Men/women used as “stars” are pretenders – maybe better at fakery than another but still NOT real. They’re willing to act out falseness (4th wall is not seen) for fame & fed notes. (If no fame, if the pretenders got “fast food” wages, they wouldn’t do the degrading things they do.) To make their make-believe site seem legit, the produces give themselves honors: “best actor” “best movie.” If you’re hooked on this lying industry, you’re helping support a travesty. Stop. Stop watching this low life. Stop. – 7/16/19 WP 7/16/19

“Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not:

whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.”

Do you live each day without sinning? “No one can do that.” (Please see Joh 5.14, 8.11 & 1Jo 3.8, 5.18)

Repeat, do you live each day without sinning?

Would you like to? Jesus died to liberate from slavery to sin.

– 7/15/19

“Man, if your wife knew you as God knows you, would you be ashamed to look her in the face? Woman, if your husband knew you as God knows you would you blush to be around him?”

– R G Flexon

The closer a man gets to God the clearer he begins to think. And as he thinks he sees that much of what the world (& the worldly church) would have us label “innocent” is NOT innocent. You should question the idea (for you & especially for your impressionable child) of 1.) an “innocent” game of cards, 2.) an “innocent” pool table, 3. an “innocent” wager on when/what/how ____  you name it. – 7/14/19

“We find that morally insane people get excited over trifles

but never over serious realities.”

– R G Flexon

You’ve chosen an easier way?

God allows you that privilege, today.

But tomorrow – when seeds begin to grow

He’ll also allow you to reap what you sow. – eab, 7/15/19

“Jesus can…lay hold of old carnality & pull it out…He can take out the root of bitterness,

 the pouts, mutters, fuming, fussing…”

– J B McBride

Never, never allow satan to try to control your life with numbers: not your Age, nor your Weight, Height, Account Balance, IQ, etc. Your name written in the “…Lamb’s Book of Life” (Rev 21.27) is much more important than any & ALL numbers with which the devil will try to discourage you.

– 7/15/19

Ps 119.130

“The entrance of thy words giveth light;

it giveth understanding unto the simple.

“You cannot convert the ‘old man’ you must get him killed.”

– J B McBride

What’s your system of memorizing Scripture? What? You don’t have one? That helps explain why you don’t have more of It in your heart. Explore the options which most appeal to you. Select 1-3 to try. Experiment to see which seems to work best. “Thy word have I hid in mine heart…”(Psa 119.11) does not happen “by accident.” Apply yourself to learning Scripture-by-heart; you’ll be glad you did.

Isa 65.17 +

Isa 65.17

“For behold, I create new heavens & a new earth: &

the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.”

Let your “art” be God’s art, above you, beside you, below you. When you admire God’s creation you are indirectly admiring God who made it – when you admire man’s art you are indirectly admiring man. God is – at this very moment – “sculpturing” a mountain rock, an island shoreline, sand dunes by the dozens. His artistry has been in action from the morning of creation & probably will never stop. I love Him & His art.

“An old fashioned revival of the witness of the Spirit [as Wesley emphasized]

is needed in the Holiness Movement.”

– R G Flexon

God arranged that certain positions in culture & church are not open to women. Yet He left open to women one of the most powerful ranks on the face of the earth – being a Woman of Prayer. It’s a hidden position so has little appeal to the carnal heart but, O, how the church needs you, dear lady, in your prayer closet!

– 6/15/19

“You & I are starting a cycle of influence that will never stop until the judgment…I am tremendously concerned about my influence.”

– R G Flexon

Too busy with velvets and materials of worth,

Too busy with pleasant little islands of mirth,

Too busy doing the “duties” of earth,

Too busy for Pretty, Baby Jesus.

Too busy in commerce and trading of stocks,

Too busy in making and watching the clocks,

Too busy storing silver behind big locks,

Too busy for the Pre-teen Jesus.

Too busy buying and selling fishing boats,

Too busy sowing and reaping barley and oats,

Too busy sewing second and third coats,

Too busy for a Preaching Jesus

Too busy getting the best rooms at the feast,

Too busy adjusting to ever spreading yeast,

Too busy to care for the little and the least,

Too busy for the Prophetic Jesus.

Too busy calling others to mourn or dance,

Too busy lustily casting the side-ways glance,

Too busy “counting chickens” in advance,

Too busy for Pronouncing Jesus.

And when we’ve sowed all the wild stuff we can sow,

And we’re reaping it row after 100-fold row,

And sin finally has lost its false tinsel and show,

We may find the Christ for whom time was never made

Has left us. We won’t be too busy in the tomb’s shade.

– eab, Jul. ‘05

“All converted people want holiness whether they understand it or not

& they will get it somewhere if they do not backslide.”

– J B McBride

Why do you try to control your hair color? (You’re not succeeding – roots tell on you). Some women (evangelical/“holiness”) Cut, Curl & Color. Some holiness women don’t cut. Some don’t curl. But they (men too?) Color. Why? “Well, if I were to be perfectly honest, I don’t want to appear as old as I am.” And – – – why is that? Ashamed of the years God’s given you? You can save yourself (your husband) many dollars by allowing God to color your hair as He wants. God has White Hair (Dan 7.9).

– 7/11/19

Luk 6.25

Woe unto you that are full For ye shall hunger

Woe unto you that laugh now For ye shall mourn & weep

“Fighting holiness comes largely from wrong teaching.

The heart that is converted hungers after God & holiness.”

– J B McBride

Something is to be said for accidental humor: the un-intended pun, that unplanned “event” which is truly funny. Enjoy it & move on. The same with the ability to laugh at yourself; smile/laugh & move on. The Bible promises laughter later (after we weep, Luk 6.21), so don’t make it being funny your present goal, nor ever pay to hear a humorist, even a so-called “christian” one.

Joh 14.26 +

Joh 14.26

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things & bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

“Mentally insane people are always confused about time & eternity…but you can…procrastinate…& think it is perfectly all right…”

– R G Flexon, sermon

28 of 46 “…Pride & arrogancy…do I hate”(Pro 8.13).

Jer 48.29 We have heard the PRIDE of Moab, (he is exceeding PROUD) his loftiness, and his arrogancy, and his PRIDE, and the haughtiness of his heart.

“If a man were to try to build a ladder to reach the moon he would be considered mentally insane; but morally insane people are trying to build…ladders of good works, church membership & morality to get them to Heaven.”

– R G Flexon, sermon

  1. B. V. Jr.

I saw a man’s praying place;

A holy spot it seemed.

The wooded hills were to its face,

Where the orb’s first glory beamed.

Atop a ridge, beneath oak,

Beside pines with boughs entwined,

His tears the forest floor did soak.

Kneeling there, likewise,

God’s Spirit joined mine. – eab, July ’77

“The world’s going to end tomorrow!” Probably not. “Should I make preparation for the world to end?” Though no reader may actually be alive when the world “ends,” we should definitely be prepared for a time (distant or near) when either God sends a phenomenon, or man will manipulate economics & a hard time descends on a small or large part of earth. Plant that garden (“It’s July.” I know – find what may still mature. Better have turnips as nothing.) Save the apples or other items you glean. Store in a root cellar, can, dehydrate, freeze or find other ways to preserve foods.

Rev 22.17

“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come.

And let him that heareth say, Come.

And let him that is athirst come.

And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”

Holiness churches/denominations are being too influenced by our schools. Our schools are being too influenced by school men. And the school men were/are being influenced by the universities/seminaries they attended. Oh, for a revival of Holy Ghost leadership & power – on campuses & off. – 7/11/19

“The claim of the Bible is that it is absolutely sufficient & will not tolerate any additions or subtractions from mankind.”

– T A McMahon

“You married up” gets said as a compliment to a man’s wife or as a tease to him. If in fact sir, she loves you, would do anything for you, tells others what a great guy you are AND loves God more, you really did Marry Up, regardless of her family name/wealth or lack thereof. If theologians are correct in assessing that we Christians are the Bride of Christ – – – that is the ultimate act of Marrying Up. And, Friend, we *all* can enjoy such, if we Obey & Trust with all our hearts.

– 7/12/19

“…Jesus…rendered the Temple & the priesthood obsolete.”

– John Fletcher, /Works 3/

27 of 46 “…Pride & arrogancy…do I hate”(Pro 8.13).

Jer 13.17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your PRIDE; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD’S flock is carried away captive.

“The books of Moses are chiefly historical;

the epistles of St. Paul chiefly doctrinal.”

– John Fletcher, /Works 3/

apple or  corE ?

Which would you rather be

The apple or the core,

Bright and shiny to the eye,

Then eaten and heard of no more?

Or bearing for the future,

Seeds for the next crop & tree,

An apple or the core,

Which would you rather be?

– eab, 7/10/13

If you’re a single man from a broken home who’s dating a girl from an unbroken home, you should become a serious student of what the NT teaches about marriage. Your parent’s failure to stay married isn’t your fault (never allow satan to “saddle” you with this) but it does make you vulnerable. The devil may tell you (after marriage when you & your wife disagree) “Dad & Mom couldn’t make it, guess I can’t either.” The devil is a liar. Your marriage can work, with the Lord’s help. But it will help you, your wife, & her parents, if you after study, are firmly convinced that divorce is never, repeat Never, an option.

Pro 18.22

“Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing

& obtaineth favor of the LORD.”

My wife (unlike many ladies) doesn’t mind telling her age. If you consider 7 the perfect number, today she has 7 decades, + 7 yrs on this, the 7th month. Our first date was at a college function in Feb. 1959. Something was funny – & if you know me you know I have loud laugh. She’d probably heard it on classroom floor or the dining hall but it was the 1st time she been seated right beside such noise. She was a bit startled but we had a 2nd date & – – – I’m still privileged to still date this lady. She’s been a great wife, a fine mother, a good cook, etc. Love you, Babe as you enter this new yr of your life. And wish you all the Blessings of heaven!

– 7/10/19

“The enemies of the Gospel have come into the church as angles of light. Infiltration & espionage have been successful…posses[ing] the field by…pleasant phrases & deceptive use of Christian terminology.”

– Carl McIntire

Parents: What do YOU do when your child throws you a new “may I” question? (One you never expected or didn’t expect it yet.) 1.) Give an automatic “no.” 2.) Give an automatic “yes” – with your mind pre-occupied with your phone conversation/text. 3.) Say, “I’ll have to think & pray about that.” Then seriously seek what God wants you to do. Parenting is SERIOUS business.

“The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead,

she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.”

Dad, if you have no manual skill to pass on to your son, I’d encourage you to prayerfully chose a trade or skill you’d like to master & you two learn it together. “I’d be embarrassed.” Possibly. But would it not be better to be a little embarrassed when he is 8, as to have taught him nothing when he leaves home at 18? Or chose (again with prayer) a skill in which he’d like to be competent & you learn it with him. You’ll make mistakes, but even those (if you’re able to laugh at yourself) can be memory makers. – 7/3/19

“Philosophers, unable to guide mankind to true happiness,

are vainly searching after it themselves.”

– John Fletcher, /Works 3/

My wife & I returned early Monday afternoon from staying with her mother several days so her sister & b-n-l could attend Camp Meeting at Pell City. Also because Linda Bragg, who’s a great help to my m-n-l, took her elderly dad, Bro Baker, to the same camp. Sooo grateful for a safe trip down mid crowds of cars. And happy also for a safe trip home. Left early to beat the heat as our car AC is not running right. This also gave us less traffic. Came home to a garden which God watered. Picked small basket of snap peas (enjoyed a few for lunch) & several green beans from the earlier plants. Praise the Lord. 7/9/19

“…It is necessary to eradicate pride from the heart & to subdue the irregular appetites of our degenerate nature. This is undoubtedly the most difficult task to be accomplished in life…”

– John Fletcher, /Works 3/

The water below me is “coffee, with cream.”

But the water out there is blue, it would seem.

Maybe beauty is not always in the eye;

Sometimes it’s a reflection of God’s perfect sky. – eab, July ‘96

“He said…‘Are you going to persist in the ministry without the Divine preparation…?’

Sanctification makes you meet for the Master’s use & prepares you for every good work…”

– J B McBride

The amount of “skin” I see (in pics & in person) on those attending careful churches, doesn’t predict a bright future for the holiness movement. “Preacher, it’s more than clothing!” Of course it is. But, think about this, a desire to wear worldly styles (on any but new converts) suggests a deeper, more serious problem. Please die out to this world & make every preparation to enjoy a holy heaven. – 7/9/19

Rev 6.11

“…White robes were given unto every one of them & it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season…”

“One can be joyful, happy, & congenial; but there is no place where we can be trifling,

light & funny & live in this inner-circle with Jesus.’”

– J B McBride

Jesus did Not say, “…Love the Lord thy God…” (Mar 12.30) with Most of thy heart, Nor with 90% of thy soul, Nor with almost-all of thy mind, Nor 99% of thy strength. He called for all, All, ALL, A L L. Is this a reality, my Friend, in your life? In mine? “Amen” or “O, me” – which will it be?  – 7/9/19

Stop going into debt. “When?” Now! This July 2019. If you can’t pay off the balance when the credit card is due, don’t place buy it. “But I NEED it.” Save for it. Buy it next month. (By then, you may’ve found it at Good Will for pennies-on-the-dollar, been given it by a friend, or figured out you don’t need it afterall.) Learn to say “No” to yourself. Learn to say “No” to your wife. Learn to say “No” to the kids. They do NOT have to have everything the “Jones” or “Rodriquez” family has. Have you tried to make one? Tried to invent a way around this? Or have you prayed to be content? – 7/3/19

  1. Ever tried to see, to imagine, to grip,
  2. This thing called “Eternity” – beyond time’s lip,
  3. Ever thought what God was doing in the past?
  4. Reading. Reading what? He knows all – first-to-last.
  5. No human (limited as we are) to earth-time, earth-space,
  6. In any way can grasp God’s Purpose, Creation, Grace.
  7. Tomorrow passes us. “Timeless” we speak of but do not know
  8. Yet God here, everywhere lies beyond time’s narrow flow. – eab, 7/5/12

Don’t accept labels opponents try to stick on you. We’re not “protestants” (that’s a label). We’re believers in Christ & His Word, similar to thousands of His followers who never were a part of the catholic system. We’re not “homophobes.” We’ve had the good sense to follow the Biblical teaching: one man, one wife for life. We’re not “anti-immigrant.” We’re anti /illegal/ immigrant. We’re not “hoarders.” We know enough to save for a winter, a sever storm, a dry spell, a depression, etc. – 7/3/19

“It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle,

than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

A female saint exceeds the world’s “lady.” Things don’t have to be perfect (décor, atmosphere, etc.) for her to act perfectly. She always dresses modestly (even when hard at work), always sits like a lady, & she helps make others at ease. She is the product of the Holy Spirit’s Finishing School. – 7/5/19

“What church or congregation has any respect for a minister who trims his preaching

Rejoice. The perfect world maybe right-a-round-the-corner. For some of you it could start within a week. While your family weeps, missing your saintly presence, heaven will be rejoicing: another Brother, another Sister has made it to his/her eternal home exactly for what they had lived for years. – 7/5/19
