Isa 55.6
“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found,
call ye upon him while he is near:”
Only one person can keep you from believing in God Almighty. Only one person can keep you from believing His Holy Word. Only one person can keep you from receiving Eternal Life through obedience to the promises of Christ. Who is this powerful person? He is not a president, professor, a pastor, even a parent – YOU are that powerful person. Stop blaming others & Get/Stay right with God. He died for you! -8/9/19
“…Be not moved from your steadfastness either by names or numbers.
To judge of truth by popularity is absurd.”
– John Fletcher, /Works I/
You have two eyes? Praise God – some have one or none. Glasses? Be glad for them too.
You can hear (without hearing aid or even with one)? – Be grateful, today.
You have a sense of smell? Great! That so enhances the joy of eating.
You can speak – have a dear friend whose vocal cords are bowed – normal speech is gone.
You can feel. It’s simple but it’s a part of life’s pleasure. Praise the Lord. – 8/13/19
“…Can there be a greater sin…than to make the lying devil a god
and the true God a liar?”
– John Fletcher, /Works I/
SAY WHAT?
“I can get along without Jesus,” you say?
Said when skies are blue, not gray.
Said when you breathe without thinking;
Said when your health is not a-sinking.
Said in the confidence of a youthful day;
Said when the things are going your way,
Said in blindness – you’re not really thinking –
A day comes, you’ll find your words a-stinking!
– eab, 8/12/19
“Sin can do no harm until it finds a lodging in the heart.
If you will let sin get once lodged in the heart it will eat its way to the outward life.”
– Uncle Buddy Robinson
Col 3.16
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching & admonishing
one another in psalms and hymns & spiritual songs…”
If you’re devotions are dry (all of us have better & poorer days) allow me to suggest you set aside (temporarily & only temporarily) your Bible & pick up what’s probably the second most inspiriting book in your house – an old hymnal. Allow yourself to read hymn #1 (singing is fine in church, maybe even here but many of the quality hymns were not written to be sung – music was added later). They were poems – aye poems from the heart of a poet/poetess. So, read them. Read them slowly & prayerfully. The Holy Spirit may speak to your heart, to your dryness, before you finish # 2. – 8/13/19
“This destruction of sin must take place in this world, for we read that nothing unholy or unclean or that defileth or maketh a lie or worketh abomination can enter into heaven (Rev. 21:27).”
– Uncle Buddy Robinson
