1Pe 5.6
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God,
that he may exalt you in due time:”
39 of 46 “…Pride & arrogancy…do I hate”(Pro 8.13).
Zep 2.10 This shall they have for their PRIDE, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts.
“…an old-fashioned case of repentance will stop your fighting holiness
& stop your quarreling, & make you upright.”
– Bona Fleming
MEETING HOUSE
They sang the hymns of Wesley & Watts,
Listened to the preacher’s prayers & thoughts
And slipped outside in reverence & in fear;
Knowing the Almighty had been very near. – eab, 8/22/19
“Legalist – a carnal man trying to do right.”
– Paul W Finch
You don’t want a pastor who’s a “good man.” If he’s just a “good man” he won’t know what to do when the Holy Spirit deigns to move in the meeting. Only a holy man (or one seeking holiness) will have the wisdom to step back, as it were & let the sweet Holy Ghost move on Sis So-n-So or bless Bro What-his-name. “Good men” want to be in charge of “the service” – holy men want the Spirit to be in charge. – 8/22/19
1Co 16.3
“And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters,
them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem.”
“Charles Parman & [Wm] Syemour the founders of the Tongues Movement in the U.S.
both accused each other of receiving the gift of tongues from the devil.”
– A L Vess
CHM? No. LONG POST Some clique used the label “CHM” – initials for (in their mind) Conservative Holiness Movement – is it accurate? “H” stands for Holiness. This is the most accurate of the three initials. Thank God for the Biblical teaching & experience of full salvation, perfect love, sanctification – a heart made pure.
CHM? No. “M” Movement. Merriam-Webster Dictionary “movement 2a: tendency, trend… 2b:…an organized effort to promote or attain an end.” This was once accuurate when many people came out of other groups (or were saved “out of the raw”) & established holiness churches, camps, & conventions across the world.
CHM? No. “Conservative” is NOT accurate. “Conservative” is a political word with no Biblical roots. But its opposite, in affairs of state, is “liberal” which (interestingly) is not only Biblical; it is desirable.
What’s probably the most disturbing about glibly saying CHM is: 1.) It’s a label – labels by-n-large are by outsiders & aren’t friendly. 2.) If one accepts “CHM” as intended (I don’t) it allows for a group to be seen as holiness, a group using holiness words but whose lives are no aligned with Biblical purity or practice. -8/22/19
“Bees don’t fight honey –
Christians don’t fight holiness.”
