Rom 1.16 +

Rom 1.16

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:

for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth…”

“Prayer is not prayer until the soul enters into it.”

– Glenn Griffith

The “W” words can help you study your Bible. Ask yourself

WHO – Who is speaking? To whom is he speaking?

WHAT – What is being said? What may be a deeper/second meaning?

WHERE – Where in Bible are you reading?

WHEN – When is this Book?

WHY – Why does the Lord want this in the Bible? – 3/19/20

“It is vain for us to pray while conscious that we have injured another. Let us first make

amends to the injured one before we dare approach God at either the private or the public altar.”

– Jonathan Goforth

The grass has taken a turn for the greener,

And the daffodils have turned up in form.

The crocus is its beautiful self,

And forsythias no longer mourn.

The air is warm with that kind of aire,

That promises a bright tomorrow,

While the frogs in the bogs croak up a tune,

They surely didn’t borrow.

Birds on wing, jubilantly sing,

The advent of spring.

– eab, 3/29/80

When you see a woman in a short skirt in this “show,” when you see another doing “news,” when you see a 3rd, a 4th, a 5th in this “program” or that, it can begin to look “normal.” Same is is true about a guy with holes in his ears or pink hair & the list could go on. Movies, TV, cartoons are changing our perception of normal AS WELL AS our concepts of truth. Please do not move toward more “entertainment” but ask God to help you move toward “Inner Attainment.” Pray as you’ve never prayed before. – 3/26/20

“The sanctified Christian can do what he desires

& at the same time what God requires.”

– V O Agan, HSBC 2/8/98

Rev 21.23

“The city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it:

for the glory of God did lighten it & the Lamb is the light thereof.”

The nature of the carnal nature is to want to be noticed for your clothing, your haircut, your “bingles & bangles,” your vocabulary, your ability to sing, & yes, even to preach.

If this is you, you might not want to go to heaven. Christ is the center there. Now. Good news is Jesus can so sanctify you that you want all the glory to go to God. Seek for the experience of a holy heart. – 3/28/20

no matter what the offense may be nor how often it has been committed.

“…So will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law:

& if I perish, I perish.”

“It is a book that has a marvelous self-authenticating power…Millions of people…will go singing to the stake or exulting to the lion’s den, rather than give up the precious doctrines learned.”

– Henry Warren, ME bishop

Allow your brother (physical or spiritual) to have his opinion. Technically, of course, you can’t stop him. So, “allow” here is primarily to permit it in your mind so that it is not a constant “bone-of-contention” between you. In all truthfulness, the difference may not be that important (if it is not in the Bible) & God (seeing your side, his side [& dare I say it] the right side, may be tolerating you both. J – 3/28/20

“…The less good man is,

the less good the gods he prefers.”

– Henry Warren, ME bishop

Holiness or hell

“Holiness or hell” made some bristle.

Not preaching it, let some men “whistle.”

But oh, if we’re not holy at death,

If carnal, as we draw our last breath,

Hell will be real: fire, sulfur, “sizzle.”

– eab, 3/27/15

Dad/Mom – you have the privilege (by God’s wonderful grace) of making your home an ante-room to heaven. Not in golden streets or angelic sounds but in an atmosphere of Love, Joy, Peace etc. But you’ll have to strive for such; satan will fight you. He, wicked spirit that he is, wants your home to be an introduction to hell; don’t let that happen. – 3/28/20

“…The Roman system encouraged [senses] with its appeal to formulas, rituals, architecture, artwork, vestments, mystical sounds, candles…”

– John A Bjorlik

Mat 22.37

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart

& with all thy soul & with all thy mind.”

“Whereas once the church believed in, spoke of, & practiced the cure of souls,

it has shifted its faith to a secular cure of minds.”

– Bobgans & Mahan

Please, funeral minister – do not try to preach the deceased into heaven. First place – you can’t (we all know this, stop trying). Second place – the family knew him/her a lot better than you did & may consider you a liar. Thirdly – You are hurting the Kingdom of heaven. If anyone thinks they can have carnal fits, or manifest pride, or be as jealous as the dead, they may go to hell & it be partly your fault.

Speak of Christ & of forgiveness to the Living. – 3/28/20

“…Who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom

for such a time as this?”

Has satan convinced you that heaven has a “discount gate”? Did heaven “cost” granny “X” or pastor “Y” all their worldliness but you’re going to get in with your pet sins? Please, Friend, STOP such nonsense. God does NOT have what we used-to-call a “bargain basement.” The very thing you’re insisting you “can’t give up” maybe exactly what He’ll require. The Father knows that you can, Yes, CAN give it up. You must die out to self. – 3/25/20

“If any man love God with all his heart, soul, mind & strength,

the love of the world will have no place in his affections.”

– R G Flexon

The little hamlet caps the hill

And drips into the vales below.

The parting of the farmer’s lands,

The joining of the merchant’s hands,

And down the track a mile or so

The brick plant stands.

The homes of Civil War stand, still,

Along the maple-shaded streets.

The village square is seen to hold,

The General Phil and steed in mold,

Then east on the hill brow one meets

The school place, old.

The worn street bricks, years from the mill,

Blend with the ancient stepping-stones.

Now south a bit, the land is cut,

With rails and timbers, one big rut;

And add to this the church bell tones,

As steeples jut.

These pleasant scenes my mind did fill

(Though miles and years their distance prove)

On living a peculiar day,

Much like those spent in school in May,

In blest Ohio, state I love,

And village far away.

When is the last time you read to your child? A small book at a sitting or perhaps a chapter tonight, another tomorrow night? “I don’t read well.” Let me encourage you to try. Johnny/Susie will forgive your mispronunciation (may not even notice) & generally speaking the more you read aloud the better you’ll do it. Children need to understand that books *store stories* waiting to break from mere pages & live in their minds. Be very careful what you read to them. *Please pre-read every book – some supposed “good” books may have words you don’t want your child to hear. – 3/25/20

“Christians never meet for the last time.”

– V O Agan, Nov 1994

Mat 9.38

“Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest,

that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.”

Are you praying “…The Lord of the harvest that he would send forth laborers into his harvest”(Luk 10.2b)? Are you, am I, praying this v.e.r.y. Scriptural prayer? Praise God, if you are. If we aren’t it may be we don’t see/understand the seriousness of an earlier part of the verse, “The harvest truly is great.” Amen? Ouch? If we pray this often enough & earnestly enough, God may allow one of our children to labor in His harvest field (or for some of us) it might be a grandchild. Please Pray. – 3/27/20

“So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly & gave the sense

& caused them to understand the reading.”

“God’s clock keeps perfect time.”

– E G Marsh

Mom. Teach your daughter how to cook from scratch (not just open boxes/cans). “I don’t know how myself.” Then, why don’t you & your daughter learn together? Teach your girl how to bake. Again be willing to learn with her (be willing to be embarrassed when your cake “falls” & hers doesn’t) More?

Teach the lass how to sew. A young lady who knows how to cook, bake, sew, & keep a clean house will be more equipped for marriage AND to help that marriage last for decades. She needs you to lead. – 3/25/20

“Without revival the glamour

HERE or THERE? (con’t from yesterday)

“Here” is the place for toys great, medium, or small,

“Here” is the arena for games of chance or of ball,

“Here” is the land for buildings spacious and tall,

‘Here” is were all the above stay.

There is, Thank God, beyond the blue clear,

Where the folly of all we’ve held so dear,

Will fully, honestly, in cheapness appear,

And life there is one grand, glorious Day.

There is a place where streets are made of gold,

A land where bodies and souls are never sold,
The hope of the holy; at the same time the bold,

The road to such serenity is called the Narrow Way.

Release your hold on fleeting toys of this short life,

Give in to God, give help to men, stop selfish strife,

Take your children, your siblings, your noble wife,

“You must be born again” & friend, you also may!

– eab, 3/25/08 [stanzas 5-8 of 8]

Dad. Teach your son a skill with which he can earn a living. If you can build, teach him how. If you’re a mechanic teach “junior” what you know. If you’re a farmer/rancher please pass your knowledge of plants & animals on to him. “I do *x* & I hate my job.” I’m sorry – those are not idle words – I feel sorry for anyone who hates their work. Allow me (I know not who may need this) to encourage you to look for & find a job you like. This may sound ideal. It is not. “For with God nothing shall be impossible”(Luk 1.37). -3/25/20

“What India most needs is not Christianity

Tit 2.4

“That they may teach the young women to be sober,

to love their husbands, to love their children”

“There is no body of literature in the world which enjoys

such a wealth of good textual attestation as the New Testament.”

– F F Bruce

Why are many people enthralled with hollywood/disney movies? (Why do you watch them?) They – if innocent – are similar to 6th grade plays. But O, hear it Friend, they’re anything but innocent. The majority (if not 100%) of the producers are sinners & work for satan. If you believe movies are produced for your entertainment you’re naïve. Or just for money you’re still naïve. Wicked men working with satan, have an agenda. Ultimately it is the damnation of you & your family. Please, be done with anything from hollywood/disney: movie, cartoons, clothing, party decorations, memes, jokes, etc. – 3/26/20

Dad & mom (Bless their memories.) didn’t want me playing cards. As I perceive it now, the best way to prevent me gambling with cards later, was to forbid me playing “Old Maids.” I believe that’s correct thinking. I obeyed them & have never gambled in my life. From time to time I see christian parents allowing (maybe even playing) card games. PLEASE, for the sake of your child’s future, pray about removing all card games from you home. I wish you would. – 3/25/20

Here or There?

The next time you check your checking account,

You smile with delight – what a fine amount,

Or you frown, disappointed at the low count,

Remember, it all stays here.

The next time you survey all the surveyor agrees

Is yours to do with, just as you please,

You’ve paid all taxes, paid on fees,

Remember, it all stays here.

The next time you sail on your sleek sailboat,

Your wind in your hair, a sea song in your throat,

Taper the glee, turn down the wild sailor’s gloat,

Remember, it all stays here.

The next time you climb into you favorite fast car,

Or the other one that can travel on one gallon so far,

Or the third that you polish and clean the least mar,

Remember it all stays here. (stanza 1-4 of 8)

– eab, 3/25/08

I prayed for *you* as I drove home yesterday. You attended one of our Bible colleges, married a girl who appeared to be careful living, & you pastored among us. Now for yrs you’ve been a-stranged from the holy way. Will you ever come back? Do you have thoughts of hell 1.) When you’re awake in the midnight? 2.) When you hear of “So-n-So’s death? 3.) When your heart is acting up? You probably can return but you must act soon!!! And – sadly, you may have to come alone. Your wife & kids may not. – 3/25/20

“If you’ve lost [the] joy,

you’ve lost God.”

– V O Agan, 10/11/94, Oelrichs, SD

Mat 11.28

“Come unto me, all ye that labor & are heavy laden,

& I will give you rest.”

Take as strong a stand against a friend/family member’s political views, philosophical ideas, or theological shallowness as you feel like. Write your social media opposition or even a book. But, in the midst of your disagreement never, Never hate them personally. Be able to pray for them, & if events should provide, pray with them. As much as you find it hard to believe maybe, Maybe they can get into heaven with some “wild” idea but, Friend we can’t make heaven with less than love in our hearts. Amen? Ouch? – 3/25/20

“Desire for revival is one thing;

– Duncan Campbell

So – – – you’ve stopped gambling. I’m sorry you every started (the desire to “get-rich-quick” has several snares, gambling is a major one) but I’m glad you’re done. I know-most you feel better about yourself. Good. The devil will make you proud of the discipline this took (congratulations on the will-power J) & try to convince you you’re almost into heaven. He is a liar. Please cry out to Jesus for forgiveness for all your sins & Believe His gracious promises. Only Christ can make you a New Creature! – 3/23/20

John Dorsey’s shortest poem (Maybe the world’s shortest poem?) was Titled

*Woman Troubles*

“Adam had’em.”

– John F Dorsey

If your god is of this world

Corrupt, carnal, cold

You’ll seek to be like him

To live more in his sad mold.

But when you meet the True God

Creator, Redeemer, Pure Lord

You’ll want to be like Him

All that His grace can e’er afford.

– eab, 3/23/18

There are 1000s of people (who knows how many) who believe in the “historical” Christ. They have no doubt He walked both the shore & water of Galilee. They live a life above the average. They’ve even “walked the sawdust trail” at a camp or revival but they’re not in Victory. Friends – we’re saved by faith. We’re sanctified by faith. And we’re only going to go to heaven by an active, living faith. Re-read or sing the song J H Sammis penned, “Trust & Obey.” It is right. – 3/23/20

“It seems to me the most suitable manner of beginning the day.”

– John Q Adams – said regarding his daily study of the Bible

Psa 9.2

“I will be glad & rejoice in thee:

I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.”

I hope you have a couple different hymnals in your house. I respect Pilgrim’s Progress (you’ve read it – right?) & Paradise Lost, but would have to say an older hymnal can bless your heart more than any book after God’s Word. Keep one near. Read/sing from it as a fine supplement to Scripture reading.

(My hand-sized leather-bound “Praise & Worship” was a gift from my sweet wife when I turned 27. It did not have an index of authors [perhaps its greatest weakness] so I made up one & fixed it inside the front & back covers; it’s on my desk as I write.) – 3/23/20

– Richard Humble

Recently I’ve seen G K Chesterton quoted, again – a roman catholic writer. Think. In a sense we approve of the person we quote – not just those few words, but also their religion/life style. By putting their words out to the public we’re “saying” they said it better than we would’ve. I try to only quote souls I have a hope that they’re in heaven or use a disclaimer. I’d urge you to do the same. No, we don’t know their hearts but Christ Himself furnished a powerful test “…By their fruits ye shall know them”(Mat 7.20). – 3/6/20

“Sin is against God & since God is eternal

sin must be punished eternally.”

Mans’ body was made to carry the soul;

Not the mind – as Edison said.

Which I’m sure he found out, since he stepped out,

Leaving the living, for the dead.

Yes, the body was made to carry the soul;

The weak to carry the strong,

The shortest lived, its life to give,

To shelter the one that lives long.

– eab, Mar. 1972

Spies lead two lives (or more) & may wear two-to-many disguises, one at least like the enemy. I see no where in the NT that Christians are to look like, dress like, talk like the enemy. So – – – why do I see professing Christians looking like spies – trying to blend in with satan’s fallen kingdom? – 3/17/20

“Brethren, it [The Bible] is inexhaustible…the Word is like its

“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man:

but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

…John Bright say he would cheerfully rest the whole question

– quoted by Henry W Warren, M E bishop

Come to Christ, & be Born Again, then make sure all the chapters of your life are clean: all lived for Him. Do not worry about the last “chapter” (death). If God allows you to live to 99, live holy, as unto the Lord. If He allows you to be killed for Him; let that be OK too. The devil would like us to worry about the ending “chapter.” Don’t. We’re all going to die; what better way to die than being ready & even being a martyr? -3/19/20
