Who would kill if you could? (Stop, STOP, don’t tell me nor facebook.) Did a name jump into your mind? Did some group of people come quickly to mind? If one (or a group) did, you have EVER reason to doubt your christianity. Christ said, “…Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you & pray for them which despitefully use you & persecute you”(Mat 5.44). – 8/30/21

As a dad (& “gramp” sch. teacher, pastor) I’m aware children can be fidgety, want activity, love action. Having said that parents, grandparents can tune kids desires to a higher pitch or calm it to a lower level. How? by the actions & desires of adults. Would you believe some hyper stuff is done by the “adults” more for the adult’s sake than for the child? Please parent, grandparents stop pushing activity, stop building excitement. Content adults will tend to have content children. Try it. – 8/30/21

Sooner or later we meet someone who has a more keen discernment than we do. What should be our attitude? We should neither envy, nor dislike them. God’s allowed them a gift (which may perhaps also be a burden). Before or after meeting the above, we may meet a soul who seems to lack discernment – attitude? Don’t allow yourself to feel superior to them. Do (as you recall their name) ask God to protect them (being so naïve). Do be patient with them as God has been/is with you. – 8/30/21

If you want your daughter to marry (I assume a normal, parental wish) & yet early realize, she has a quirk, a limitation, anything that makes her different (including an exceptional mind) begin to pray for her to be found by THE right young man. God may have (in the next church, next community, next county) a chap who’ll be able to neutralize her quirk, shore-up a limitation, even admire her braininess (tho he may not match it) & love her with pure, Godly affection. Pray for him & her. – 8/29/21

Church – may I have your attention? Are you really watching a movie a week? How long does a movie last: hour – hour & a half? If your pastor came by your house, got you & your family on your knees for an hour once a week would that be OK? Be welcome? WHAT? You’re watching 2 movies a week? Are you praying 2 – 3 hours a week (in addition to family altar)? As a non-movie-going, non-movie-renting adult I fear evangelical/holiness families are backsliding. Movies are helping that happen. – 8/29/21

WORDS

A word can be written & after written, Read.

A word can be heard, heard after it is said.

Words are such wonderful things, have such charming ways

Both when spoken & written and then for 1000s of days.

Man appears to be the inventor of sculpture, music, “art.”

There seems to be an increase in “religious” entertainment. It varies from hearing college choirs & quartets to church music concerts, to going to hear professional/semi-professional “christian” singers, to watching drama groups perform some “biblical” rendition, to being fascinated by a “christian puppet” to hearing a “clean comedian.” What’s caused this hunger? Why this desire to sing or sing along, or laugh or clap, or even raise hands in “praise”? These Friend, are not a moves toward REVIVAL. – 8/29/21

God is gaining the ascendancy in your congregation or the devil is. No church can move closer to God & farther from Him at the same time. Which way is YOUR group going? And perhaps the most important thing with which I can probe – Are you *Helping God be move freely in your service or are you *Hindering? Did you testify the last time the Spirit asked you to or did you stifling the Holy Ghost? Please friend, drop out of your schedule something so you can pray more. – 8/29/21

Mom/Dad what you allow your at-home-child do/dress/go, directly ties to your closeness or distance from God. The clothing, the hair style, the facial expressions allowed (yes, even to your face) can show your relationship with the Lord AND your interaction with these offspring. Man-up Dad, Woman-up Mom, become a loving, Responsible parent. Oh, how the church, Oh how the nation needs this. – August 2021

As a teacher, turned pastor, turned S.M. “preacher,” I urge you to read/study the Bible every day. Please have also a daily time of prayer (or 2, 3) “Evening & morning & at noon, will I pray”…(Psa 55.17). Warning – Bible reading/study & prayer can become routine. The Holy Spirit needs to help us get beyond form & truly Worship. (I need help here, as well.) Slow down – & tell Jesus, “I Love You.” Recall His great faithfulness. Enjoy the Joy of God’s presence. Rejoice in Him. WORSHIP. – 8/13/21

I want “nothing but love” in my heart toward every individual I know. When I see changed life-styles it makes it a little harder. So many youth raised in homes where holiness was professed, failed to take the holy way. It is simplistic to suggest this was because of “A, B, or C” & yet for the sake of those who children are still home allow this: A.) Some professed “holiness homes” were a front: there were explosions behind locked doors. B.) Some homes may’ve been OK but the child saw hypocrisy at church & over-reacted. C.) Some youth wanted to world (or worldly church) more than they wanted God & His holiness. – 8/25/21

Can you tell truth from a lie when it’s written down?  in a picture? in movies? satan has done much to fill the world with mirage, illusion, holograms. satan wants you enslaved to laughter, lightness, trivia till your finger & toenails turn blue & its too late to have a clear-minded talk with God. STOP. Stop the almost constant “drug” of fiction. Become a seeker for truth. You don’t have to find a cave to do this, but you should kick out TV, hollywood/disney. TODAY. – 8/19/21

I could wish the church were not so influenced by the world. Why is it? It has to be because “the world” is still inside too many church members & yes, sadly, inside the man who should be a “man of God.” Does this have to be? The best of churches will have a tinge of this earth; after all, we live here & are still humans. But God has an experience of Grace called Sanctification, in which we die out to craving the world’s approval. Have you been Sanctified? – 8/21/21

If you were planning to visit Asia or Europe I imagine you’d read up on this or that about where you wished to visit. Going to Heaven is even more crucial – the saint is moving there permanently. Please don’t defend the Revolutionary War because some pastors were in favor of it. Truth be known, there may have been as many (or more) who opposed the war but since the colonies won the preachers who opposed the war were ignored. In case you’re not aware of it, there were many people who moved to Canada rather than fight against the king. Both Paul (Rom 13) & Peter (1Pe 2.17) teach to honor the king – to revolt sounded wrong to a number of those past Americans. – 8/16/21

A wonderful Biblical truth is that God Made Man. A sad damning truth is that many men have made gods. Ancient heathen men: stone & wood & metal – modern heathenish men: paper (folding money & pictures) & millions of feet of movie film. Much Belated Thank You. Andrew recently ate Long John Silvers & called afterward remembering our “picnic,” TN c. 1974. We 6 went down 321 to Foothills Parkway. We parked at the unopened end, walked up to the first curve, found a spot to spread out a picnic & enjoyed (possibly a first for us) a Long John Silver supper. I’ve no memory of who may’ve given to make that possible (Giver may already be in Glory) But “Thank You.” Many gifts in ‘74-‘85 made such memories happen. God Bless Thanks so much. – 8/20/21

Many know the question, “What would Jesus do?” Better ask, “What DID Jesus do?” (That’s written in the Bible.) Jesus made no attempt to over-throw Rome. Jesus didn’t promote “His” nation nor its chocked-full-of-tradition religion. He established the Kingdom of God/Heaven. His Kingdom is a Realm of righteousness. As you face the uncertainty of society’s hyped “news” & limitations in freedom, Please Friend do not, Do Not DO what Jesus DID not do. – 8/16/21

God made humans male & female. satan opposes what God does; he strives to blur the line between the sexes. Parents – do nothing (& I mean nothing) which will lean your son to be less than a man. Do nothing that’ll push your daughter to be less than a lady. In the battle to raise a man or raise a daughter TV is not your friend – get rid of it. Movies from hollywood/disney aren’t friends – do not go to see or rent such trash. Work with the Lord so your son is all male, daughter all female. Blessings. – 8/17/21

Thank God for every 50s Baptist, Congregational, Free Methodist, Nazarene, Pilgrim Holiness, Salvation Army, & Wesleyan Methodist preacher who stood against TV, hollywood & disney. They were right – perhaps more right than they realized. AND the Lord *condemn* every son, grandson or “spiritual son” of such men who caved to this trash. Why did they grow silent on this filth & then buy one? More than one reason, no doubt, but a large one (IMO) was the pastor’s love or his kids love for sports. – 8/17/21

It’s a sad thing to backslide in your 50s. To leave the Christ who saved you in pre-teen/teen years. What’s MORE sad? To backslide in your 20s & instill in your child a love for sports, to give them dancing lessons, teach them to love the circus, to love immodesty, feed them on the froth of movies, take them to fairs & carnivals, teach them to love racing &/or gambling. What chance do they have of repenting unless they see you repent? Your child may be lost & you too. Return, Prodigal, Return. – 8/19/21

Are you a Citizen of Heaven or citizen of an earthy land? “I’m both.” Jesus said, “No man can serve two masters for either he will hate the one & love the other or else he will hold to the one & despise the other…”(Mat 6.24). This pungent v. is found between Mat 6.19-20 “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth…But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…) AND v33 “…Seek ye first the kingdom of God & his righteousness… Don’t try to belong to 2 kingdoms. Impossible. Jesus is the Final Authority! – 8/16/21

He kills you – you go to heaven. You’re safe. He can later be saved & also go to heaven. Praise the Lord.

You kill him – he goes to hell. He’s lost FOREVER. If you killed in hate, you’ll join him, if not forgiven. 

This seems true whether domestic violence, home invader, or national crisis between sinners & Saints.

If this is too simple may God help me to see. If this is how it is MAY God help you see. Think – 8/16/21

I’ve never seen a time in which so many women wear pants (what for centuries was western man’s clothing). Nor have I seen a time when so many males wear stuff leaning toward the feminine. Guys appear in public in “outfits” their granddads would NEVER have worn. What’s happened to us? “Is it all a sin, Bryan?” Some stuff I see guys wear MAY not be sinful but it seems soft, “smacks” of womanhood, sets a poor example for their sons. Women please come back to be a lady. Men – Man up. – 8/17/21

“Bryan, who do you think you are? You say stuff we hear no place else.” I write partly because I’m a saved & sanctified Christian. Praise God. When you agree (or flat out disagree) you’re hearing a man with a Teacher’s Heart (God’s direction since 8^th grade). You’re hearing a Pastor urging you to be ready to die. You’re also hearing a Grandpa talking to you “in his living room” – wanting the BEST for you. Yes, I’m probably say things your pastor is not but – – – they need to be said. The world & church are getting worse. Therefore allow an old man to speak some truth before one of us passes into Eternity. Blessings. – 8/17/21

Can you read “your” theology into Scripture? Probably more easily than many see. Can you read personality into a Book’s passage. More likely than we care to admit. What did the Text say? Now what does the Text say WITHIN its context? I can handle an occasional sermon where a Text is read, the minister says it’s a jumping-off-point & never returns to it. But if a Text is supposedly being preached with ITS context it needs to stay with its setting & not be pulled in theology or personality. – 8/6/21

Have you noticed that when a woman cuts her hair she’ll tend to cut off more & later still more? Please, Sister leave it God’s length, i.e. uncut. Jewelry seems to go the same direction; a simple “wedding band” is the start; then comes a diamond, then a necklace, matching “ear bobs” & a ring for the toe. Some people are not believers. They live peaceable with some who profess to be saved & they may even have a “head belief” in Christ but they have never confessed all sins AND stopped sinning. They’ve conformed to a degree to the Christian’s separation from the world – this is appreciated to an extent, but will mean zero at the Great White Throne Judgment. Please sir, please ma’am, if this describes you, I invite you to BE saved. You can ENJOY being a Christian, not just enduring it. – 8/13/21

“I don’t worship sports” – Let’s see 1.) You Pay to attend. 2.) You Pay close attention to every part. 3.) You Pay by being on your feet & shouting (you go home tired). Do you do this at church? Do you > Be Honest < and 4.) You live in the glow of the game, you “re-live” this play or that inning. These are similar to what saints do in the House of Worship but they have joy *now & *heaven for eternity. Wake up, admit you DO worship sports & then stop. You Can! – 8/12/21

Have you wondered why you *want the world? Note: Christians are tempted to sin, but in your honest heart you’re aware you really DO *want to dress like the world, *want to go to professional sports, *want to listen to music from hollywood/disney films, *want to keep up with who this movie star is “dating” (may mean in-bed-with) etc. God can remove this lust for the world from your life, if/when you truly pray & believe. Christians don’t want the world – it looks (like it truly is) cheap to them. – 8/13/21

SAY WHAT?

If your church is left (& moving further left) don’t be surprised if Mr Money Bags starts attending – he’s possibly figured you out; that you’ll not preach against the race horses he raises or against the occasional bad word which “spices” his conversation. Don’t be surprised if somebody donates a set of drums for your platform. Don’t be surprised when a local politician wants to address your congregation. Those on the left, support those on the left. Christ will place the goats on the left (Mat 25.33). – 8/13/21

After arriving in Cincy, from rural Ohio (1957) I heard about beatniks & may’ve seen a few. Some people strive to be different; they want to stand out in the crowd. They push the limits. They revel in being non-conformists, they think. Sorry for them (in a way I am), they arrived too late. God Almighty has had His prophets, His apostles, His circuit-riding preachers who are the True Non-Conformists. God’s men (& women) are *different* inside where it really counts. “Be not conformed…” – 8/13/21
