1Jo 3.1 +

1Jo 3.1

“…What manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.”

“Let us, therefore, forsake the vanity of the crowd & their false teachings,

& turn back to the word delivered to us from the beginning.”

– Polycarp

It is alright that a son be able to cook but don’t push this (some men never do – others become the best cooks on earth). It’s OK that a daughter is able to use a “man’s tool” but don’t push this either. God made them male & female. He had His purpose. Christ did NOT erase the line between the sexes – if anything He (& His followers) made it more distinct – a leader (or so) in the OT were female; it could be said that no NT woman was a leader in the sense of her words being recorded. – 10/27/21

“Eighty & six years have I now served Christ, & he has never done me the least wrong:

How then can I blaspheme my King & my Savior?”

– Polycarp

There’s a huge difference between a church encouraging youngsters & teens to memorize & then recite Scripture at Special Services emphasizing the Birth of Jesus & having a Play. “Plays” have a child/youth memorizing words of mere men (writer of the “drama”) versus memorizing the Words of God. To stand up, recite, & be seated isn’t dramatic but to dress-up & act, saying “cute” words of men is drama. It frankly (IMO) does not belong in the House of God. – 10/27/21

He may have been chained as a galley slave [1]

With no hope it seemed, but beyond the grave

But his mind was free, yes free to soar

Above the splash and pull of the oar.

She may have had to mill the king’s flour

Be thus employed hour on slave hour.

But it was not so with her good mind

It sailed in realms above the low grind.

The gracious God of all time and of space,

Has so created His scattered “manly race”

That though enslaved; the lowest of men,

The body’s all that can ascend.

Two parts of man, the greater, greater by far,

Have boundless spheres, ah, past the near star,

And can delve and travel and explore

Beyond ceiling, walls, or swaying floor

The mind (Should we also call it soul?)

Can’t be bound by fetter, chain, nor pole

If this soul/mind is redeemed by God

It has a home far above greening sod.

Only sin can the mind of man enslave;

(Sin can make a coward of the brave).

Sin’s habits and thoughts, and words, embind.

Only sin can fetter a man’s mind

Oh, what a Salvation, oh, Godly gift,

Freeing the mind, allowing a daily “lift”

Above grinds and galleys of man’s strife;

Salvation un-enslaves the “mind-life.”

What is the one thing God would like to crop-out-of-your-life that you’ll have more time to pray? What do you need to drop from your schedule that you may be more effective as a Person of Prayer? If you already know – hasten to obey, Today. If you don’t know, ask God to show you. He is Faithful. Remember – no dying person ever said “I spent too much of my life alone with God.”  – 11/1/21

The purpose of God is not to make you happy;

The purpose of God is to make you holy.

Rom 7.3

“So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law…”

Never have I seen a church become more spiritual because they installed a big screen. Nor a set of drums. Nor removed their hymnals. Nor started using “contemporary” songs labeled “christian.” Nor had woman in pants sing specials. Of course, I’ve not been everywhere but in over 70 yrs of watching & then participating in services in many churches/camps/schools in several widely scattered locations I HAVE seen a lot of change & sadly, most of it as been toward the world. – 11/1/21

“You can tell a false prophet not so much by what he preaches

 as by what he doesn’t preach.”

– V O Agan

[1] Had recently re-read about John Knox being a galley slave.
