NO BODY IN THE TOMB
Posted in Bible, hell, Jesus Christ, poem, uncategorized, worship, tagged No Body in the tomb on March 25, 2016| Leave a Comment »
What? No Body in the tomb?
Who ever heard the like?
Who can thus presume,
That One has risen
That One is no longer dead long?
Who ever heard that any successfully fled.
He is not here?
Why, this is where they stopped the bier,
This is where a sheet-bound Frame
From which such wondrous words once came
This is where they laid it down,
And sorrowfully, slowly, slumped back to town.
This has to be the lonely spot
Surely, I’ve not “forgot”
The roll of the land, the look of the vale,
This is the place, lifeless and stale
That One’s precious Body came to rest
(What other point on earth is so blest?)
But the tomb is empty, there’s no Body in the grave
What ever do you suppose? – – –
Why, here are His grave clothes,
Here is the napkin they wound ‘round His head
These are the items so know with the dead
But He, the One who briefly wore them,
Is gone – you’ll have to store them.
He’ll never need graves clothes again.
He left them low, He did ascend
He showed Himself – Many did Him see
Life gave way to eternity!
The One who came the lost to save,
Has conquered Sin, Hell, and the Grave!

Too “good” to go to hell?
The very concept flies in the face of God.

Titanic minister – died

John Harper died 4/14/1912, in the icy waters near the Titanic. He was a Baptist preacher from Glasgow, Scotland who was returning to preach again at Moody Church where he had previously ministered a three month period. He & his daughter, Nana were aboard when she “struck an iceberg” about 11:40 PM. John wrapped Nana in a blanket & handed her over to go into a lifeboat. He handed his own life-jacket to another passenger.
A survivor clearly remembered that John shouted “Women, children & the unsaved into the lifeboats.” It was John, according to book, The Titanic’s Last Hero, who called upon the band to play “Nearer, My God, to Thee.” He prayed on deck “with holy joy on his face.” When the ship started lurching he jumped into the water swimming from one to another urging them to call on Jesus & be saved.
One, Aquilla Webb, told four years later how John had come near him (both floating on wreckage) asking if he was saved. Webb said he was not to which John said “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ & thou shalt be saved.” A wave pushed John away but God allowed him be swept by Webb again & John asked “Are you saved now?” When Webb answered in the negative John repeated the verse & shortly after was claimed by hypothermia & slipped under the cold water. Webb said, “I am John Harper’s last convert.”
Abortion & War

There’s Inconsistency among Christians about forced death. If a friend is pro Abortion you’re tempted to be less friendly. If a friend is PRO WAR you think nothing about it. Why? Both are killings! Both the baby & soldier were forced from earth pre-maturely. The baby goes safely to heaven. Soldiers are not generally saints (on whichever side) & death plunges many soldiers to hell. Heaven is being populated by ABORTIONS. Hell is being populated by WAR.
Christians, we should oppose both abortion-on-demand A-N-D war.

“Holiness or hell” made some bristle;
Not preaching it let some men whistle.
But oh, if we’re not holy at death
If carnal, as we draw our last breath
Hell will be real: fire, sulfur, sizzle.

Paradise Lost – published
Posted in Bible, education, heaven, hell, history, Jesus Christ, Literature, philosophy, poet British, uncategorized, worship, tagged Classic, John Milton, Of Man's first disobedience, Paradise Lost, published on March 27, 2015| Leave a Comment »

John Milton published his classic Paradise Lost 3/27/1667. Milton, born in 1608 (12/9), was at a good mental age to produce this excellent contribution except for the fact that by now he was blind (a daughter wrote what he dictated to her from his memory). Paradise Lost is not only a most worthy piece of English writing, it has become an enduring poem in the field of literature at large.
It is impossible to imagine a greater backdrop than he chose: Heaven, Earth, & Hell. His imagination is vast, his vocabulary stretches the modern mind. Bible believers can “see” his word pictures yet must guard against making them too authoritarian – after all, Milton’s inspiration is only the earthly kind allowed to poets & great prose writers – he was not inspirited in the same sense as writers of Holy Writ.
Milton himself was an interesting person. After preparing to enter the clergy (at Cambridge) he changed careers to become a poet. He gave himself to extensive classical & modern readings (religion, science, philosophy, history, politics, & literature). He became proficient in Latin, Greek, Hebrew, French, Spanish, Italian, & was familiar Old English & Dutch. His education was “rounded out” by a 13-month tour of France & Italy in which he met several intellectuals among whom was Galileo,
Opening lines of Paradise Lost
Of man’s first disobedience, and the fruit
Of that forbidden tree, whose mortal taste
Brought death into the world, and all our woe,
With loss of Eden, till one greater man
Restore us, and regain the blissful seat,
Sing heavenly muse, that on the secret top
Of Oreb, or of Sinai, didst inspire
That shepherd, who first taught the chosen seed,
In the beginning how the heavens and earth
Rose out of chaos: Or if Sion hill
Delight thee more, and Siloa’s brook that flowed
Fast by the oracle of God; I thence
Invoke thy aid to my adventurous song…

The couple that’s fallen under the devil’s sway –
Was it mutual, or did one lead the way?
And that one who pushed for the downward track,
Will he/she be the one to bring them back?
