“The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom;

& before honor is humility.”

8 of 47 “…Give ear; be not PROUD: for the LORD hath spoken”(Jer 13.15)

Psa 40.4 Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the PROUD, nor such as turn aside to lies.

“The sign of Christianity is not a cross

but a tongue of fire.”

– Samuel Chadwick /Humanity & God/

There are “Now I lay me’s,”

And “Thank You for the spuds.”

There are “help me’s for this test,”

And, “Father, I need new duds!”

There is “If You’ll get me out of here,”

And, “Lord, I’d sure like to shoot a deer.”

But none of these, no matter how sincere

Compare to, “Lord, I love You, I’m glad you’re near.”

– eab, Oct. ‘89

“Ritual always appeals to the nursery. The…drapery, processions & awesome ritual

impress those who have no deeper vision.”

– Samuel Chadwick /Humanity & God/

Are you interested in Truth? Are you more interested in “unvarnished Truth” than you were a year ago? Five yrs ago? We’re living in an age of deception: what looks like metal is plastic, what appears to be wood is paper; worse what is “sold” as fact, is fiction. I beg of you – for your sake & the sake of your family – become a man/woman who seeks Truth & is not lead astray by the shallowness/fakeness surrounding us. -10/7/19

Pro 23.23

“Buy the truth & sell it not; also wisdom,

& instruction, & understanding.”

“The world has suffered & not been wrought on enough by the Holy Spirit because the church

has been unfaithful unwilling & unyielded to the Holy Spirit & His employment.”

– Joshua Stauffer

God never told one prophet He was Proud of him. Jesus said to no disciple, “I’m so Proud of how you handled that.” Why, WHY are holiness people (out of whom Pride should be removed) repeatedly using Pride or Proud about their children/grandkids etc.? My memory goes back to the 40’s & I’ve never seen a time with more people used “Proud/Pride” than now. Christian, these words, & the carnality behind, them must be pulled out of your life. – 10/7/19

Do you have Him there?”

“Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child,

the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

7 of 47 “…Give ear; be not PROUD: for the LORD hath spoken”(Jer 13.15)

Psa 31.23 O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the PROUD doer.

“Shortcuts to dominion are of satan not of God.”

– Samuel Chadwick /Humanity & God/

I saw a bird there,

On a twig so bare

On the top-most branch of a tree.

Between his head and the sky,

Was nothing but what might fly by.

He was lord of all he could see.

And he cocked his head,

As if he said,

“I’m way up here; look at me.”

But now he has flown,

The twig empty is shown,

And the silhouette is as blank as can be. – eab, Oct. 1965

“By sin God’s image in man is defaced

but not erased..”

– Samuel Chadwick /Humanity & God/

If there is maturity after sanctification (& there surely is) it means that at the moment of obtaining a pure heart all of us are/were immature. This does no mean we were not made holy & that our filling was not complete. It simply means what the word suggests, immaturity. May God help us to be willing to admit this about ourselves. AND may He help us to give the newly purified souls time to grow-up in Him. – 9/23/19

1Jo 1.5

“This then is the message which we have heard of him, &

declare unto you, that God is light, & in him is no darkness at all.”

“God is blessing because He found [people] willing to live in His presence.”

– Chad Snider, sermon, 8/4/19

Like Light? Great. Do everything in your power (it’s in your power to repent, to believe, to obey, to make apologies or restitutions) to go to Heaven – it’s the realm of Light. Hate darkness? That’s good too. Get out of sin, NOW. Sin leads to hell & hell (if we read Scripture correctly) will be eventually emptied into Out Darkness. Oh, Friend, leave sin & its night – come to Jesus the Light of the world. -10/5/19

“God’s goal is not to spook & awe us with His presence.

He wants to fill us with His presence.”

“The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but

Psa 12.3 The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh PROUD things:

“The Holy Ghost in me won’t fuss

with the Holy Ghost in you.”

– R E Carroll as quoted by Robt. England

The coconut came to land > My first song, Hobe Sound <

On the damp and even sand

Of an island in the ocean, in the east.

On its third side it set,

Its face all dark and wet,

Glad the ceaseless surging had ceased.

It had been long at sea,

Or at least it seemed to me,

That it might have come from a land afar,

Where the wind had forced it in

To the home of scale and fin;

And it blinked on the blue like a star

Till in due time and space

It was left as useful waste,

Settled by the sea, on the sand.

It was life in its beginning,

A palm in the making,

When the coconut came to join the land.

– eab Oct. 1967

Love thy native land? Ah, that is natural. There is a normal love of country which a christian can have. But

“My country – right or wrong” may be called hyper-patriotism. A christian must avoid it – we’re citizens of the much higher & e-v-e-r-l-a-s-t-i-n-g Kingdom of Heaven. – 9/25/19

“I just don’t have enough faith

to believe in evolution.”

– R E Carroll, sermon, 2/11/1988

If God is holy (& He is), if God invites us to be like Him (& He does) then the believer-on-his-way-to-heaven is either sanctified, seeking to be sanctified, OR (if not one of these two) is possibly in confusion. (I beg you, Friend, obey all the light you have & get out of confusion.) – 9/27/19

“But as he which hath called you is holy,

so be ye holy in all manner of conversation.”

“Madam Guyon tells of walking 7 yrs with no fresh manifestation of God…He may let us go thru a period of silence when we are not assured of His presence except thru His eternal Word…”

– Steve D Herron

Allow me to throw out an idea. One or more readers may love English grammar. (If it always made “sense” to you & you got A’s you may not help my appeal – read on.) Are you a person who struggled with basic grammar concepts (or in-depth material) but through perseverance & prayer found a “handle,” found a format or formula, which really helped. If this is YOU & you love grammar now (but once did not) would you be willing to be post (once a day, every-other-day, or at least once a week) a tip on structure, or a definition, or an idea that revolutionized grammar for you? Please pray about this. -10/4/19

The wind blew

The wind blew as in a wild rant,

Flinging soil bits, bending plant,

Showing itself in this up-stage

Master of sand, controller of sage,

Pushing and punishing its lesser kin

Earthbound things, closer to sin.

Wind, as most know, has a high Source,

Heaven (the lowest one) feels it play and force.

Wind swoops in quite uninvited,

Divides that which was once united,

Combines that separated by miles,

Flings, and flies, and finishes, and files,

And then moves on as nonchalant

As if (as IS the case) it has no want.

Wind comes, do you know from where?

It settles sometimes over there,

Without a care, God only its Master,

It causes, but knows, no disaster.

Oh, who can know what wind will see

Blowing ill or good for you for me.

Peer pressure is in the bar room, I imagine. P.P. (peer pressure) is on the job. Sports are full of P.P. And- – -would you believe, P.P. is even in the realm of christian academicians? “Dr. So-n-So uses ‘x’(new Bible version).” “Dean ‘A,’ PhD, is sold on the ‘y’(different version).” – – – “If I’m going to be accepted in this ‘christian-college-world,’ guess I’ll have to become an advocate of one of the new ‘books-on-the-block.’” Christian, obey God, above & beyond peer pressure. – 9/26/19

“We are indebted to our Lord’s controversies with the Pharisees & Scribes

for a considerable part of the four Gospels.”

– John Fletcher

Remove “luck” from your vocabulary & “I bet” “good fortune” “chance” “fate.” These (& who knows how many others) are part of the heathen culture & its words, which surround us. Never “thank your lucky stars.” Never “knock on wood.” Never read “your horoscope.” Subtract all such from life. God Reigns! – 9/26/19

Act 16.18

“…Paul being grieved…said to the spirit [of divination], I command thee

in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her…he came out.”

“God’s commands to pray are really veiled personal letters

inviting us into His presence.”

– Steve D Herron, sermon, 11/14/83

How do you pray? Is 90% of your praying about physical need? Do you spend a lot of time praying for things with a dollar sign ($)? There’s a Scriptural prayer I’d encourage you to pray & pray it often. “…Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he would send forth laborers into his harvest” (Luk 10.2). – 9/30/19

So you’re planning on getting married (or just got married). As a man happily married for 58+ yrs, I highly recommend this holy state – best “state” on earth. But I’m going to warn you. The devil hates few things worse than a happy, pure marriage. He’ll fight you. He’ll point out her peculiarities & temp you to be galled by them. The devil will show you his oddities (“Why would anyone like ___”) & temp you to be impatient. Pray for each other. Forgive (without being asked) your love’s “stupid” actions/words. Know that satan is out to ruin your happy home but he can’t unless you let him. DON’T. – 9/26/19

“Fasting becomes a ‘hunger strike’ against God.”

– Albert Barr, sermon, 6/22/1997

Only God deserves 100%, unquestioned loyalty. No church, no government earns this. “My bishop – my superintendent – my governor – my senator – my president – – – right or wrong.” IS wrong! God warrants 100% devotion – He is 100% right. No man is. Pray & Think seriously about who you “support.” – 9/26/19

“Faithful is he that calleth you,

“We are destined eternally to spend eternity

– Daryl D Hausman, sermon, 6/15/’95

God has called us all to witness. It may be with words or non-verbally. It may be via a difficult to learn language of another continent or in the vernacular of your native Appalachian or Rocky Mt. valley. It is not just a “preacher thing.” Witnessing may come when least expected, even in what is, for you, a crisis hour. And – witnessing is not telling Bill he should not smoke (he already senses that) but rather in words (or non-verbally) letting him glimpse the joy Jesus has given you. – 9/26/19

in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”

Some of you know enough Methodist history to know the name Richard Watson. He preached his 1st sermon in a cottage, day after be turned 15. Francis Asbury was redeemed at 14. By age 18 he was preaching as many as 5 times a week. Much more recently S D Herron (founder of HSBC) was pastoring at 17. ** Where are the young men today who’re willing to study the word, pray deeply for insights, & step out early to mind God? -9/25/19

earthly paradise

Some seek an earthly paradise

Condemning acts they /think/ aren’t nice.

They don’t love God or love what’s right.

Prefer their notions to His Light.

Nor do they desire to be born twice.

– eab, Sept 2009

Dear Godly Pastor or Holy Deacon – Do you have a young man in church who’s clearly saved & either sanctified or seeking to be? You ought to pray about inviting him to hold a Prayer Meeting. Our churches should be “hatching spots” for young preachers. If/when he agrees to speak, let him know you’ll be praying for him as he prepares/preaches. If he does great you’ll have no problem complimenting – if he does poorly, notice words, an illustration, his prayer: something you can honestly say was good. We need young men entering the ministry. Your church could be helping the Kingdom. – 9/25/19

“No person has such a full view of his own astonishing weakness

 as does the holy man.”

– H A Baldwin /Holiness & t Human Element/

Churches have “special services” & if one night there’s a little freedom we’re “delighted.” Friends we’re too easily satisfied. No sinner was converted. No one crossed the aisle to apologize for her attitude. No soul testified to being purified from the carnal nature. No young man was called to preach. No young lady felt challenged to start a kids Sunday Sch. class. (I’m not trying to be too hard on us, nor play a holier-than-thou tune.) I question it’s God’s will for our churches to be closing. We need REVIVAL, not just “special services.” God help us! O, God help us! – 9/23/19

You may have had a tiny hunch,

Christ could have created that lunch;

But to Him, that did not “add”

In stead, He used what the Lad had,

Used it to nourish the whole bunch.

– eab, Sept. 2008

God invites us to be like Him. The devil contends for us to be like him. The more you learn about God the more you want to be like God. The more you learn about satan the less you want to be like him. – 9/22/19

Joh 8.32

“And ye shall know the truth,

and the truth shall make you free.”

There is a Freedom in Jesus Christ – it’s the most important Freedom on earth. The NT recognized that one could be bond (a slave) & at the same time have this Freedom. The western world, enamored with “democracy,” a relatively new idea, (very possibly the clay-mixed-with-iron in the image, Dan 2.43) can’t see how one could be bond but also have Freedom. We insist on the body having Freedom – & (unless a true Believer) we fail to see real Freedom is the Freedom of the soul! Are you free? – 9/23/19
