“…God resisteth the proud &

giveth grace to the humble.”

“Truth has never lost ground by inquiry.”

– Wm Penn

35 of 46 “…Pride & arrogancy…do I hate”(Pro 8.13).

Dan 5.20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in PRIDE, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:

“What you consider as your best excuse

He considers as your greatest sin.”

– Edward Payson

Being God

I love You Lord, the best that I can

And, You being God, understand.

But, oh, You love me, little ole me.

And being God, You love me perfectly.

– eab, 8/1/19

Dying might be thought of as approaching the end of the hall where an elevator is. If you’re fully obeying God, you get into His “lift” & swish upward. Wonderful!!!

Friend – please harken – if you’re not obeying & not believing, the elevator door doesn’t open for heaven but you drop down a dark “elevator shaft” into hell. Horrible!!! – 8/8/19

Heb 9.27

“…Is appointed unto men once to die,

but after this the judgment:”

There are mobsters, red-light “madams” & war “heroes” in hell. I’m sorry – they didn’t have to go. It seems worse (possibly a mistaken idea) but hell also has former pastors & S.S. teachers – perhaps from the church down the road. They also didn’t have to go but “…the cares of this world & the deceitfulness of riches & the lusts of other things…” (Mar 4.19) entered their hearts & they lost out with God. – 8/8/19

“Nelson [John] said he would wear then ‘as a cross’ but would not fight as it was not

agreeable to his conscience & he would not harm his conscience for any man on earth.”

– Able Stevens

Home schooling? Don’t overlook Vocabulary Cards. Buy or have student make his own from a dictionary. The ability to read (pronouncing properly) & understand the meanings of words is so much a part of being educated. On 11/25/11 I finished going through an older dictionary highlighting all the one syllable words – an interesting, informative exercise. Might offer something like this for home school extra credit.- 8/8/19

“First…pardon (salv.begun) is received by faith producing works, 2nd…holiness (salv.continued) is faith working by love, 3rd…heaven (salv.finished) is the reward of this faith!”

– Able Stevens

“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another,

& be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud & giveth grace to the humble.”

“Departed spirits are not men; & dead men cannot be tried till the resurrection of the dead takes place when departed spirits & raised bodies will form men again by their re-union.”

– John Fletcher /Works I/

16 of 46 “…Pride & arrogancy…do I hate”(Pro 8.13).

Pro 13.10 Only by PRIDE cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

“What pleasure must the discovery of Divine truth give to a sanctified soul!”

– John Fletcher /Works I/

Seen in life, or seen in death

A mansion of stone or brick, did you say,

Ov’rlooking the point where river meets bay,

With four-storied garrets, room for four cars,

And a high domed-room to study the stars,

A half-mile lane and personal tennis court,

Kentucky-fenced knoll were horses cavort,

An indoor pool with a European tub,

All this close, to the golf-course, country club?

The finest mansion you have ever seen,

With yard upon yard – green trimmed in lush green,

The highest castle on a curved mountain spine,

With stair cases, great room, stones to entwine

Or glorious condo above pure beach,

With “condiments” in commodious reach,

All appear huts, caves, shelters poorly made,

When death reveals truth, and life starts to fade.

– eab, 5/16/08

Books in Prayer Closet # 1. The most important Book to have in your Secret Closet is the Good Book. Have a straight-edge & pens. Red for one line of truth, blue for another. Or use a highlighter to mark special passages [check highlighter on last page; see if it “bleeds-through” – depends on paper or highlighter or both]. If praying becomes a bit hard you may want to read the Bible & then take heed to what the Spirit shows you in such times.

– 5/16/19

Col 3.16

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching & admonishing one another

in psalms & hymns & spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

Books in Prayer Closet # 2. The 2nd most important Book for is a hymnal. Be willing to mark it also. You could read a hymn to start or one to finish – you might go on for a time from the “fuel” of it. If you are struggling to pray, start reading some hymns. (I’d encourage you to read them in order & leave a marker to use next time.) BTW you don’t have to be able to read music to read the words (really a poem) nor do you need to “know it” to read it. Many hymns were written when pressure was on & that comes through.

– 5/16/19

“Preach damnation with the cross in the center.”

– Wm Booth, quoted by Andrew Blackwood

Books in Prayer Closet # 3. Why not take a notebook to the closet? It could hold a prayer list. Some like to note date when they start praying for a certain thing & then date when “the Lord comes through!” It could be divided into sections with a place for ideas that come to you while praying & meditating before God.

– 5/16/19

“It is the joyous privilege of the man in the pulpit to see the hidden things of God

& then show them to the man in the pew.”

– Andrew Blackwood

“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another & be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud & giveth grace to the humble.”

To forestall jealously among the brethren & covetousness on the part of the disciples

Jesus bids them stay in the same house throughout their sojourn in that place.”

– Dietrich Bonoeffer, /Cost…Discipleship/

Are you in subjection to, or a subject of, The Triune God?

Are you His servant? You’re good company: Paul (Rom 1.1), James (Jam 1.1), & Jude (Jud 1.1) were.

Are you His child? Good, “Children of God” are mentioned (Mat 5.9, Rom 8.13ff, 1Jo 3.10ff).

Or do you see yourself as a part of His bride? “…The Spirit & the bride say Come” (Rev 22.17).

Subjects are in subjection to the King. Servants are subject to a Master. Children are in subjection to Father.

A wife is subject to her Husband. In whatever position we envision ourselves we’re in subjection. Amen.

– eab, 3/11/19

“Only he who believes is obedient & only he who is obedient believes.”

– Dietrich Bonoeffer, /Cost…Discipleship/

LOOK

Look around you

At the things that astound you

And the thoughts that confound you

At the objects that would drawn you.

Looking around can hound you.

The Cry of alarm is “Look out.”

The Calm of heaven’s charm is “Look up.”

– eab, 3/6/12

“If you reject truth & won’t believe the truth

what else [can] you believe but a lie?”

– V O Agan, sermon 2/12/98

God, of course, is the source of all Truth. The devil is the source of all lies.

The man who speaks Truth is but a mouth piece for the Lord.

The guy who spews lies is a spokesperson for satan.

A Truth teller does his best to not repeat lies but the lie teller will mix a little truth in to make his fiction more acceptable. – eab, 3/11/19

Jos 24.15

“…Choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

You have your strengths (maybe/maybe not, the same as “talents”). Be glad for them, thank God for your strengths but do not glory in them. Do not brag about them (one or more could be taken away in an accident). But you also have your weaknesses. Implore God’s help for them. Do not allow them to totally discourage you but being aware of them may help keep them from spreading & always gives you reason for true humility.

– eab, 3/5/19

“It is absolutely wrong to pray about something

you already know is wrong.”

– V O Agan, IHC sermon 4/8/86
