Gen 2.24

“Therefore shall a man leave his father & his mother

& shall cleave unto his wife: & they shall be one flesh.”

“Is it not common for interested persons to rejoice in the success of an unjust & sanguinary war,

in the sackage & burning of cities…if such christians can be saved, demons need not despair.”

– Adam Clarke

Your mind has 2 important portals, secondary, but still strong: your ears. They were the 1st ones you used. Studies (unless I’m mistaken) show you recognized voices before being birth. After birth, you Heard much of what you learned & childhood sounds became pleasing or displeasing to you. Parental music choices, sounds of the sea, or wind’s whorl influenced your mind via the ear ports. Please, Friend, be careful about what you hear – ears funnel info directly to your mind. – 1/2/20

“It is easier for most men to walk with a perfect heart in church,

or even in the world, than in their own families.”

– Adam Clarke

“…The poor man that loveth Christ is richer

than the greatest man in the world that hates him.”

– John Bunyan

Are there more important doors to your mind? Yes! Eyes. Once upon-a-time no one watched TV; it didn’t exist. The “moving-picture-show” did earlier; few evangelicals or holiness people went to theaters. When TV showed up Christians had to choose. Too many bought 1, too many got Hooked on “innocent” shows. When programs got more risqué too few had the intestinal fortitude to stop. My in-laws never had a TV, my parents never had 1, and my wife & I’ve never had TV. We’re clean all the way back to Adam. – 1/3/20

“I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes…” [ reminder: TVs were once called TV “sets”]

Internet entered the entertainment scene. That, along with smart phones allow people to see 1000’s of movies. CHRISTIAN – allow me to urge, stop looking at movies so much. The images are often immodest or pornographic. The dialogues use suggestive &/or filthy words. People who claim to Love Jesus are filling their minds with vile characters. They’re enthralled with scenes where everything is fake. They are immersed in hollywood’s (disney’s also) make-believe world which leads downward toward hell. – 1/3/20

“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother &

shall cleave unto his wife: & they shall be one flesh.”

“Abraham had nothing to go on but the Word of God.

When God spoke, Abraham listened & obeyed.”

– S D Herron, sermon (uncertain date)

“Husbands love your wives? – ah that’s easy.” Not if you’re still carnal. Even after you’re sanctified she’ll at times try your patience. But love her. She’s our “other self.” “Wives obey your husbands? Are you kidding? That’s not what TV(etc.) teaches.” No, worldly women have been, are, & will be filled with self-will. Only a sanctified wife will fully succeed here. But try it. Obey him as you’d like to be obeyed if the roles were reversed. Our children need to see Dad loving & Mom obeying.

– eab, 3/4/19

“Abraham knew from where he was going. Ur is thought to have been one of the thriving cities…He knew from where he was leaving…home, family…civilization…”

– S D Herron, sermon (uncertain date)

Seems some people are seeking to shun,

The awards their own age has won,

They try to dress like their daughter,

Vainly hoping to “be her sister,”

Or try to “play” like their grown son.

Age is an item which has no reverse,

You get “the part,” though you didn’t rehearse.

You can dab on a layer or two of paint,

Do exercises where you nearly faint,

No avail – birthdays get “worse and worse.”

God is sending us a reminder with age,

Let us LEARN to relish each passing stage.

You fool no one with paint, but you

(Relax – they’re getting older too! J)

Getting older, one-day-at-a-time, is “the rage.”

Mar 12.17

“And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s & to God the things that are God’s. And they marveled at him.”

What is possibly the most important *parental* verse in the NT? “…Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s & to God the things that are God’s…”(Mar 12.17b). “Caesar” here, of course, represents government – it mints/prints the money so it has its image. Please, Brother/Sister, don’t get too upset about money: it’s just money (i.e. replaceable), it IS in a sense theirs anyway, & you can’t “take it with you.” Your child is made in God’s image. He/she is an immortal soul & therefore can’t be replaced. He/she is never the state’s; hear it, Never! In a sense he is not yours either – he/she is God’s (just as you are). And – – – unlike cash, you & I via prayer & clean living can take our child with us to heaven. Give him to God.

“Powerless lives, fruitless lives are a certain result of life in which the grace of God is frustated, the commandments of God violated, & light rejected.”

– George B Kulp, “Voice fr.Eternity”

The school/college has rules against dressing with “…gold…pearls…”(1Ti 2.9b). Students are not to wear these nor teachers/staff. (This is appropriate for careful institutions sending graduates to careful i.e. non-worldly churches.) Why is a man speaking in chapel (or class) who violates these rules? “He has a doctorate in “x” (any number of disciplines) & students need to hear him.” Oh? Enough for you to disregard your rules? You say “students needed to hear him” what they learned was a Biblical stance can be waved for a mere mortal, PhD or no.

“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and

shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

“…The experience of heart purity is obtained while obediently walking with God &

retained only while obediently keeping His commandments.”

– Wm Jones, MD, /The Double Cure/

The happiest homes are the holiest homes: where each loves the other & both love the Lord. Do not, young man, marry until you know you’re all God’s & have assurance that the one you’re pursuing is all His. Do not, young lady agree to marriage unless you know you’re a Believer & that the one who is interested in marrying you is a Believer. Whether you’re committed to “courtship” or “dating” make sure you see the other in enough circumstances till you know they’re real & not faking “christianity until after the wedding.

“Fanaticism is never charitable.”

– Abel Stevens, /History of Methodism/

At times–who can but honestly admit the stage?

The family altar would be calm and dry.

No quiver filled the voice, no moisture trimmed the eye.

Yon Ancient History stayed just that–flat as the page.

Distant battles were read, but did not seem to rage.

Light, the soul of poetry, was not freshly lit.

Finally–devotions closed, they closed with a sigh.

Ah, but those other nights–precious, dear other nights,

In moments for which no dad or moma prepares;

A son leading out in prayer, thanks God for his stairs.

Verses once seen but darkly, take on brighter lights,

God illuminates truth which once held no delights.

His Word will not return to Him void

He, Himself so solemnly declares.

Liberty – the right to do what you should.”

– David Gibbs, attorney

Eph 5.27

“That he might present it to himself a glorious church,

not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”

You attend a holiness church. When is the last time you’ve heard a board member/deacon testify to being wonderfully touched by the Spirit? When’s the last time God broke up your “Sunday school” class & the glory settled in? When is the last time a 6-9 day meeting saw seekers pray through to clear full-salvation? Not trying to be unkind but we need the Lord to help our “holiness” churches to be lead by the Holy Ghost. Does that sound good to you? Good enough to pray? Good enough to hunger after God again?

‘Tis Anniversary Week * #4. Do marriages have differences? Our parents: one family was buying a home – one lived in a mobile home, one attended a Pilgrim Holiness church – one a Wesleyan Methodist, one dad drove a Buick – one a VW (neither mom drove), one was used to country living – one to town life, one family was military – one not, one dad graduated high school – one did a GED, one was southern – one northern, one dad no longer hunted – one dad coon hunted, one couple sang in church – family only the dad did, one tended to vote Republican – one voted Democrat, one dad was very mechanical – one was not, one family enjoyed travel – one did not. A dozen differences – we made it 57 yr J. – eab, June 18

* TRINITY * (10.)

1Th 1.3 Jesus Christ, in the sight of God…v5…Holy Ghost…

greatest miracle

The Lord turned water into wine

He caused 5000 men to dine

Healed blind eyes and deaf ears

Relieved other physical fears

Caused the ship to be at shore

Christ did miracles galore!

The greatest miracle to ever be?

Redeeming the likes of you and me.

Act 4.26

“The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together

against the Lord, and against his Christ.”

My memory goes back to the Stevenson/Eisenhower race. I’ve never read such as I have the last months. Do I speak of anti-president words? Yes. But I also speak of pro-president words – particularly from holiness men. Your praise, brothers, doesn’t make him one whit better. It may come back to “bite” you. Please don’t split a church, family, or other insisting in a perceived strength of “x.” He’ll sink or swim as God ordains. Pray for him (I do) but no man can save this nation. The Man-God, Christ, is our only hope!

– eab, 5/25/18

“…Christianity is an education itself. That is why an uneducated believer

like Bunyan was able to write a book that has astonished the world.”

– C S Lewis, /Mere Christianity/

The distractions (to right – to left, to Extreme right – to Extreme left) are too numerous for this little post. How the enemy of our souls must “enjoy” (I’m not sure he’s every happy, per se) seeing supposed “christians” trying to satisfy “eternal cravings” with his temporary tinselry. Earth was not intended as your final destination. It is (at best) a short “layover.” (Some of us lay-over longer than others but we’re all soon gone.) Stop getting enamored with imitations. Stop “buying-into” amusements. Earth fades – Heaven endures. Ask God for a vision of heaven.
