Animals for God’s Word

Many a sheep (its mutton consumed) gave its skin

whereupon a prophet recorded the Word of God.

Many a goose (its flesh consumed) gave it quill to be sharpened

scratching out in a poet’s hand, Heaven’s Holy Word.

Many a root or berry (instead of being consumed) stained in purposeful loops and lines

the words of the law in Moses’ educated hand.
