ON THIS DATE

Sir Isaac Newton was born (premature) 1/4/1643 (N.S.) in the hamlet of Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England, only son of a prosperous farmer, also Isaac Newton, who died three months before he was born.  His mother remarried, leaving him with her mother.  After her 2nd husband died (when Isaac was about 12) she was reunited with Isaac but his person was damaged by her absent years.  Newton never married (peers thought him a virgin) perhaps as a result of his mother’s action.

The world has long recognized Newton’s great scientific mind (2nd scientist ever knighted) and STILL recognizes his genius.  What the world doesn’t honor is the fact that he wrote more words in Commentary on the Bible than he did about science.  His thoughts on Daniel and Revelation are available on internet and worth reading.  Newton died 3/31/1727.

Newton quotes:

“…Giving ear to the Prophets is a fundamental character of the true Church.”

“The predictions of things to come relate to the state of the Church in all ages: and amongst the old Prophets, Daniel is most distinct in order of time, and easiest to be understood:”

Daniel was in the greatest credit amongst the Jews, till the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian: and to reject his Prophecies, is to reject the Christian religion. For this religion is founded upon his Prophecy concerning the Messiah.”  – Observations Upon the Prophecies of Daniel, London: Darby & Browne, chap.1.

…amongst the old Prophets, Daniel is most distinct in order of time, and easiest to be understood: and therefore in those things which relate to the last times, he must be made the key to the rest. (Ch.1)

The Prophecies of Daniel are all of them related to one another…every following Prophecy adds something new to the former.            (Ch.3)

Seeing therefore the body of the third Beast is confined to the nations on this side the river Euphrates, and the body of the fourth Beast is confined to the nations on this side Greece; we are to look for all the four heads of the third Beast, among the nations on this side of the river Euphrates; and for all the eleven horns of the fourth Beast, among the nations on this side of Greece.            (Ch.4)

Isaac Newton on this date, 1/26/1697 received from Jean [1] Bernoulli’s (bĕrn yē’), a six month time-limit-problem.  Isaac had the answer before he retired for bed that evening.

 Newton said:

“Opposition to godliness is atheism in profession and idolatry in practice.  Atheism is so senseless and odious to mankind that it never had many professors.” 2

“This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent Being…This Being governs all things, not as the soul of the world, but as Lord over all; and on account of his dominion he is wont to be called “Lord God” παντοκρατωρ (pantokratòr) or “Universal Ruler”…The Supreme God is a Being eternal, infinite, absolutely perfect.” 3

Daniel was in the greatest credit amongst the Jews, till the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian: and to reject his Prophecies, is to reject the Christian religion. For this religion is founded upon his Prophecy concerning the Messiah.

Soon after, upon Christmas-day, the people of Rome, who had hitherto elected their Bishop, and reckoned that they and their Senate inherited the rights of the antient Senate and people of Rome, voted Charles their Emperor, and subjected themselves to him in such manner as the old Roman Empire and their Senate were subjected to the old Roman Emperors. The Pope crowned him, and anointed him with holy oil, and worshipped him on his knees after the manner of adoring the old Roman Emperors; as the aforesaid Poet thus relates:

This Leopard reigning in his four heads, signifies the same thing with the He-Goat reigning in his four horns: and therefore the He-Goat reigned in his four horns till the rise of Daniel‘s fourth Beast, or Empire of the Latins:

The Prophecy of the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven relates to the second coming of Christ; that of the Prince of the host relates to his first coming: and this Prophecy of the Messiah, in explaining them, relates to both comings, and assigns the times thereof.

We avoid also the doing violence to the language of Daniel, by taking the seven weeks and sixty two weeks for one number. Had that been Daniel‘s meaning, he would have said sixty and nine weeks, and not seven weeks and sixty two weeks, a way of numbring used by no nation.

Isaac Newton died this date (3/31/1727-N.S.) Kensington, England.

Prophecies of Daniel and Apocalypse of John – Isaac Newton

The former part of the Prophecy related to the first coming of Christ, being dated to his coming as a Prophet; this being dated to his coming to be Prince or King, seems to relate to his second coming. There, the Prophet was consummate, and the most holy anointed: here, he that was anointed comes to be Prince and to reign. For Daniel‘s Prophecies reach to the end of the world; and there is scarce a Prophecy in the Old Testament concerning Christ, which doth not in something or other relate to his second coming. If divers of the antients, as [8] Irenæus, [9] Julius Africanus, Hippolytus the martyr, and Apollinaris Bishop of Laodicea, applied the half week to the times of Antichrist; why may not we, by the same liberty of interpretation, apply the seven weeks to the time when Antichrist shall be destroyed by the brightness of Christ‘s coming?

                – Chapter X

We avoid also the doing violence to the language of Daniel, by taking the seven weeks and sixty two weeks for one number. Had that been Daniel‘s meaning, he would have said sixty and nine weeks, and not seven weeks and sixty two weeks, a way of numbering used by no nation. In our way the years are Jewish Luni-solar years, [11] as they ought to be;

                – Chapter X

Thus the Empire of the Greeks, which at first brake into four kingdoms, became now reduced into two notable ones, henceforward called by Daniel the kings of the South and North.

                – Chapter XII

Isaac Newton was a serious student of Scripture as well as a scientist – interesting combination.
