Joh 10.6 +

Joh 10.6

“This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not

what things they were which he spake unto them.”

…Persons who disguise that part of their creed [that] would make them unpopular…moderation in order to procure a larger audience & more extensive support; not attacking prevalant & popular vices…”

– Adam Clarke

24 of 46 “…Pride & arrogancy…do I hate”(Pro 8.13).

Isa 28.1 Woe to the crown of PRIDE, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!

“Shun all controversies about politics…though I have often heard it,

I never knew an instance of its doing good…”

– Adam Clarke, /Christian Theology/

WORD ABOVE ART

The Lord paints without paint,

And He draws without a pencil stroke;

Makes music without an instrument

Passing wind across willow & oak.

Creates forms with water, running oft & long,

And gives a tiny bird its trilly, tweety song.

God’s Artist magnificent (if that’s not to crass a word).

“Word”? Ah, there it is – the best way He’s daily heard

Enjoy His art a little today,

Mainly – though – read His Word.

It never passes away.

Christ was the most authentic Person to walk the earth. If we’re serious about being “Christ-like” we’re very interested in being authentic. Synonyms for authentic are genuine & real; an antonym is fake – “Hello? anybody home?” Be, friend, who you really are, day-in, day-out. Heaven will have only authentic people. Hell will have the ones who were satisfied, even happy, with “…deceiving & being deceived” (2Ti 3.13).

Psa 1.1

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,

nor standeth in the way of sinners,

nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”

The greatest man, from a human stand point, is the most self-sufficient one. He grows his own food (some-to-most), makes his home (fancy/simple but either way debt-free), creates his tools, &/or trades/barters his needs, enjoys re-doing/making-do with what he has. He’s to be admired. The greatest man, from Heaven’s view, is the most God-relying one. He looks to God (Living Word, & printed Word) for spiritual food, invites God daily into his home & enjoys the communion he has with the Lord. He’s to be imitated.

“…The Holy Ghost teaches, preaches, & declares Christ…we must first hear the Word

& then afterwards the Holy Ghost works in our hearts…”

– Martin Luther /TableTalk/

When God is honest with you & your spiritual condition, don’t be aggravated. Thank Him. That’s what He is – Honest. We could n’ver have a better God than One who’s perfectly Honest with us. By contrast when you find out that satan has lied to you, don’t be surprised – that’s what he & his helpers do. You can expect nothing better from him, e-v-e-r. One of the greatest skills you can acquire is “voice recognition” i.e. learn to tell the voice of the Lord from the voice of His (& your) arch enemy. God is honest – satan is dishonest. – 6/18/19

“None of the fathers of the church made mention of original sin

until Augustine came…”

– Martin Luther /TableTalk/
