King James – authorized

King James on 2/10/1604 authorized an English Bible translation.  By 1607 the teams were ready & by 1611 the Authorized Bible was complete. More people are in heaven because of this Bible than ANY other!

A little about the man – he was born 6/19/1566, became King James VI of Scotland, 7/24/1567 and King James I of England, 7/25/1603. He married Anne of Denmark (11/24/1589); they had 3 sons & 5 daughters & unlike many kings/presidents (L) is not known to have had any other sexual partner. 

James was a most intellectual king, being influent in Greek, Latin & French. He wrote more books than any other reigning monarch. Partial list includes: a private Translation of Psalms, Commentary on Revelation, Devotional series on the Lord’s Prayer, Demonology (identifying witch powers with demon possession), The Essays of a Prentice in the Divine Art of Poesy, His Majesties Poetical Exercises at Vacant Hours, Basilikon Doron, & “A Counterblast to Tobacco”(1604) an essay attacking smoking. His books exposing demons & smoking help explain the enmity (in addition to the KJV) which has been stirred against him.

A KJV Translator – born

George Abbot was born 10/29/1562.  He was the second of eight scholars at Oxford chosen by King James I to translate the famous Authorized Version (aka KJV).  He worked on the Gospels, Acts, and Revelation.  Later he was appointed Bishop of London, then Archbishop of Canterbury. 

As archbishop, he opposed the King on several occasions, including the Book of Sports (1618) by which King James promoted recreations on Sunday.  He was a Calvinist in theology and supported the simplicity of worship promoted by the Puritans.

King James – authorized a Bible, Feb. 10, 1604

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.      Psa 23

 

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign;

 Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and

 shall call his name Immanuel.  Isa 7.14

 

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3.16

 

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the

 which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and

 the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and

 the works that are therein shall be burned up.  2 P2 3.10

 

King James authorized this date (2/10/09) scholars to produce the Bible commonly called the King James Version (KJV) but also known as the Authorized Version.  47 scholars worked on it.  The AV (a k a, KJV) was finished in 1611.  It is a beautiful, classic Text – reader, Please READ It.
