Luther Quote

“…The prophet Daniel rightly pictured the pope, that he would be a king, that would according to his own will, that is, would regard neither spirituality nor temporality.”

Table Talk, p.186

Christians – it’s wise to avoid extreme opinions on items not concerning the soul. Some stories make police look good – some show brutality. Truth-be-known, both have validity; don’t climb on either “band wagon.” Some people have desecrated the flag – others have over-reacted with near “flag worship.” Don’t do either. Media (controlled?) may have an agenda. Don’t allow its hype to shift your footing an 1/8th of an inch – be anchored on the Bible, not on “news” (including your favorite “conservative”).

Upon a tree with serrated leaf, I found,

A fresh nut growing, smooth and round.

It had grown all summer, at its best,

But September still found it far from rest.

Its shape was right, its form – “No sweat.”

But maturity it was striving for, and

Hadn’t reached there yet.

Its size told that – a little small,

Give it time, “Rome wasn’t built in a fall.”

Its color also revealed its youth,

Now, don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t uncouth.

It just lacked the brown of Autumn’s tone,

The pastel acorns claim for their own.

I’m sure given time it will be just right,

Big, full-fruited, sealed Tupperware-tight,

Grown-up color, maturity’s stroke,

The future, miniature, enduring oak.

But this morning, it’s not ready for all that,

Growing feet above the forest floor-mat.

This morning it’s ready to be youthful and green,

To stick by its place and flourish unseen.

I’ve expressed in part what I felt to tell,

Youth to maturity – in a nutshell.

Never “partner” with anyone (regardless of good looks, “charm” or strengths) whose prime goal is less than clear obedience to The Almighty: not close friendships, not dating, definitely not marriage.

– eab, 9/26/17

“How monotonously alike all the great tyrants and conquerors have been:

how gloriously different are the saints.”

– C. S. Lewis, from his BEYOND PERSONALITY

Jude 14

“And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying,

‘Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,’”

Some Christians are worried about ball players and the anthem.

Christian, what about the fact that they “work” on the specific Christian Day of Worship?

Christian, what about their many alleged acts of depravity?

Christian, what about their ridiculous pay checks?

Christian, what about these demigods virtually “being” in your family room?

Luther Quote

“…Truth is a hateful thing;

he that, in these times, speaks the truth, procures hatred.”

Table Talk, p.177

Churchill’s “History is written by the victors,” has detractors but few “losers” have the privacy to write or resources to publish “their side.” It would seem that much “history” (American/world) is the “official” story, i.e. story officials want you to accept. If history is your interest you’ve a challenge to peel back this country’s account, that ethnic groups tales, & the religious clique’s lines & find the genuine. It may actually be better to be a “little historically illiterate” as to parrot to your children (blood or classroom) stories which have more “sanction” than reality.

– eab, 9/18/17

I’m rich in wealth that banks can’t hold;

I’m rich in treasures that do not jingle or fold.

Grandsons and granddaughters * beat gold;

They’re your child’s child and also heaven’s mold.

– eab, 9/18/14  (* blessed with 18)

Parents who’re themselves divorce/remarried, D/R (and defend their deed) shouldn’t be surprised when a child also fails to keep his “till-death-do-us-part” promise. Parents whose marriage is legit but who show acceptance for D/R likewise should not be shocked when “Jr.” leaves his wife for another. When a parent has the strongest of stands against divorce/remarriage there’s no guarantee their children will not fall into this horrible trap, but it may be a small deterrent.

“…That man that takes up religion for the world

will throw away religion for the world.”

– John Bunyan, Pilgrim’s Progress

Isa 38. 8

“Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz,

ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.”

“…Science falsely so called” (Paul distinctly warns his spiritual son about it, 1Ti 6.20.) has painted itself as either knowing the answers or supposedly seeking them. As long as you and I believe their little theories they are empowered. When we awaken to purposeful deception and spoof them, they lose their “authority” and are seen as the foolish guys they really are. T*H*I*N*K.

Luther Quote

“Nothing is more pernicious than sophistry;

we are by nature prone to believe lies rather than truth.”

Table Talk, p.138

I grew up with the expression, “Don’t believe anything you hear & only half what you see.” That was before TV/hollywood became so rampant. A more correct version might be, “Don’t believe anything you hear or see.” High-class cartoons, sophisticated photo-shopping & CGI (computer generated images) make nearly any picture suspect. BUT there is still one Book (I highly recommend the AV/KJV) you can read & fully trust.

One Lord, One Faith, ONE baptism

Some people are immersed in water,

And consider their salvation done,

Ignoring there’s a baptism,

Beyond John’s – by the only Son.

Fire from heaven purges the inside,

Where water’s wetness can never reach,

Fiery Holy Ghost baptism –

ONE baptism that is for each.

MOONLIGHT >> for thinkers only <<

1.Gen 1.16…God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day…the lesser LIGHT to rule the night

  1. Isa 13.10c …the moon shall not cause her LIGHT to shine.
  2. Isa 30.26 Moreover the LIGHT of the moon shall be as the light of the sun…
  3. Isa 60.19b …neither for brightness shall the moon give LIGHT unto thee…

Q – Why have “Bible-believing” souls struggled (outright refused) to believe the moon IS its own Light?

A – We’re taught by “science” it’s a “reflector,” taught this “makes sense,” shown “models” of a theory.

– eab, 9/8/17

MOONLIGHT (con’t)   >> for thinkers only <<

  1. Eze 32.7c …the moon shall not give her LIGHT.
  2. Mat 24.29b …the moon shall not give her LIGHT…
  3. Mar 13.24c …the moon shall not give her LIGHT (all caps, eab)

Q – Why have “Bible-believing” souls struggled (outright refused) to believe the moon IS its own Light?

A – We’re taught by “science” it’s a “reflector,” taught this “made sense,” and shown “models” of a theory.

Does it no longer matter what the Bible states? Stop accepting “science” as god.

“What shall it profit a man if he shall gain all the learning

of the schools and lose his faith in God?”

– William Jennings Bryan, from his IN HIS IMAGE

1Co 1. 21

“For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God,

it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”

My wife grew up (TN) with the expression, “The day you don’t learn something new you die.” The other day I saw weird, gray insects in our backyard. Each fall trying to teach biology (FL, OH, TN) I had students do insect collections – no one handed in such a critter. I looked up beneficial insects (don’t want to kill the “good guys”) & there he was: The Wheel Bug. Seems he’s named for what looks like a half or a third wheel (think gear with teeth sticking up) on his thorax behind his small, elongated head. He eats soft-bodied, garden pests so I spared him & his “girl friend” – – – & I learned something new. J

A Quote From Luther

“…So have I been a blasphemer of God who for the space of 15 years…blasphemed God with celebrating that abominable idol, the mass.”

Table Talk, p.115

Friend, may I urge you to examine your priorities. You have 24 hours every day to abuse or use. You can while-a-way hours in silly trivia or you can accomplish true work. You can arrange, re-arrange and then arrange again irrelevant ticky-tacky or you can build, paint, remodel, improve a tool, an engine, a piece of furniture etc. You can play with your hobby, watch your sport, take unnecessary naps or you can write, practice, perfect the important areas of real life. Stop friend, stop, wasting your life on trifles.

– eab, 9/5/17

To study prophecy is right,

Learn what will help you see the light,

Discern the figures that are dark,

Decide whose “bite” is worse than “bark,”

As the world’s day slopes into night.

– eab, Sep. ’07

Your head can be your own heart’s worst enemy. Scripture doesn’t say with the head man believeth but “…with the heart man believeth unto righteousness…Rom 10.10a. “Head” / “heart” start with the same letters. Head’s ending “D” could stand for “damnation” while the “R T” of heart could stand for Right Thinking. “…the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God” (1Co 3.19).

forgiveness is

full; it is

free, it is

– Andrew W Blackwood, Preaching From the Bible

Col 1. 14

“In whom we have redemption through his blood,

even the forgiveness of sins:”

The Broad-Way (Mat 7.13) has the largest assortment of miscellanea on earth: from 1% “right” (criminals, brutes, charlatans), to the 51% “right” (church members, professional Gospel Singers) to the 99% “right” (“good” people who reject the experience of the Holy Heart for which Christ provided, Heb 13.12). The Narrow-Way has an almost unbelievably l-i-k-e-n-e-s-s: each one, who though once carnal, so hungered /thirsted after righteousness (Mat 5.6) that they were FILLED with God = 100% Right. In. His. Sight.

A Quote From Luther

“Whoso harkens not to God’s voice is an idolater

though he perform the highest and most heavy service of God.”

Table Talk, p.72

You should only consult a “study Bible” – not read It (It only) for devotions. Why? If It’s your only Bible open, you may read the Text, then allow your eye to drop to an asterisk/numbered footnote & read it. Later you may think, “I read that in the Bible,” forgetting if you read the word/term in the inspired Text or the definitely un-inspired comments of man. As I understand, King James purposely wanted the Authorized Version printed without notes. I say a sound “Amen.” Notes can be dangerous.

Tall fields of green, tasseled, Ohio corn,

Aroma of fresh mown clover and hay,

Baby’s skin; the softest ever worn,

Crisp night dividing day from day,

Sunrise on beach, O, the beautiful morn,

Valleys were fogs come to play;

Make you glad that you were born.

These, God used this earth to adorn.

– eab, August  1970

If you want someone to succeed you share knowledge with them. If you want them to fail you withhold that knowledge. If you love a person you share truth with them. If you see them as competition you might keep truth from them. If you want the best for an individual you teach him facts (& how to use those facts). If you want to control an individual you might teach him factoids; but let him think he knows “facts.”

“…it is but bread…if you keep your god 3 months in a chest letting it be, it will mould & rot…is that a god that cannot endure 3 months”

– Ann Askew, she died a martyr, 1546.

Heb 11. 35b

“…others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:”

Enjoy your “domain” be it a 3rd floor walkup-flat or a western ranch section or two. Learn to be content – uh – make that L-E-A-R-N to be content. (Even Paul had to learn – Php 4.11.) Look at the nicest view inside your domain & enjoy it. Find the window with the brightest scene outside your domain & enjoy it. Find a near park, section of peaceful lane, etc. where you can walk & find pleasure thereby. The enemy of life (both spiritual & physical) wants you to feel discontent. Don’t. Learn to be content. Start NOW.

We did not buy special glasses. We did not travel to a distant point. We DID see the eclipse that was available at our cottage. I recognized the sunlight was looking different & stepped under the edge of our back-door stoop, glanced (only) sunward, & saw an aura of color around it. Then, on God’s great cue, a cloud, then another, then another moved from west to east & through them we briefly viewed the moon over part of the sun. It looked like what our Andrew once called a “finger-nail moon.” 8/22/17
