Joseph Addison and Richard Steele easily referred to as Addison and Steele started a paper (in England) call the “The Spectator.”  The expressed goal of this paper was “to enliven morality with wit, and to temper wit with morality…to bring philosophy out of the closets and libraries, schools and colleges, to dwell in clubs and assemblies, at tea-tables and coffeehouses” (No. 10).

The March 8th edition (1711 – three hundred years ago today) Addison is said to have said,

“To be an atheist requires an infinitely greater measure of faith than to receive all the great truths which atheism would deny.”  Amen.
