If we all had faith to wait upon God in intense believing prayer there would be genuine Holy Ghost revival, and the living God would get all the glory. In Manchuria and China, when we did nothing else than give the address and let the people pray, and kept out of sight as far as possible, we saw the mightiest manifestations of Divine power.

            – Smith, Oswald J. The Revival We Need, London: Marshall, Morgan & Scott, 1953,  –  from preface by Jonathan Goforth,

…We speak of the manifestations at Pentecost as being abnormal, yet we maintain that Pentecost was normal Christianity.

Jonathan Goforth, By My Spirit (Minneapolis: Bethany Fellowship, 1964), 10.

Our Lord did not permit His chosen followers to witness a word in His name until endued with power from on high. It is true that before that day they were the “born-again” children of the Father and had the witness of the Spirit. But they were not the Lord’s efficient co-workers and never could be until Spirit-filled.

Jonathan Goforth, By My Spirit, (Minneapolis: Bethany Fellowship, 1964), 11.

There can be no alternative; it is either Holy Ghost revival or apostasy.

Jonathan Goforth, By My Spirit, (Minneapolis: Bethany Fellowship, 1964), 13.

We cannot emphasize too strongly our conviction that all hindrance in the Church is due to sin.

Jonathan Goforth, By My Spirit, (Minneapolis: Bethany Fellowship, 1964), 13.

Surely, since the sinless Son of God had to be made sin for us an over‑emphasis upon sin is in the nature of things impossible.

Jonathan Goforth, By My Spirit, (Minneapolis: Bethany Fellowship, 1964), 16.

Discipline must be seen as a servant, not a savoir…Discipline unquestionably makes a man superior.  If not watched, it will make him feel superior.

Faith can release in a moment powers for holiness that discipline cannot command in a millennium.

The baptism of the Hoy Spirit gives neither a trained mind nor trained hands.  The holiest soul may be ignorant, awkward, and blundering…he may have no trade, skill, art, or profession.  But not for long.

– Richard Taylor, The Disciplined Life (Minneapolis: Bethany Fellowship Inc., 1962), 60.

In God’s Kingdom…a man’s salvation rarely comes without the prayers of another who labors unseen.

– George MacDonald, The Minister’s Restoration (Minneapolis: Bethany House Pub., 1988), 19.

Never did his face light up when he spoke of the Son of God, of his death, or of his resurrection.  Never did he make mention of the kingdom of heaven as if it were anything more venerable than the kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.

– George MacDonald, The Minister’s Restoration (Minneapolis: Bethany House Pub., 1988), 61.

For God is love, and love is that which is, and was, and shall be for evermore – boundless, unconditional, self-existent, creative!

– George MacDonald, The Minister’s Restoration (Minneapolis: Bethany House Pub., 1988), 117.

The heart o’ both king and cobbler’s in the hand o’ the Lord…

 – George MacDonald, The Minister’s Restoration (Minneapolis: Bethany House Pub., 1988), 147.

Ignorant people go abut always asking why God permits evil.  We know why!  So that we might know – really know – what good is like, and therefore what God himself is like.
