IMAGINE YOURSELF (7th card) [1]

Imagine yourself:

               At the manger that night

When the shepherds came, in joy and fright.

               When the wise men arrived

To worship the King they knew was alive.

               In that eventful place,

Infinite God with a baby’s round face.

Imagine, imagine a Gift for mean men.

God gave His Son; O, Glory! Amen!

Then – – imagine yourself with only one son,

The price to be paid for a world to be won.

Imagine your son:

               In a carpenter’s shop

Sweaty, tired, dirty, ready to drop.

On azure Galilee with common men,

               Especially those three.

In the garden’s pale light groaning,

               Praying, desiring the right.

               At Pilate’s dark hall thorn-crowned,

               Whip-beaten, deserted by all.

               On that wooden frame –

Gone friends, followers, gone earthly fame.

Imagine yourself God, that Bethlehem morn,

Knowing your Son would die, nail and spear-torn.

And when you’ve imagined from beginning to end,

Reality reveals, God Loves You, My Friend!

SON (6th card)

Clear, blue skies over school house roofs,

Literary names and geometric proofs,

The notes of teachers and the student’s goofs,

All and more to remember, from inspiring September.

Corn, brown, tall with tasseled bloom at top,

Apples, ruby red, cider, cream of that crop,

Hickory, butter, walnuts suspended to drop,

These blessings I remember, from joyous October.

Chilly, gray days, bare structured, gray trees,

Sketched by Jack, dewy light panes freeze,

Thank God for bounty, and eat all you please.

Happiness to remember, from great November.

The previous three months spell the word SON.

I’m so glad God had and gave us One.

And when gifts and visiting are all done,

Him I would remember, December till December.

CHRIST’S COMING (5th card)

Prophet and king had gladly told

And written it with care.

The young had learned it from the old,

Both delighted in the share.

The beggar heard it and believed

In His future wealthy reign.

Oppressed people were not grieved,

A loving Ruler, they were to gain.

They wanted Christ, That Chosen Race.

Although the Book told the place,

They missed Him. A sad case!

Pastor and layman with voices bold

And teachers also bear,

The message, “We are cold, too cold

To go with Him, so fair.”

We’ve been chilled and deceived,

By “riches”, in the main.

I’m afraid we’d be relieved

If He didn’t come again.

Relieved, because of our slow pace.

Relieved, we lack His offered grace.

Relieved, not to see Him face to face.

Years have now past since He was seen last,

In Jerusalem or Bethany.

His step in the land is not on the sand,

At Jordan or blue Galilee.

Some men have said (they’re long since dead)

That He would be forgot.

Where are they now – who were they, anyhow?

I’d like to tell them a lot.

That Life has changed, that Influence ranged,

To men of every clime.

And even the date, is not by fate,

But according to His time.

He didn’t publish a book, notes He never took;

A few sermons He gave,

On justice and peace, joy that will not cease,

And words on how to behave.

His travel was small, not far at all,

His life – an untimely end.

But enough to reach, ole time to breach

Centuries, the story to send.

So there in part, weak rhyme, less art,

Are thoughts on my Lord.

This season of the year, praise to Him so dear

The Living Eternal Word.

Is it just Christmas, again,

In a world of war and sin?

Another year of tinsel and paper;

Of glamorous gifts, paid for later,

Of loveless homes and empty lives,

And husbands separate from their wives?

Another day, the same as last,

The only difference, a year has past?

No, this year can be,

A joyous Christian reality.

A year when Christ is personal,

Yes, more than an year, eternal;

The Lord of your life, and heart

If not now, then now start.

C. H. R. I. S. T. M. A. S. (2nd card) (song) [1]

Christ, Creator, came to comfort,

Heaven’s hope for a heavy heart.

Redeemer from ritualism, Real Resort.

Infant, now Immanuel, ideals to impart.

Savior for sinner’s shame sent;

Taking trouble’s tyrant to task.

Master of mere mortals, magnificent,

And Answer to all who truly ask.

Serve this Savior, this Sacred Season.
