“Train up a child in the way he should go: &

when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

“To retain the grace of God is much more important than to obtain it.”

– Adam Clarke

Home schoolers make decisions about what their child learns. Don’t allow the secular world to overly overshadow that. There’s too much emphasis laid on ‘a’ or ‘b’ in state (& some christian) schools. Make your curriculum (‘the nuts & bolts’) a deep matter of prayer. Also seek the Lord as to how big the ‘nuts & bolts’ should be, AND of what materials. These are YOUR children (Mar 12.17) not the state’s (& frankly, not your parent’s or sibling’s either). If you are not in position to hear from God, I beg of you Get There. Few people need God’s clear direction more than home schooling dads/moms. -10/4/19

The world by wisdom knew not God…is demonstrated by the writings of the most learned & intelligent heathens…Moses alone…gives a consistent & rational account of the creation.”

Like seed

Every farmer and his wife know

What you plant now is what you grow.

What goes in, is what comes out.

Like seed – like plant, without a doubt.

What got planted? Harvest will show!

“…She read her Bible at her study table by 7 o’clock in the summer

& 8 o’clock in the winter…”

said of Frances R. Havergal

Perchance, a friend or so may’ve thought that eab posts, to be controversial. Rather, I post to awaken, to prod toward Eternal life, to make hungry for God’s “love, joy, peace…” But sleepy people, sleepy pastors, sleepy churches often want to be left alone & when a poor bloke tries to awaken them – he’s consider “controversial.” – 10/7/19

Joh 20.31

“…That ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God;

& that believing ye might have life through his name.”

When you’re persuaded that only those in your group will be in heaven you’ve adopted a Cult mentality. When you’re convinced all will go to heaven you’ve accepted Universalism. Both are extremes; both are deadly; both are false. “…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ & thou shalt be saved…”(Act 16.31). -10/11/19

What happened to our schools? #8

Third McGuffey Reader (4th – 5th grade, Rev.,1920) had these Christian words:

Glorious One (p. 126)   God, 23 times (pp. 12, 51, 65, 66, 67, 74, 75, 76, 89, 126, 133, 145, 171, 199, 203)

Heaven, 2 times (pp. 75, 90)    Example:

“They went with him to church & while he said his prayers & sang his hymn in it, they sat in the trees, & sang their praises to the same God…them as he does for us.” (Lesson VXI, “Bird Friends” – adapted fr. Elihu Burritt)

“What Moses could not show, what the thunderings of Sinai could not reveal…

Jesus revealed. He came to show us the Father.”

– S D Herron, sermon (uncertain date)

He came before, as promised of old.

Christ came before as prophets had told.

He came, knowing He would be “sold”

But He came to break sin’s hold!

He’ll come again as a King, bold.

Christ will come from streets of gold.

He’ll come again His faithful to enfold.

Oh, be hot, my Friend, not warm or cold.

His coming may not your chart uphold.

Christ’s coming may not fit our small mold.

His return may not be (as thought) “two-fold”

But He comes Friend. Be ready to behold.

Read the Book; make it your stronghold.

Do not this poor prophecy rhyme scold.

Reading helps to remove the blindfold.

Some charts border on the over-bold.

Heb 2.12

“I will declare thy name unto my brethren,

in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.”

Many, thank the Lord, have read their Bibles through. Have you read your hymnal through? It’s not on the same level, of course, never has been nor will be but many Hymns (exalting Him) were inspired by God & written “between a rock & a hard place.” Not as many (IMO) Gospels Songs (more testimonial) were equally inspired but without doubt some were. Reading your hymnal would be much better than most, if not all, fiction even that dubbed “christian fiction.” Think about it.

“Earthly goods are given to be used

not to be collected.”

– Dietrich Bonoeffer, /Cost…Discipleship/

1.) Memorize Scripture. 2.) Memorize the reference for that wonderful Truth. Both 1. & 2. are good disciplines for your mind. Of course, I’m not just concerned about your mind, tho I do wish you mental health. If the day comes, Heaven forbid, you have no Bible or if a day arrives when you’re eyes make it difficult to read, Verses of the Bible you have “on file” (in your brain) could be a great comforts to you.

What happened to our schools? #2   >> 2nd in a new series <<

Second McGuffey Reader (3rd grade, Rev.,1920) had these Christian words:

Angels (p. 44)

God, 6 times (pp. 34, 87, 119, 122, 130)   Example:

“Every night he prayed God to bless them, and to bring back their father in safely.”

(Lesson LVI, “A Good Old Man” – no author sited)

“I still believe men are lost! I am afraid of this age of indifference!

— Oh, I am afraid of being lost!”

– U E Harding, “Watch! Watch!”

Where are you going after you die?

Will you have a sweet or bitter “Bye-n-Bye”?

There be no liars in heaven fair

No pride nor carnal anger up there.

So – – – where you go’ng when you die?

– eab, 2/4/19

1Jo 1.9

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful & just to forgive us our sins,

& to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

The moment is rare when a man for the sake of his never dying soul, will make a brutally-honest public confession that he was wrong. Not just on one count but on two. When such a man has been a leader the possibility of him clearing his conscience gets slimmer. It would be wonderful if such a confession took place this spring.

“A revival spirit & an unforgiving spirit can not more dwell together in the same heart than fire & water can unite.”

– M W Knapp, /Revival Kindlings/

Sadly, satan has commandeered some “…science falsely so called”(1Ti 6.20). Certain guys, with straight faces, tell you “Earth is an insignificant planet in a vast universe” – shortened version of what they spout. First, the Bible nowhere calls earth a “planet” (word doesn’t occur in Bible in singular & its one plural usage is connected to false religion). Second, earth is the most, /repeat/, most significant place any living man knows & as for the dead, earth is where they settled for Heaven or hell. Insignificant? I don’t think so!

THE BIBLE – Deu 11.19-20 “…ye shall teach them [God’s words] your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, & when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, & when thou risest up. And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house and upon thy gates:”

adaptation iN too MANY “christian” homes.

…ye shall teach them [baseball scores]…speaking of them [football games] when thou sittest in thine house… & shalt write them [basketball team names] upon the door posts [license plates of thine car]…

“Pride – spending money that’s not yours, to buy things you don’t need,

to impress people you don’t like.”

– D. R. Matherly, sermon

Some people with an addiction don’t like to be reminded that they /have to have/ “x” & they may try to compare it with a normal need to eat or drink water. God made us to require (& to enjoy) food & H2O.   But when you or I  HAVE. To. HAVE. “x” by a certain time or we get headaches, we’re mighty close to (if not tumbled completely over into) an addiction. Amen?  Ouch?

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…”

Over the face of earth Paul (St. Paul, if you must) is admired. Allow me to encourage you via his life. He grew. He grew up in Christ, “…When I became a man I put away childish things” (1Co 13.11). Friend, if something childish remains in your daily routine, there’s hope. You can rid it out of your life, out of your desires. He also said, “…I have learned…to be content (Php 4.11). Learned suggests a process. If you’re not as content as you should be, join Bro Paul & begin the journey toward the destination of contentment.

Some women absolutely refuse to “look like grandmother” & some men do not want their wife to appear THAT modest, but deep inside these people are glad to see someone willing to portray what a holy, modesty lady is like in dresses & with long hair.

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

If you were the devil would you leave Home Schooling alone? Of course not. Home schooling parents have the greatest possible avenues toward holy influence. But a hasty decision about text materials, careless associations with other home schoolers who aren’t strongly interested in heaven, an over emphasis on the same subjects the state school is pushing, can do great damage to this golden opportunity. Don’t muff it.

“…If I  [Jesus Christ speaking] be lifted up…” (Joh 12.32) – Is Christ lifted up by our conversations?  By our clothing?  Is He lifted up by our cultural involvement?  By our financial commitments?

If all you have is a single tree

Beneath which to sit or stand,

And all beyond is a

Nondescript, ordinary land.

No mountain draws you eye

To its upward soaring crest,

No river rolls at your feet

Churning at a river’s best.

And you don’t even have a hill

On which to contemplate.

Your world seems so “samish”

Nothing your quick mind to bait;

Thank God each day

For His warm rising sun,

For its slipping upward, then

Downward till it’s day is fully run.

And enjoy its change of shadow,

First great then lessening through noon,

Then an opposite shadow grows,

Filling space slowly or soon.

The daily sun gives the plain,

The simple landscape, though flat,

A lustrous changing, almost living.

Friend, enjoy where ever you’re “at.”

– eab, 5/3/07

Jas 2.19

“Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”

You don’t feel at home in this world? That’s encouraging. Please though, for your soul’s sake, do not read that as a sure sign you’re a Christian. Many a level-headed, non-faddish sinner is “put out” with this or that aspect of a world headed to perdition. (What un-awakened sinners don’t see but saints do, is that all sin connects back to satan.) No thinking Christian is more “at-home” on earth than he was a year ago.

– eab, 5/2/18

[Its] almost impossible to get Christians to attend a service where God is the only attraction.”

– A W Tozer

Read the prophetic Books/Book sections (OT & NT) & ask the Author to help you understand what He wants/needs you to understand *today*. (Your understanding may well be deeper a year later.) Flee, however, whole-sale acceptance of any man’s “prophecy charts.” In the process, be much more in love with the Christ of Prophecy than with prophecy itself.
